Wow. Never played any of his games before, but I was looking forward to Detroit. I don't feel comfortable supporting it anymore, so I guess I'll have to pass on it.

Being french myself, what the fuck??
Sorry, it was a bit tactless. What I meant was that in the French media I've consumed, there tends to be certain preoccupation with female bodies. Not negative, mind you, in a direct sense - rather that they're some kind of mystical creatures that are to be revered, which acts as an "othering" trope. Blue Is The Warmest Colour comes to mind, as well as some Luc Besson movies. A poor frame of reference, admittedly.
Perhaps it's just me having internalized the stereotype that the French are womanizers, which, well - isn't there some measure of truth in all stereotypes? Hah.

Jeez, the Super Best Friends are going to have a field day with this info during the Detroit playthrough. None of his quotes surprise me for some reason.

"Leadership without vision." That's something I've thought about all of Cage's work, glad someone on the team thought so too.

I remember we've been hating on David Cage for a long time. But this is the first time I see why. Nasty stuff.

I am curious how that will affect the game in France if the story goes "national" (I have me doubts) sales wise but also regarding some events like French's big video games awards ceremony, the "Ping Awards" (I guess this year it will be between Detroit & Vampyr as "which one is the big French game of the year???????"). I will definitely keep an eye on it when the time comes (also, will they continue receiving Governmental help for their future projects and investments?).

Worldwide, it will really depend on how SONY reacts and deal with the game as of now. It is still a 30 millions $ investment for them.

I am also very curious if SONY will continue their collaboration with Quantic Dream. In a way, I am very curious about SONY's next moves.

Some employees denounced racist or homophobic jokes inside the teams or even inside the top management. One of them describes a scene where, after watching a video of a recorded robbery, David Cage jokingly asked an employee from Tunisia "Is this a cousin of yours?". David Cage responded "You want to talk homophobia? We work with Ellen Page who is fighting for LGBT rights. You want to talk racism? We are working with Jesse Williams on civil rights in the USA. Judge my work."

Fuckin' hell.

Considering how he writes minority & female characters in his games, I am not shocked about any of this kind of shit that goes on in his studio.

Christ. I imagine at the very least Sony delays Detroit given the prior domestic abuse controversy. Hopefully not outright cancels it.

Will be interesting to see if Cage and Quantic Dream survive.

nothing will happen to the game, BUT i expect this news to have a big effect on how the game is received when it's released.

A QD employee calls the reports a bunch of lies:

I imagine anyone wiho as this time is employed at QD either has no real problem with what's going on there or at least wouldn't want to publicly perform career suicide on Twitter, so these kind of statements right now don't really amount to much either way?

They won't cancel or probably even delay this game.

I've not followed Detroid that closely, but has it even gotten a closer release date beyong "sometime during 2018"?

Well that explains why their games are so awful and bizarrely tone deaf.

I'm not even remotely surprised by these revelations. Feel sorry for the people working there though.

lol come on, they're not going to cancel a game that's been worked on for the entire generation.

I agree it's not likely, I just think in the current climate, any perception that you're complicit with these types of behaviours or environments has serious implications. There's already examples of full movies being shelved immediately prior to release because of the behaviour of its star.

Spring 2018. We probably won't get a firm release date until we know when Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out, I guess

Oh, right. Now that you say it, I recall thinking that surely there will be yet another delay or they'd have shown something (anything) remotely new a few weeks ago instead of that hostage thing yet again.

David Cage seems like a bad dude who makes bad games.

Lol @"judge my work"
Who in their right mind wants to be judged on the merits of "Beyond Two Souls"?

Detroit looks neat though, I have some hope it'll be better but hearing stuff like this sucks.

Seems par for the course for most game companies. People think the movie biz is bad...

Yeah lets cancel a game that costed millions of €, because some (ex-) employees complained about their management... (And yeah Cage is an idiot)

If the game doesn't sell, probably several dozens of employees will lose their job, not Cage or the other Managers.

I'll buy the game if it's good, won't if it's bad.

The (ex-) employees should sue their management, that's the only thing that will help them on the long term. Not the SJW.

This is completely unsurprising. It is David Cage. The man thinks he is Kojima even though he has been beat in his own genre numerous times. His massive ego was always in plain view whenever he opened his mouth for interviews.

The mandatory female shower scenes and the strange forced strip scene in Heavy Rain made his views on women obvious. I wonder if Sony will get him to remove the inevitable shower scene and other Cage fetishes in Detroit because of this controversy.

It's tough to evaluate if a company really has bad/toxic working conditions or not because there are people out there that will complain about anything. The last 3 companies I've worked for have abysmal employee reviews on glass-door. There's former employees saying really dramatic things like "this place sucks your soul away" or "management will screw you over" - but I mean I work in the same company and in the same department and it's fine, my soul isn't being sucked away, haven't really been screwed over yet.... it's a decent job, not the best obviously, we all have ambitions to move on to something better, but bottom-line is that its not THAT terrible.

On the other hand there's people that are singled-out behind the scenes, it's possible my managers have been screwing people over without me noticing. I'm not omnipresent and can't know every single thing that goes on in my job.

I definitely don't think Detroit will be canceled but I also doubt they will get work after the game is out. I doubt Sony would be willing to give them another chance.

Didn't Beyond not even sell that well?

I think Beyond sold like just over a million units which may or may not have been enough to break even. Heavy Rain was far more successful, but Beyond didn't do great.

Yeah, i thought it was something like that. Not a bomb but not great.

If Detroit isn't a blockbuster hit (personally I don't think it will), I think that combined with these comments will lead to Sony dropping their contracts with them like a hot potato and turning Supermassive into their "cinematic games" studio.

Not necessarily. If this kind of stuff was rampant, presumably few or no employees would come to the studios defence on Twitter, instead they'd just stay silent. My guess is these incidents are more isolated in nature, and it's likely many of the employees coming to the studios defence simply have not experienced anything of the sort themselves, and instead find the environment positive.

Let's be honest here, if the work environment was so toxic, countless employees wouldn't have stayed there for 7 odd years or whatever, instead they'd have moved on fairly swiftly.
