Very grateful for the game soundtrack talk on this week's Frame Trap. So few gaming podcasts ever talk about the music in games and this year was a particularly good year for it.

Blood, I'd be curious to hear your take on the FF14 Eorzean Symphony album that came out last month:

It acts as a kind of "greatest hits" for the amazing FF14 soundtrack, though it doesn't include anything from Stormblood. I've been really enjoying it over the past few weeks.

Wait, so some people didn't love the group stream last night? I haven't had that much fun since the Pokemon Snap stream. I kinda loved the chaos of it all. And who knew rock-paper-scissors could be so compelling?

I liked it but it was too messy to be a classic group stream. I was also disappointed they never actually ended up playing SFV because, as someone who doesn't play SF, I was interested in seeing how that game looks these days.

I enjoyed the rock paper scissors part. However I was really looking forward to 3 of the top 4, and they didn't end up playing any of them.
And then they were gonna go through multiple Mario games, which sounded promising, but ended up just doing the most boring Mario game.

It was the final push I needed to go back to the $1 tier.

As much as I will be looking forward to the goty discussions I'm expecting zelda to win which is pretty boring.

Playing through it now and while it's a great game and does a lot of things fantastically, I don't think it deserves the almost unanimous votes for goty.

I personally preferred Horizon over zelda, fighting was more fun, looks better, world felt fuller for me even if it was much smaller, story and characters are obviously much better etc.

Just kind of feels that zelda is getting hyped up beyond its actual quality simply for being a great game on a new and thankfully successful Nintendo system and being one of Nintendos two tent pole series that always get 10's simply for being them and only releasing new entries every few years.

Haven't played odyssey yet though so can't comment on that.

I agree, If Nintendo had disguised Zelda as a new IP from Activision called the Legend of Belda starring Plink nobody would have paid the slightest bit of attention beyond asking why it looked like a game from 2012.

Beyond disappointed but not surprised and do feel bad for the devs of all the other far more impressive games of the year that deserved the accolade.

I haven't played BOTW since I don't own a Switch, but I don't see anything wrong with it winning GOTYs either. Last years EZA GOTY wasn't worth that title either in my opinion, but I understand that people can have different opinions about videogames (well, about everything really), so it is possible they love something I don't like. I am not going to say they are wrong for picking it, it is their decission and they clearly loved Zelda, so yeah, there is a good chance of it winning EZA GOTYs. I wouldn't have a problem if that's the case.

You are correct that there are plenty of other good games this year that deserve the GOTY title, but with a year like this, some games are bound to be out of luck.

It's kinda like Kyle and Ian said in the Easy Update: the GOTYs will be boring because everyone knows it will be Zelda (or mayyyyyyybe Mario but I doubt it). This is why I wish they had the debates on video, the actual discussion about it is far more interesting than the awards themselves.

That's really cool. I think he said in a stream that Future Trunks is his favorite character so he's definitely gonna enjoy this! I can't wait for him to be caught up though. It'd be cool if he, Kyle and Brad started a small weekly podcast to discuss the latest episode. (I'd take even a 10-15 minute stream where they talk using Google Hangouts).

In other news, I just got around to watching this week's Frame Trap. Really great episode. Loved all of the discussion about the soundtracks in particular, but there were a lot of other great discussions, too.

It's better they hold on doing SFV until Arcade Edition comes out.

Will it though? I know it's a tired meme, but this year it really rings true that EZA is a very Nintendo-biased group. I never used to skip through their videos, but there's only so much Zelda talk I can take. If I have to hear "hang glider" one more time... Well we know for sure that both Huber and Ben liked Persona 5 more than Zelda. Huber has flat out said that it's his GOTY several times already. I expect them both to fight for it, and Brad and Ian have said that they wouldn't mind if it won. They will be debating all categories, not just GOTY. Even if they do end up picking BotW, I think the process of picking the top 10 will still be intense and interesting. I'm personally looking forward to it, and I don't think BotW winning is as much of a guarantee as some think. Either way, I hope they fight for whichever games they truly believe in instead of trying to put on an 'interesting' show and going against the grain. That would be a disservice to themselves, and I personally watch them to see them being honest and passionate about their opinions.

And... I don't think PUBG will be #3. I will be surprised if it's in the top 5, honestly. I haven't heard anything from them to suggest that any of them feel passionately about it. I think the top 3 will be BotW, Mario and Persona 5, not in that order necessarily. But I think it'll be those three fighting for the GOTY and top 3 positions.

They did because they didn't debate GOTY live. Now that they are, there's no need for a video.
