Picked up the 65" based on the thread from the other place and I love it. My only real complaint is that the remote can't quite sync with my decade old Onkyo receiver. I have to go through the pairing wizard or else it won't control the volume. My setup has been pared down to just the TV, the receiver, and a PS4. I'm stuck using my decade old Logitech Harmony which is almost fine except it can't access some of the functions in streaming apps. Can't go "back" in HBO NOW for example.

Otherwise, HDR was a pretty eye opening discovery. I had the PS4 passing through the receiver for a while and didn't bother turning HDR on or off when playing games. When I hooked the PS4 up to the TV directly it automatically turned on HDR, and I was pretty impressed!
I bought a different remote as I'm not a fan of the base model.

I had a different HD TV from Samsung before and had it a few months after I bought the new model. The remote from the old model worked flawless with the new model, therefore I purchased that remote again.

Not really that expensive, was like 10€ or so.

I would really like some setting suggestions/advice for those of you who use the PS4 Pro to watch movies/tv-shows through Netflix.

My settings is currently on Natural. I have tried Movie mode for a long time, but I like the vibrant colors Natural gives more.

Settings I usually use for HDR/4K and 1080p content is:

Backlight: 20
Brightness: 45
Contrast: 100
Sharpness: 20
Colors: 50

Digital Clean View: On
Motion Plus: Either off or Blur 1/Judder 1
Smart Led: Low
Dynamic Contrast: Switch between Off and Low depending on content
Color Tone: Warm 1

I am usually happy with these settings, and I have less grain/noise issues now than when I first bought the TV. Still some shows like the Marvel Netflix shows looks absolutely horrendous on this TV.

I want a new remote as well. I might get the one that came with the Q7F and up models. Though I also had an older Samsung remotr that worked well.

Only thing I dislike about Tizen is the lack of utility and how I can't disable certain apps. I also wish they would update Tizen to the 2017 or soon to be 2018 versions. The hardware remains relatively unchanged and should handle it with ease.

Has anyone with this TV been able to get HDR to work with the Apple TV 4K? I have to view everything in SDR mode because HDR looks horribly dim. I've seen other people have this problem but have yet to find a solution.
Works fine for me. Might be a cable issue. Or a settings issue on your end with either the TV or the Apple TV video settings.

I stopped right away the Digital Clean View and Motion Plus which is absolutely horrible and creates a lot of judder. I think those are to be used with TV sources only (like sport mode). My sharpness is set to 0 and depending on source material I move contrast between 85 to 95. rest is the same as yours.

What TVs did Samsung announce for htis CES? I couldn't find any info.

They didn't announce their lineup, they talked about their tech and software.

Mainly, the QLED line will support variable refresh rate. Although HDMI 2.1 certification isn't ready, so it will be some half-step implementation and not the actual standard. Also, an "Internet of Things" platform to control your home lighting and appliances from your television, simplified device setup, that kind of thing.

If HDMI 2.1 isn't ready for this year then when will it be ready ? The XB O X supports HDM 2.1 but it seems XB Next will be out before such TVs will get released.

Q: What is the testing policy for HDMI 2.1 products?
A: All products must comply with Version 2.1 of the HDMI Specification and the HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification (CTS); and until the CTS is available and a product has passed compliance testing a product cannot claim to be 2.1 compliant or market that it supports 2.1 features.

Q: When will the HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification be available?
A: The HDMI 2.1 Compliance Test Specification (CTS) will be published in stages during Q1-Q3 2018.

I really don't know the technical details on whether or not current TVs and devices can meet compliance and be updated to support HDMI 2.1 standards, including Xbox.

I would think support for HDMI 2.1 features, namely variable refresh rate, would only come with any meaningful support on the next round of consoles.

Honestly, you're better off investing in an Apple TV or Shield TV. Those built-in apps are just not worth the bother, especially because they're combined with those slow TV CPU's that just aren't good enough to do things properly.

Agreed 100%. It's only going to become more obvious as streaming content improves support for better audio formats. The TV is restricted to ancient TOSLink specification bandwidth and formats for audio, via both the optical out or HDMI ARC. If you have a decent receiver and speakers it makes more sense to output audio with the full array of HDMI options at your disposal.

I would agree except in some cases the built-in apps are the only good way to get full HDR support (i.e. Youtube HDR).

Played a bit more with Dynamic Contrast for HDR before settling in to enjoy Dredd on 4K BD. Medium for sure blows out brights/white detail, no amount of tweaking the regular contrast setting could fix it. It does, however, reveal extra shadow detail. Low is the happy medium, but you do trade a little bit of shadow detail in order to save a lot of bright detail.

Subjectively, Low and Off look best to me. Off completely kills a huge amount of shadow detail, but the picture looks great: brights still pop, while the image remains pleasantly subtle. Low exposes extra detail nicely, but Medium makes colours far too saturated.

My question is whether or not I'm intended to see all the shadow detail. Like how on test images there are bars you're supposed to use to adjust your settings until they're invisible? Forgetting the Netflix HDR/DC argument, I could absolutely believe the most accurate way to watch disc based HDR is with DC off. Until I know better though, I'm leaving DC on Low for now.

In other KS8000 news, I picked up a Samsung M9500 player over the holidays. It destroys the Xbone S I'd previously used for UHD Blu-rays, in that it actually plays them without weird hiccups. I do wish the Samsung remotes were better integrated though. As might be expected, you can't use the M9500 remote to control all functions of the TV (just Power, Volume, and Source), but the TV's remote doesn't play as nicely with the player as it does with, say, an Apple TV. You can use it for basic Play/Pause, FF, RW stuff, but for some reason it's laggy/less responsive, and requires a button push to bring up an on-screen key before the rest of the buttons work. So even without the lag, you can't use it for quick commands they way you can with an Apple TV. Not a big deal; I mention it because none of the reviews I read did. But given how capable the TV's remote is when used with other devices, it's odd that it works less well with Samsung's own BD player.

The Smart features of the player are lousy - laggy as hell. I'd hate to have to use it for apps like Netflix, and it makes me even more appreciative of the TV's slick OS. I know some people have had issues with bugs, but for my uses (Netflix, YT, and Plex) Tizen on the KS8000 has been a joy. Since I switched to Plex for media streaming, the only thing I use the Apple TV for is Shudder, and if that app comes to Tizen, I'll be able to free up an extra HDMI port should the need arise. Until then, I'll keep it connected for the gorgeous aerial screensavers. I recently had a good search in the Tizen app store, and haven't found a nice dynamic wallpaper app that I can use on the TV instead. Weird omission. If anyone knows of one, please give me a heads-up. As pretty as they are, the wallpapers on my Apple TV are only 1080p. Be sweet to have something like them in 4K to cycle on my screen when it's otherwise idle; but it's obviously not worth upgrading my ATV to the newer box just for those.

Without Digital Clean View turned on I get so much noise on many of my TV-Shows that it becomes extremely distracting. I agree Motion Plus should be turned off in most instances.

My biggest gripe now is DC off vs low. I think low generally looks better, but off is maybe the most authentic...?

I've been comparing DC off, low, med, and high on The Witcher 3. I think medium is perfect. It's a game-by-game thing. Forza Horizon 3 looks better on off or low depending on the track.

Yeah you're probably right. I used medium on Hitman which had a great color palette for bright vibrant colors. But I generally just want a fair middle ground so I don't have to fiddle with the settings every time I use the TV. I'll play around with low for a while.

Also I am actually not a huge fan of sharpness set to 0. I think you lose some details when you have it off, so I always set it to 10-20.

This is my dilemma too lol. Can't decide which one to pick! I keep telling myself I'm content with my settings, but I always end up going back in to change and test things out after a couple weeks

I accidentally sat on my remote and somehow got my source to turn into one of those channel preview boxes in the top left corner of SDTV days. It blew my mind, because it was exactly what I needed for the DBZF Beta, but I couldn't Populate the rest of the screen. For 20 minutes I played around with the TV trying to get the HDMI input to populate the entire screen like its supposed to.

I finally got out of it by hitting source - > Universal Remote. Does anyone here know how to activate the this mode, and control it. The preview box was something that I assumed died due to HDMI not supporting it.

My KS8000 just updated to 1208.2 in the UK today.

What do I need to know and what's the recommended settings for the Xbox one x and general image quality?

I've had the 75" KS8005 for about a year now and is mostly happy with it.
Never had any problems with the remote, but I had some major picture issues which resulted in a really long warranty battle with Samsung. Got it swapped on goodwill by the store in the end, and even though the replacement still has some of the same issues, it is much better.
The problem is a visible dark line on the left side that moves up and down depending on what's on screen. It was extremely visible on the first tv, to the point where you couldn't watch or play anything without constantly looking at the line jumping around.

Here's an example from Uncharted 4.
https://youtu.be/yW8XYPO4m5c

(It was a hassle to wall-mount though, we had to be three adults to make it work).
dsc_1286szsbk.jpg

A friend of mine had this problem and apparently it was the mount and the pressure near the screen. I WANT to mount this thing but that really freaks me out. Mounting it would make the entire room a lot cleaner but I don't want to fuck the screen up.

BitsBytesBobs recently made a video on his calibration settings for the 1208.2 patch. I haven't tried them myself because the patch isn't out where I live, so I have no idea how good they are going to look like. His changes are pretty radically different from what's usual so It's going to be interesting to try them out. Anyone tried these settings and do they look good?

The settings are :

Picture mode : Movie
Backlight : 20
Brightness: 44
Contrast: 100
Sharpness: 0
Color: 44

Digital Clean View: Off
Auto Motion Plus: Custom (Blur:0/Judder:0)
Smart LED: High
Dynamic Contrast : High
Color Mode: Warm2
Gamma: 0
Color Space: Auto

Well I guess I shouldn't feel as conflicted when I set DC to 'low' instead of 'off.'
Haha, same here. Everyone keeps saying that DC is the worst thing you can add to your TV, so I am always sitting there with a guilty conscience when I decide to turn it on. I used medium when I was watching Godless on Netflix because some of the scenes were so dark I could hardly see anything.

lol i read zero at times -- and i can't tell what it does. i literally go up to my tv and increase it to 100 and see no change. i feel for the switch tho it needs to be around 25 bc otherwise shit is really blurry

I found it odd at 0. I just couldn't get used to it. But yeah, i read that it "should" be at 0. But what i did is set everything at what it should be, and adjust slightly from there to my preferences.

I dont really care if its not absolutely perfect.

edit: for me i found it a bit too blurry at 0. Lines weren't as sharp.

So yesterday I used the youtube app to watch The Witcher 3 and Injustice 2 HDR Video of Digital Foundry for the first time. And it looked pretty bad, even though picture settings were the same as on my PS4 and X1S.
When playing Injustice 2 (or any other HDR game like HZD or Uncharted) on my Pro it looks much better. The youtube image looked extremely washed out and wrong.

After watching tons of Movies and playing games in HDR I'am pretty confident that I know how HDR should look on this TV.

Has anyone else experience with the youtube app and HDR on a KS7000/KS8000?

lol i read zero at times -- and i can't tell what it does. i literally go up to my tv and increase it to 100 and see no change. i feel for the switch tho it needs to be around 25 bc otherwise shit is really blurry

The image comes in with zero sharpness applied. Any value above zero makes the TV add a sharpening filter. Anything above 20 adds lots of artefacts around the edges and I don't like it.

(Somes TV's must be set to 50 or other values to disable the sharpening filter. The KS7000/8000 and most other Samsung TV's however need to be set to 0 as explained above)

Ok I tried out these settings and they were a huge dud for me. Tons of extra grain that just ruined the picture. I am back to my normal Natural settings which looks much better overall. I am toying with low DC atm and like it so far.

HDR GAME MODE FIRMWARE PATCH:

The projected target date in November was not "missed"...it was officially postponed by the South Korean corporate offices, at the request of the executives who sign off on global OTN software distribution. Their stated concern was that the multitude of "patches" being distributed were causing unintended problems for "regular" users of the KS/KU series TVs. They instructed R&D to resolve ongoing issues before allocating any further resources to providing features that a "very small percentage" of users were requesting. Incidentally, the Q7s and Q9s received the firmware patch as scheduled, along with other fixes intended to resolve bugs in the OS. Per an email I received on December 19th from Yoon Sun Choi, a tentative date for the distribution of the HDR GAME MODE patch has not been finalized; R&D is currently working on prepping the 2018 lineup for launch, so I anticipate they'll get back to the KS/KU series and its many issues once they're done. Again, all of you who've been complaining about the "delay" need to realize this was not even on their "TO DO" list until I brought it to their attention. Gamers are not their intended global demographic for these sets, and South Korea only agreed to look into this because I was able to prove that their arch-rivals (LG) had updated their OLEDs specifically for this purpose. I've tested the patch on my Q9, and it does work...you do get to define discrete picture settings for SDR as well as HDR while in Game Mode...and once you do, the TV switches automatically depending on the input signal.

From Rudy1 from Florida.

I can't bring myself to believe him again.

Lol yeah i have the same issue.

I also have the issue where my sound bar just wouldn't connect. Have to restart that too.

Sometimes it fails to pick up the ps4 feed and i have to unplug the hdmi cable and put it back in.

I also have random online disconnects even on wired connections.

This has to be the buggiest piece of hardware I've ever had and i had a Sony Xperia z1s.
My remote started this way, and it eventually totally died. Samsung replaced it free of charge.

Man, I love this TV so fucking much and used to frequent the last thread on GAF but I've since settled into comfort with my settings.

The discussion in here is undoing that (as this discussion always does) hahahaha.

Suddenly I'm wondering if I have it all wrong. If I'm an idiot for not leaving Game Mode when I watch Netflix on my PS4. If I have a set that actually supports the Game Mode HDR auto-adjust after all.

Gahhhhhhh. Back on my bullshit.

Chiming in on the whole DC/HDR issue:

I've had the TV over a year and have found that the best DC setting changes depending on the game.

XBX:
Star Wars Battlefront 2 - Off or High (low or medium creates the sunglass effect)
COW WW2 - Off
Madden 18 - High
Assassin's Creed Origins - Off using the HDR slider in game (1000 nits and 200 paper white)
Forza Horizon 7 - Off
Gears 4 - Off

PS4 Pro:
NBA 2k17 - Off, Medium, or High based on preference
Horizon Zero Dawn - Off
GT Sport - Off
Uncharted 4 - Medium or High

I'd wish Samsung would issue a fix for the "sunglass effect" we all complain about with the various Off - Medium settings with DC.

Conversely, I'd also wish developers would include a detailed HDR toggle like the one seen in Assassin's Creed Origins and COD WW2.
