Console version of Timbleweed Park sold best on switch according to the devs and they confirmed that their next game will be on 100% on switch.

I dunno if it fits in this very category but the CSI game on Wii helped me greatly over the time I was handicapped (one hand only) for several weeks.
I had lots of fun with it. shrugs*

And on that day, Nintendo kids learned what a PnC Adventure game is :V

I am interested in playing those CSI games, did any of them get PC releases too?

Not sure if anyone mentioned it here, but I've been following the development of Saint Kotar, which seems to have very good potential.

It's a 2.5D p&c adventure, classically inspired. And, by what was showed so far, it has mechanics very similar to Broken Sword. On the story side, the devs say it's close to Gabriel Knight and the original Black Mirror.

There's a playable demo coming out in April. On the same date they are going to launch a Kickstarter campaign.

Here, the two trailers they released so far.

Alright, almost done with this BOTW game and can get back to working on my Steam backlog and going through PnCs again~

Fired up Blackwell Legacy and I'm noticing something: At 3x upscaling, the game and sprites all look fine and clean, but anything higher kinda adds some lame blurring/smoothing. Gonna meddle with the settings a bit til I find a prefered visual output.
Enjoying it just as I did the first time and maybe I'll beat the 2nd game after it right away if I feel like it :P

Too bad that older Adventure Game Studio games do not updated to the latest engine version, like Cat Lady

This looks really good, and the plot sounds so awesome.

This might now be my most hyped P&C game.

Gemini Rue was updated to AGS 3.4 last year, and the Blackwell series was supposed to be updated as well. I just tweeted Dave Gilbert about whether he's still planning to release the recompiled Blackwell games.

(He hasn't been very responsive to my queries via Twitter in the past, probably because I keep asking if Da New Guys will ever be released on Steam...)

Are there any high budget point and click games in development at the moment?

Well, maybe not AAA budget..

Also The Devil's Men
https://adventuregamers.com/games/view/26593

Are you playing windowed or full screen? There must be something causing this because the game should recognize one's mouse just fine. Sometimes alt tabbing out and in fixes it.
Yeah, only alt-tabbing can help (but not always though)

I do hope we get some unexpected games in the genre this year, that questions the conventions of it a bit more, and doing that without removing puzzles alltogether.

A lot of devs doing adventure games today have of course moved the "walking sim" genre now, but as much I can appreciate the better games in that genre/subgenre, I feel that being alone at a location, with minimal interactivity, feels kinda done.

I love puzzle focused games like The Witness, and Firewatch was nice with the map/compass/radio interface, and always having a person talking to you, and have the location for that person visible, even if you don't see her.

But after playing What Remains of Edit Finch, I'm putting my foot down at buying those games, and I hope some indie/midtier devs will do something interesting with third person perspective adventures in 2018.

I'd do anything for a game like Gabriel Knight right now. Might have to quench the thirst with a 9000th playthrough.

Blackwell Unbound (Blackwell 2) down.
Enjoyed it as much as the first game but man the backgrounds are pretty simple looking XP

I feel like Wadjet Eye could've released all 5 games as a compilation release on Switch for like $40 and made some quick bucks. They should consider this after Unavowed at least (and heck have that released on Switch too).

Just finished Gemini Rue.

tumblr_m13ppux0ws1r94qrszs.gif

The controls are not that great
The story is easily predictable but still interesting.
The voice acting is decent.
The puzzles are not difficult but well sensed; i hate when it's a meaningless solution that you can only find by try-and-error.
The engine is obsolete (I played on gnu+linux). I had to text edit a config file to enable/disable full screen mode.
The pixel art is great but the resolution is too low.

It's far from being a bad game, i enjoyed playing it but it's not the awards winner that i expected.

About the story being predictable:
After you have seen such movies as Total recall or Blade Runner, you see the twists coming from far and to which kind of ending the story is going.

So I've been playing Thimbleweed Park on my PS4 the last couple of days and I'm really liking it. Are there any other modern console releases that are worth my time? I've played a few of the LucasArts remasters, which are naturally pretty good, and Deponia, which I would've liked if the main character wasn't such an unlikeable jerk.

I finished this years ago - I personally really liked it cause I loved the cyberpunk noir setting. Having said that, I did find it a little too slow paced at times, especially when you
play as the side character
. I think if I played it today it wouldn't have been as impressive.

EDIT: Bah false alarm.
Seems Blackwell 4 is just bigger in resolution than the previous games. No wonder I keep getting an error ugh, the stupid winsetup keeps showing the SAME resolution for 3x as the first games so I assumed it was gonna output the same, but turns out, 3x is bigger than my screen.

Also is Consortium considered an Adventure game?

Finished Samorost 3 - what a beautiful and whimsical little game! (as everything else from Amanita Design) Reminds me much of soviet animation.
Now waiting for Chuchel!

Did anyone else see this tweet from Wormwood Studios (creator of Primordia) about a new game called Strangeland?

https://twitter.com/WWSGames/status/947694563790950400

Also anyone hear about the new game that showed up on GOG today called The Red Strings Club. the cyberpunk vibe is obviously cool, but I never heard many positive things about the devs previous game Gods Will Be Watching.

Looks great. I still don't get why he didn't elect to make another game in the Primordia setting. I feel that a lot was still left open and the lore and the setting lent it self to more games in it. Seems a bit like a waste to me.

All 5 Blackwell games beaten.

Yeah this series deserves a spot in my '100 greatest video game series of all time' list. They're simple but overall well designed adventure games.
While we never got the conclusion to the duo's hunt of Gavin's society, I'd like for there to be a 'Gaiden game' where Joey and Durkin team up to find them and put a stop to them somehow

Is Unavowed set in the same setting as the Blackwell games? It's New York, and there seems to be some supernatural stuff going on.

Mark Yohalem has posted on a number of occasions that he's not interested in a sequel -- I'm not sure if this is the definitive statement about his decision, but it's comprehensive:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/227000/discussions/0/540744474700018769/#c540744474917108593

And for those of you who want more Primordia in novella form, Mark wrote a spinoff story entitled Fallen, available as an illustrated PDF or as an audiobook in three parts (Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3)

Is Unavowed set in the same setting as the Blackwell games? It's New York, and there seems to be some supernatural stuff going on.
Yes, they exist in the same universe, though it hasn't been revealed if there will be any cameos from Blackwell characters.

Yeah, I can definitely see the hurdles of doing it though. First they have to convince Nintendo (apparently not easy right now?), get dev kits, and then spend time porting AGS to Switch. Apparently while AGS is great for making games... that's it. Dave Gilbert has written on their blog about how much of a pain in the ass it's been bringing the games to other platforms. His wife, who co-runs/manages Wadjet Eye is split between marketing and port work. Apparently it takes roughly a year to bring one game from AGS over to iPad.

Emily Morganti does the PR stuff for Wadjet Eye, actually. Fun fact: she used to be the Marketing Coordinator for Telltale back when Telltale actually cared about point & click adventure games.

But your point is still valid -- on the design and programming fronts, Wadjet Eye really is just Dave and Janet Gilbert, so I'm assuming that Switch ports are either not going to happen or a loooong ways off, at best.

Couldnt they hire a third party like playisn games or devolver etc? Can ags titles be applied to unity?
