Abso-fucking-lutely. Was really hoping they would hook up. ;_; According to wiki (he's a real person), he DID divorce his wife....

Just binge watched this with my girlfriend.
Amazing.

I'm really invested in characters and the story...Midge's dad was absolutely hilarious!

I would not have predicted that Luke Kirby (Jon from Rectify) would have so much charisma as Lenny Bruce.

And no one mentioned that the former Bailey Buntain the Blonde Bunhead is in this!

Rachel winning is well-deserved.... The show, well, it was the best of what was nominated. American Vandal wasn't even nominated. :(

the exchanged between Midge and her dad on episode 5 about her getting a job was hilarious. Tony Shaloub is great

Just binged the show. Incredible stuff. Rachel Brosnahan is just a force of nature in this. One of the best breakout comedy roles of all time.

Finished the show today. What an incredible cast, beautiful design, and witty dialogue. Tony Shalhoub made me laugh every time he was on screen.

Any Gilmore Guys fans should check or resubscribe to their feed, because Kevin has revived it along with (easily the best GG guest ever) Alice as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Goys.

I kind of hope they'd up the episode numbers a bit for the second season. This few episodes kept the pacing super tight but I felt it didn't leave much room for some situations to breathe and most characters who weren't the titular character each got, like, 5 minutes of time to shine at most throughout the whole season.

That's kind of unfair tho because his eps were basically the Gilmore Guys guesting on Mantzoukas' own Gilmore Girls podcast.
Still counts, he's still top dog.

I'd take Troli (he better be episode four), Aisha and the Sarahs over Alice but they're all pretty solid. The big loss is Demi. Guest were good but the dynamic made the show great.

Shit, yeah Aisha was my other fave.

Yeah, I'll miss Demi, but Alice brings a great perspective to this as a woman standup.

(And don't get me wrong, I love the fuck out of Jason)

I just finished a binge watch of this over the weekend, and I was shocked at how good it was (outside of the Patriot most Amazon shows have been a miss for me). Rachel Brosnahan is great (it took me 5 episodes to figure out she was in House of Cards). My only complaints are I wish Joel wasn't such a big part of the second half of the season (still I like where the arc went), and I wish they never gave her kids (thankfully they stayed away from too many kid issues). While I never watched Gilmore Girls, are her shows always this mix of hard reality and almost a fantasy (for the lack of a better word at this time) world? I swear at times I thought I was watching a musical without the music (which is pretty cool).

Most of the times the show I want to win is not even nominated. Better Things, to me, was by far the best comedy series of 2017 (its not even close), and Future Man was the funniest thing I've watched in 2018 (funniest doesn't always mean best in quality too). Still I have zero issue with this winning. Outside of Master of None it was the only show I really liked out of the shows nominated (the best drama nominees are just as bad). Also it guarantees another season!

Yup. Gilmore Girls is an ridiculous mixture of idealized New England living, class melodrama, and screwball comedy.

Rachel and Tony Shaloub carry this show to greatness. It's a great series, and way better than Gilmore Girls.

This show would be great if it had any kind of momentum. It's not in any hurry to build towards any sort of conflict so I had this "so what?" feeling. Even with 7 or 8 episodes it felt unnecessarily decompressed. The cast is perfect, the characters are fun and well written. Susie is tough but not a cliche, Abe is a strict traditionalist but capable of bending, Midge definitely has the energy and charisma to carry the show. When you binge this show, it seems like Midge never sees her kids. They're either with their grandparents, babysitter or sitting in front of the tv.

Midge at the party in e5-6 was so great to watch. i've seen people absolutely work a party like that with story telling and thought they should've gone into comedy.

LTTP, but this show is so good. The writing and cast are so good. Rachel Brosnahan is incredible and Alex Borstein is hilarious. Shaloub and Pollak are great too. I think it might be my favorite of 2017.

The marketing really did this show no favors. I was determined to never give it a glance based on Amazon's Prime Video promo. "Some whimsical 1950s period piece? No thanks." I had no idea stand up comedy was even involved. If their primary poster had been one of her holding a mic on stage (doing one of her looks) instead of just... turning around in a crowd, I would have read the show description and checked it out right away.

Thank god it won those Golden Globes because it convinced me to look into it and discover one of my top shows of 2017. It's so goddamn funny and smart and rich. And for me, given my own false prejudices, the biggest surprise of the year.

I watched it a few weeks ago and couldn't agree more with this post. It's an absolutely phenomenal show.

Did I miss a season or something.

When was season 2....or did season 1 do so well that even just reading seasons 2s script was enough to renew for a 3rd season?

Either way im hyped.

Season 2 hasn't aired yet; the season 3 renewal was probably driven by the Golden Globes and the Peabody awards for the first.

I'm really bummed that this show doesn't get more credit on ResetEra with a bigger thread (it doesn't help that the OT title is somewhat a garbled mess, fix that!).

I've watched through it twice (I'm a huge lover of comedy, so it really resonates with me). There are a few things I particularly loved, as a comedian, where you can tell the writers know the scene much better than most, and really do their due diligence to show that to you.

For example, the "sophomore slump". Most people who try comedy for the first time have a much better time their first time (usually because they sound more natural, or have more friends in the audience) than they do their second time. A lot of aspiring comedians absolutely "eat shit" their second time through the gauntlet, and this show works really well to show users those ins & outs.

I also really loved how they show the progression of material. A lot of people never understand the Open Mic scene and think they're going to see a "show", not people working on putting together a show, so it was great and refreshing to see that.

I could gush over this show all day long, and I'm so happy it's getting a second and third season. I hope they don't push it too far into the "fame" territory though, as I think the small time scene working clubs and the road are FAR more interesting as source material.

So it's probably time to give this thread a bump and a refresh given season 2 is out on Wednesday

Anyone else watching it already? I only saw the first episode, seems to have a bit more of the serious scenes than last season, or maybe that's just the episode. Still hilarious, though, and they probably couldn't have crammed more French clichés into it if they tried. That scene at the Seine promenade 😂

I saw the first episode and didn't love it. Felt like an odd choice of opening for a season. Still hilarious though.
