Damn, people are really harsh on this.
I think it's looked really good for a while now.

At work so I just jumped through the newest environment video real quick, but didn't they give Miriam a scarf not too long ago? Did that already change?

Not a fan of how this environment looks at all. It doesn't really evoke a sense of artistry, it just makes me think "Yep, that's an Unreal Engine game".

I do really enjoy the way the background scrolls, though, it just feels old school.

Development Update - A New Environment? When Pigs Fly!
Posted by Koji Igarashi (Creator)

Happy holidays! We've got a lot to show you before 2017 draws to a close, including a brand new environment. Here's IGA to tell you all about it:

TUwtZeyYVqZfTfugcDnDohyxGfz_nEm2dgaNQVQVEPv-1LjsPNgeGizp9kBnS5T_V8ROl42fYgawiBz5DbEJWf-aTeO-PMzo-IXtvLniva2DjQJnPtfzaO3vr3TG1Baw1eRl7LjVXzQfCILjLISSMjlFUBzeRkYNULIsf3oa93YRnORWjt1KPdOVZykr7lZDHMS7WETMOLmjbiq49F3yZ5gtumUN5JE6Fbe--4zYreaBfE4SrLI6HOqrIyVgTDwZ=s0-d-e1-ft

Merry Christmas! IGA here. This month we've been busy adding interactive assets to make the environment more lively, so you can see things moving and spinning as you navigate the stages.

In today's update, we're sharing a new stage! It's inspired by a traditional Japanese motif. Please enjoy the scenery and the colorful autumn leaves in this video preview. (This is also the first time we are sharing this stage's soundtrack.)

ArtPlay also passed along a sneak peek at an enemy you haven't seen yet.

the game still needs some polishing. but every update removes a bit of faith that it's gonna get it.

Update looks good to me glad i backed, i wanna raise my tier but i won't do it due to import taxes being quite ridiculous in EU.... Or well atleast in my country.

When i bought 4 splatoon shirts in japan i had to pay 40 euro's extra lol. Well atleast 2 of those are the official licensed splatfest Marie and Callie shirts atleast and those indeed look awesome :P

Anyway looks good to me i am sure it will be polished more and we did not see enemies yet in the level too.

I think this game will turn out fine, funnily enough i am more excited about that roquelike mode, that will add so much replayability. But the extra modes are coming after release if i remember it correctly.

Like what I see. Did they increase her movement speed a bit? I know that was a big complaint and she appeared to be moving a bit faster. Maybe not

The game still has at least 3 to 6 months of development left, and that's supposing there's no delay into the 2nd half of 2018. Almost all of polishing in games happens in the last couple of months. The developers of the massive and super well received Horizon said that 3 months before launch the game didn't look or played like the release version! I mean bloodstained will never look like Horizon but I can already tell, for example, the water here looks significantly better than it did in the last update.

Pretty much you polish only when you have all systems and assets in place, not before.
They still have plenty of time to tweak the game until their deadline

Here's to good ginally playing Bloodstained in 2018. May there be no significant delays and we get a fantastic game worthy of being the spiritual successor of Castlevania we all want.

Any news on a date yet?

I'm also curious about platform differences...I have my pledge sorted out for the Switch at the moment.

Well, so far we've seen that the Switch can do an admirable job of handling UE4 ports with Snake Pass and NBA Playgrounds. Since Bloodstained is at its core a relatively simple game (no crazy physics simulation, etc.), I would suspect - or hope - that it shouldn't be downgraded visually. I'd say at the most, it might end up being 30 fps instead of 60 fps, but maybe it'll be 30 portable and 60 docked?

I have Switch as my chosen platform as well.

Hope so. That would be ideal. It's looking a bit fancier than I expected which I suppose is the reason for the question.

I was under the impression that any "port" will not start untill after the game is done since they aren't the ones doing the porting but another studio is ?
So there would be no news of anything like switch , vita or so on untill the game is close to gold status.

was i wrong ?

AFAIK, the Switch version is being developed alongside the other versions. The cancelled Wii U version and the (somehow still not cancelled) Vita version are/were being outsourced to Armature.

Somewhere.
Hey, having backed this, is it still possible to change versions of the game?

Edit: Okay now I have finally updated the order for the switch version.

Weird how there's no difference between the area you walk on and the background. They really need to improve that area of readability.

I wonder if Armature is still being in charge or needed for the Switch version if that now get's the same UE4 version as the other consoles/PC. Part of the contract was port work for the engine down to Wii U / Vita, i think.

Seeing as Armature was doing the port work converting UE4 for the Wii U and Vita since they weren't officially supported by Epic, I doubt the same stipulation applies in this case for the Switch as it has native support for UE4 without extraneous workarounds like Armature was doing in the case of the Vita version.

Armature is releasing their ported UE4 code for the Wii U and Vita as-is with no support. Seeing as the Switch is an officially supported UE4 platform there is no necessity for a 3rd party studio to unofficially port UE4 to the Switch as is the case like the Wii U and Vita scenarios here.

Does anyone know how Bloodstained physical copies will work? I read that it's available for pre-order on Amazon, but not for all platforms. During the campaign, they were offering physical copies for all platforms, including the Vita.
