I have the utmost respect for Kamiya, in fact I think he's probably my favourite game director, but BRUH just let me have my Devil-May-Cry-ass Devil May Cry. I've been waiting ten years. I'm dying of thirst here. This is not the time to change up the formula.

There's also Monster Hunter World where the change between World and the previous MH game was more than the change the series went through in 14 years since its start! Yet the fans are all over it! Majority of fans wouldn't mind change long as the core of the game, what makes the fans love it, is still there!

Monster Hunter needed the shakeup in western audiences
IIRC, in Japan, where Monster Hunter actually is from, the series hasn't changed and World is more of a western audience game. They're afraid of doing the change over there.

Devil May Cry doesn't need a shake. They just need to get DMC4's audience back. That's it.

That sounded like you were asking about why Devil Trigger in DmC is a negative point than a language related clarification! Your English seem good enough!... Sorry either way.

Did you play a DMC game other than DmC?!
Yes I played 3 and 4 before DmC. I dont mean DmC is better than previous entries but it just more accessible for me, I am not skilled enough to be able change all the styles on the fly (during combo) like hardcore, which is why I always play Nero or Vergil in Blood Palaces

I don't disagree with him actually, I'd ideally like DMC V to evolve the genre as much as DMC has defined it.

Ah yes cuz a game's quality is reflected by the sales and the metacritic scores.

DmC was rubbish and it killed this series for the time being. No amount of defense force that you do in each DMC releated threads will change that.

Disaster is an understatement when it comes to DmC.
Actually it's a great game and "hardcore" Devil May Cry fans have proven themselves to be whinging children.

DMCV must have crazy action and white hair anime Dante.

You want to make it more cinematic or horror styled like DMC1 one.. connected like souls instead of missions.. fine. But gameplay and Dante must remain.

Westernizing DMC fuck that noise.

No disrespect to the guy but I have way more confidence in Itsuno than I do him, especially when it comes to DMC.

He's right that DMC5 can't just continue with what the original series was doing. Even if they added light open world elements and took the free roaming camera from DmC, there still would have a lot of work on their hands. DmC: Definitive Edition actually took the series in the right direction as it resolved most of the issues of the original game and sold pretty well. 2 million+ sales is nothing to scoff at. Instead of listening to fans who have some personal convictions about a western dev modernizing the series, they should have given Ninja Theory another shot with a sequel. They absolutely proved themselves worthy with the corrections made in Definitive Edition.

If they go the DmC route ever again the series just needs to be put to rest. If anything revive onimusha and you can pull off that shit.

... You know Japan is getting World too right?! And what does the west have to do with it, it's still a big change and most long time western and Japanese fans are ok with it?!

Point is, World changed to expand its audience, but despite the change, they captured what the fans love about the series, thus not upsetting old fans.

I'm open to any DMC5 change, long as the core combat is as good as DMC4/3. The same can be said about DmC, if the core combat was as good as DMC4, the hate from the fans would have ended once they put their hand on the demo, but the opposite of that happened because DmC problem wasn't the change, it was the quality!

How about DMCV puts the franchise back on track instead? Last time the series tried to "reinvent" itself it almost died permanently.

No no no no no, those are terrible ideas, I like my DMC just fine being 'anime' slasher, I don't need another 'realistic cinematic' snorefest.

Make new DMC by making an entirely separate genre that plays nothing similar? If he didn't want to throw shade at new GoW he didn't succeed, lol.

If the idea isn't "listen to Ninja Theory" then he's made a fundamental mistake.

With the current positive trend I am seeing with Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, Resident Evil 7(though this is technically 2017) and Monster Hunter World. Capcom does look like it's making a very strong come back this first quarter alone.

I have rising hopes that, if DMC5 is a thing, it'll have a strong showing.

I like Kamiya but he must have been out on the piss when posting these tweets. Why would I want Devil May Cry 5 - Boring Edition?

Talking about GOW, I just saw it dated for June 30th at Amazon, did we know something about this?
Edit: nah it's not even well labeled.

GOW looks terrible, and DMCV should be a game about deep gameplay that gives players tools to learn it and should have a fun protagonist like 3 and 4 had.

That said I love Kamiya.

Kamiya likes the God of War series so it makes sense he's fascinated by what they're doing with 4. Now I'm really curious to see his own spin on something like that. Obviously he's just spitballing though.

I think that would be pretty cool to see, even if I personally would rather DMC V be more faithfully than not.

I do think the series needs an overhaul in terms of level design. Give me a Dark Souls like world to explore but with the Devil May Cry signature action with more destructible environments and globs of particle effects. I'm not sure I agree with the whole third-person God of War camera for DMC, would just feel not as free in the combat department as DMC games usually are.

don't think you understand the hatred behind DmC

fans don't want DMC to change. It's deep rooted. if they try to change it, they would rather burn the series to the ground.
I think the years of terribly unfounded hate against DmC and NT are proof enough of that, yes. I just don't know why the fans feel so entitled.
'' Look at me I'm so COOL!!! I'm swearing and constnatly saying FUCK YOU and that makes me look like a total badass! You only hate me cuz I don't have WHITE HAIR!!!''

^ That's DmC summed up.

Do you not see the irony of your own posts?

There has to be some shade thrown in this.

Maybe he doesn't think Capcom can pull off a Devil May Cry -style game: I don't imagine Kamiya suggested a 'God of War'-like revision for Bayonetta 3.

Then again, Bayonetta only had 2 games so far (since 2009), against 5 DMC games (since 2001). Maybe that's why he thinks it could use a shake up.

I don't think this is shade being thrown at Capcom or anything like that. I think this is just about the way Kamiya develops games. Apart from his directorial debut (Resident Evil 2), all of the games he has directed have been original IPs. If there is a new Devil May Cry game, I imagine he'd at least want to see a new take on the series (DmC excluded).

Kamiya is my favourite dev, but the way he praises what GoW is doing makes me worried.
Maybe the scalebound cancelation will have an effect on how he design his games since he likes GoW chasing modern trends over the classic Hack and slash gameplay =/.

I think the years of terribly unfounded hate against DmC and NT are proof enough of that, yes. I just don't know why the fans feel so entitled.

I really dont see it as entitled (even if I liked DMC for what it was), Capcom can do what they want with the IP, but fans can also dislike their new direction and not buy it.
