It's a turn-based action RPG / dungeon crawler that can be described as "H.P. Lovecraft: The Game". Also, it's extremely difficult. Also, it's got the best narration ever in a videogame.

that sounds great

looks like Giant Bomb has a long quick look for it, I'll check that out later today

for those that want to see it

Recap of me playing Darkest Dungeon:

"Hey, I'm doing pretty well!"
"Small downside, but I can recover"
"OH GOD EVERYONE'S DEAD!"

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really giving the devs any grief. Some included DLC would have been nice, but I'm in no way annoyed or frustrated at them for not including any.
I also think i need to find a better way to separate my discussion about general overall feelings on things, which is what I thought you were referring too, that people in general want more, and I need to make sure I don't sound like I am poking the person who brought it up.

Nah man, it's all good. You brought up a good point.

I may buy just the main game now and DLC packs later.

If the price is same as Steam version. €23 is tolerable.

Wonderful game. Started playing it last week on PS4. I've got the Steam version, and Vita version as well.

I probably have no reason to buy Switch version, but, it's good to have options.

I already have the PS4 version but I would've jumped in at $25 if all content was included. I'm surprised they're charging for the DLC. Usually late ports have the DLC included. For perspective, the Crimson Edition (game + expansion) is currently $12 on PS4.

Right and in four months I'd expect this version to be on sale too. And not need PS+ to get that price.

Yes. $12 in a sale, for a game that launched in 2016 on PS4. People comparing launch prices of new releases on Switch to lowest sale prices of years old games on other platforms is one of the most baffling things I've seen.

Wherever
I wish the DLC was included at the base price (like quite a few other Nindies) but will still be purchasing the game itself immediately upon release :)

I mean, Crimson Edition (base game + Crimson DLC) is $30 on PSN without the sale - vs $35 on Switch, so there is that. I'm not accusing developers of anything, in fact I believe it's much wiser to have bigger starting price that you could gradually reduce with sales and discounts.

But there is nothing surprising or baffling about people comparing prices between competing platforms or arguing that current price point is too much for double- or triple-dipping.

Waited for the Switch version, now waiting for a sale. My resolution to spend way less money on games this year, can't be broken that early, haha.

As much as I'd like to have it on Switch, I recently got the newest iPad Pro for Christmas. It's $5 on there. I can't overlook that.

Hmm, it's $25 digital right? I think with DLC I would have been tempted, but I don't think I can justify ~$40 for all of it considering the other platforms. I do want it eventually on my Switch though.

As someone who was super eager to try out Darkest Dungeon for the first time on Switch, I'm fine with the price point, but the DLC not being included in the base game will probably make me wait for a sale. I was pretty miffed when Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 pulled a similar stunt.

If people own multiple platforms they have the right to be picky when it comes to game prices, no? Especially if a person is going to double dip. If a game is frequently on sale on certain platforms I don't think it's baffling at all that people have a bit of sticker shock when they see that same game at higher prices (relative to sales) on another platform. For me, the reason I won't be double dipping is because the DLC is still being sold separately on a year+ old port. Maybe I've been spoiled but usually when this happens the DLC is included.

I'm seriously not trying to thread derail or anything, as I love the Switch and think Darkest Dungeon is an awesome game. But, this game is $5 on iPad...like, always, not a sale thing. This price difference is huge even when factoring in the Switch Tax.

EDIT: I get what everyone is saying about it being a different market, but I think the amount of crossover between the two install bases (iOS and Switch, that is) is probably greater than you think. Hey, I already own the game, anyway, and I think it's great. I just want to see Switch versions of games have success, and this price seems prohibitive in that regard.

I think the platform, iOS, kinda sets the price point in a way. Only Square Enix can get away with their overpriced versions(in comparison to other games). When you take into account that the most popular games on iOS are FREE. Devs are kinda hamstrung on what they can charge for a complete game. They either "overprice" for the market and get less sales, or go with the average price point and try to make their money. The app store set the tone for mobile purchases and most people aren't willing to spend over a certain amount because of that. Unfortunately for traditional game devs the price point is between free and like $10 tops.

Honestly, if the base game is 25€, it is a bit too much compared to Sony machines' version. But, due to the quality of the game (and its length), for a first timer, it's cheap. I will wait for the rumored physical version but it's a really good addition to the Switch's catalogue.

This is the reason I stopped my PS4 playthrough, I'll pick it up again soon. Hopefully it is a good port.

Ok. I've been holding off on this for awhile, waiting for the switch version.

I've never played this game but heard so So SOOO much about it.

Now that the dust has settled, and patches have been deployed, can anyone detail the two DLC's and the vanilla package?

Do the DLC's break the early game or anything?
I'd like to buy everything to get access to everything, but I want an expert opinion before dropping 40 bucks for an indie game.

Thanks.

I played it a little on the vita but the controls were awful. Since this will have touch controls I'll double dip.

I will miss trophies though they were a nice thing to work towards.
