So, back vaguely on-topic...
MAGIC's pre-event press conference is tomorrow, with some loose possibility of something from Shenmue III being shown (new screens most likely). At the very least we should have an idea of the schedule of the event itself, and if Yu is doing a panel at MAGIC or not.
I'm kind of excited, how about you lot?
At MAGIC itself or the press conference tomorrow?
No, it definitely wasn't done.I'm curious about Shenhua's house. The way they showed it off as a center point two years ago, it certainly looked nice, but was it meant to suggest it was essentially done? Two years is a long time, is it likely that environment has been altered significantly?
Well that's exciting. If it's anything like the early Dreamcast footage to the final product, there could be a lot to look forward to, visually. No, it definitely wasn't done.
It looked ahead of everything by comparison mainly because of prominence in early story/gameplay, but also because the location existed in Shenmue II so there was a template of what it should look like to work from. Everything else was done from scratch, and has been iterated on quite a lot since our first really early looks.
At that point of development the prototype had only just gotten rolling, so who knows what changes have been made since. The foliage density alone in Bailu has seen a pretty significant boost from that early build.
My optimism for Shenmue at Monaco is being a bit dampened by Deep Silver, and I don't know if it's justified.
It's like 2 years ago, there was a great feeling, and excitement about what we could see. But now with Deep Silver involved, I feel like chains have been put on what can possibly be shown. It's lost that intimacy feeling 2016 had.
As others here said I don't mind anything that is shown for Shenmue 3 it isn't in the slightest anything bad because in the end: at least it's happening. That's very true guys. Perhaps it's been the amount of bad negativity met with the majority of the updates that has took my happiness and replaced it with trepidations and nerves.
I've loved every update. I am firmly a guy who thanks everyday since the Kickstarter in 2015, for this game to simply exist. Nothing I have seen looked bad, on the contrary, it looked like Shenmue. Felt like Shenmue. The development feels like a Shenmue games development. I know I will love this game, despite it being, looking and feeling possibly different. But I accept that's because it's new tech, and not a Dreamcast game.
I should have went completely dark to enjoy the journey more.
I look forward to new media/information about the game all the time but... yeah, there's always a comedown when you see the threads about it on here turn to bloodbaths regularly because of malicious shitposting and pretty overt trolling attempts.
I'd be very happy watching development progress if I just existed in a vacuum away from that crap; which is why I peaced out on GAF after the Gamescom threads got really shitty, and kind of why I was reluctant to join up here too.
There's value in fighting back against the shitposts though, just like there's value in Shenmue III. A lot of critics fall back on hyperbole and ignorance about the development to fuel their arguments, but ultimately they just don't see what we see in Shenmue III. It's always going to be a matter of taste, so it's up to us to present the other side.
There's always going to be those negative people, because it seems it's much easier to troll and hate on something, than it is to actually formulate a real opinion on something. Plus people are far to quick to jump the gun on certain things.
I also feel people tend to notice the negative comments more than the positive ones. We should be focusing on the people who actually had a real thought about the game. There were plenty of positive comments about Shenmue III too.
I'll remember this. I don't even enter Shenmue threads anymore :(There's value in fighting back against the shitposts though, just like there's value in Shenmue III.

I don't mind honest opinions. What I can't stand are the people who say the games were never good or that the third game is a scam.I look forward to new media/information about the game all the time but... yeah, there's always a comedown when you see the threads about it on here turn to bloodbaths regularly because of malicious shitposting and pretty overt trolling attempts.

Wow. The new screen showing off the updated models is really great.
Recently, I've been trying to visualize the controls for Shenmue 3 and how the original controls could be translated with modern sensibilities. It's clear by the new environmental screens that there will be plenty of storefronts to peruse. A large part of what made Shenmue interesting to me was the way it utilized old fashioned detective work. Hitting the streets, jotting down notes while searching for the next local to further your investigation. The games controls reflect this investigation mentality. One trigger is used to move in a fixed direction like a auto-pilot leaving the analog stick available to move Ryo's head around a visual cone and craning his neck to inspect the buildings, signs and passerby's. While the other trigger is used as a "focus" both as a zoom that seamlessly transitions to a first person viewpoint and a lock-on to prompt deeper interaction with people and objects. If these camera controls were replaced in favor of a full 360 degree camera I think it would lose the feeling of a first hand account. The perception of seeing what your character does in relation to their surroundings disappears in favor of a more omnipotent ability to see all around yourself and lessening the sense of being an eye witness. It seems like a small detail but with Shenmue being as entrenched in immersion as it is, this would likely break it.
What do all of you think?
