It'll be interesting to hear their reactions to the Direct. Normally I'm sure they'd go nuts for Tropical Freeze, Dark Souls and TWEWY remasters but the expectations were so absurdly high from a lot of Nintendo fans, I can't imagine they're happy with it.

My expectations were high and then went down when I saw "Mini" so the actual content of the Direct satisfied me.

Having said all that, I wholeheartedly agreed with their 2016 GOTY. So, I guess I can't win every year. Just like Ian.

It has nothing to do withn being Nintendo fans. Zelda is the best game that came out this year, and is one of the best games we have ever gotten. And that's not just eza it has 97 on mc and will probably be most gotys. Next game in line is Mario.

It's just and indication of how good a year Nintendo has had in quality games. And no one else in the industry came close.

Imo only 3 games worth discuss are pretty, Mario and Zelda. And maybe Yakuza for the story.

This. I thought just GOTY is going to be deliberated and the other categories will be decided and just revealed on stream. However the more they talk about it the less I am sure about that and it seems they will deliberate on other categories as well, but they would up spending 5 hours on just the other categories before they even got to GOTY if that was the case.

They are starting at 5 pacific time and recording the podcast prior to the deliberations so maybe they are going to go 7 or 8 hours on this?

Yeah, they have other categories lined up. They said they'll try and differentiate them from normal awards, & then they'll debate GOTY. Seems like it's going to be a long stream.

I'd think that Friend Code will cover the Mini next week as well. Speaking of the bi-weeklies, I enjoyed the Steamworld discussion on Frame Trap. I played the 3 games for the first time this year and loved them all. I'm hoping for a Steamworld Heist 2 announcement soon but anything from Image & Form is now an insta-buy for me.

We all know Zelda and Mario will be #1 and #2, which yeah it makes it boring but its better to be able to hear the discussion than getting a 5 minute video of the chosen game, either way this years goty will be wayyyy better than the Last guardian.

Hopefully they try to make a top 5 and not just choose the best game...

Huber said it was his GOTY, I think Ben and Brad could be right there with him. and then I think a few of the other allies will have it at least in their top 5 (Jones, Damiani, and Blood?)
it's a 3 way race.
like if they just do a vote with a regular point system (5 for first, 4 for second, etc) it'd end up being close. if they did a weighted point system where #1 was worth a little more (something like 10 for first, 7 for second, 5 for third, 3 for fourth, 1 for fifth) it could be real real close

The funny thing is, BotW is my GOTY, but I'm excited to see opposing opinions. So there's definitely no bias on my part when I say Persona 5 has a chance. More than anything I just hope there are well made and articulated arguments for and against the nominees.

My GOTY last year won at EZA, so I can't really be mad. Just gonna be sad we won't hear NieR Automata talk besides OST.

It's gonna really fun to watch though, really hope some underdog sneaks in to number 1, but thats a pipe dream.

I never really care about GOTYs to be honest, but especially in a year like this that's packed with great games it's just not particularly interesting to me. I guess that's just me though.

I am surprised at how unimpressed the Allies seem to be with Automata. Ben is very high on it but Kyle dropped it (I think), Ian said it was overrated because someone made him expect too much, Huber said he started it and I don't think we've heard anything since so...

EDIT: My GOTY (and game of all time tbh) is Persona 5. Nier Automata, BotW and Odyssey are all in my Top 10 games of all time...any of these games could win and I'd be happy. The only game that I feel will get robbed as far as general awards go is Tales of Berseria and that's unfortunate.

Yeah, Huber has made it seem like that's a game he's going to knock out early this year due to not having enough time to play/finish it the last few months.

It's a shame it might not have a strong showing, besides maybe Ben pushing it for OST. Finished it a week or so ago & was floored by it. It's my number 2 when I finally post my list in the GOTY thread.

I'd bet on Mario or Zelda, but am super interested to hear arguments for Persona. I'd personally put it above the other two games. Tight race though - all three are knockouts.

Frankly I disagree. I wouldn't even put it in my top 3 Zeldas personally. But that is me personally. I thought the dungeons and bosses were some of the worst in the series
