Listening to the latest podcast and realizing that the Souls Retro never finished. Completely forgot about that. Looking forward to the Bloodborne episode.

I wonder if they'll stick to D&D or try something new. The group chemistry is the best.

I think they'll use DnD since it's meant to be in the same world.

What are some other good tabletop things they could do? I'm no expert at all and only know DnD and Fiasco.
Is there stuff that is inspired by Japanese or Chinese myths as opposed to western fantasy, cause that'd be cool.

Hong Kong Action Theatre..!
Tales from the Loop

But yeah, it'd make sense for them to continue with D&D since they're familiar with it and I'm sure Ben has more story to tell. Lars had grain.

DnD is more of a rule set than anything else. WotC does publish the forgotten realms setting alongside the rule set, so that is most likely the most widely used style (western fantasy); however, there are countless settings published for 5e. Ben could easily find an Eastern themed setting complete with lore, monsters, and class options.

I expect them to continue with 5e because it is amongst the simplest tabletop rule sets for the type of game that they play.

I would love it if they did single session (3 - 4 episode) arcs of other games. Vampire Masquerade, Star Wars RPG, Shadowrun, and of course Pokemon Tabletop Adventures. But that is a lot of extra work for Ben

HOLY SHIT POKEMON TABLETOP?!

I want that! And Star Wars!
And I still want some Eastern stuff.
Having self contained arcs with a shorter run would be cool. I think it'd help get newcomers who aren't invested in the long story of Escapades.

Pokemon Tabletop is very complex, when I GMed a mini arc over the summer I had to cut out a ton of rules to make it playable over 4 sessions (about 8 hours). It is however super fun. Watching someone who has never played a Pokemon game power level a squirtle to a Blastoise and get owned by some feral Charmanders was great.

Star Wars RPG is also really good and rather simplistic. They stopped producing it in like the early 90's so it is all original trilogy and EU stuff.

Ben, if you ever want to learn some new rule sets, hit me up ;)

Oh and after finishing Pyre last night, I really hope it gets a nod in the OST department for the EZA Awards. It's up there with Persona 5 and NieR: Automata for me.

Still trying to work out where the game as a whole fits on my 2017 GOTY list, but it's definitely in my top 5. I'm glad I got to play it before the Era GOTY season is over.

I've began ys8 as my start of 2018 game(imported cause I didn't like what I saw of the translation) and I'm honestly very impressed by how much fun I'm having. I was never that big into Ys I enjoyed ark(6) and was kinda lukewarm on origin and felghana to be honest but 8 really sucked me in with how all the different rpg systems work together to create a rewarding flow of progression. I feels like unlocking new levels, skills, island areas, people for your headquarters, etc happen to be paced extremely well. Ben was pretty on point with his review so far it seems. Story/characters seem to be somewhat of a weakpoint so far but still better than other ys games I played.
I think the direction ys8 is taking here is at least nice with trying to make you care more about the characters around you it just needs a bit more of it.

From the Q&A, apparently a few of them don't like the five star system. This explains why they keep using numbers in casual conversations or rating things beside games.

As for Kyle disliking the logo because it's just text, I could see them adjusting the kerning and make at least one letter look unique so it's no longer a stock font.

I'd love a new logo, because they probably designed the current one quickly out of necessity for the launch of the Patreon. It'd be cool to see Kyle or whoever design a new logo without that pressure.

I didn't start following the crew until a month or so before GT's closure, but looking back on it, it had quite a few logo redesigns over the years.

Would prefer a new logo. The current one seems a bit too bland.
They need something that conveys that "jolly" feeling of EZA (something that FantomenK's theme does perfectly and holy crap it never gets old).

I mostly like the current logo, but it needs SOMETHING. It isn't quite there.

Well no, it's there because people asked for it. I don't know if there is still an interest for it, but it was the most requested thing to add on top of their initial goals.

Trailer Jones wasn't quite where I needed it to be. I loved Let's All Go To The Trailers. I want something closer to that. Multiple trailers reviewed at a time with Kyle and Blood in the room with Jones (as opposed to skyping in).

There's not really much they could do with the letters E and A though. And I'd hate if they had "EZA" on their main logo. It makes no sense. E ZED A? What does that mean?

I'm glad that Brandon is taking a back seat in the active content production and focuses more on the management side of things. It's not that I don't enjoy his content (Cup of Jones <333) but I feel like EZA as a whole would benefit more from being run as a tighter ship. The Souls Retro was handled pretty badly, as is Box Peek currently. The production values of Trailer Jones did not reflect the amount they want on Patreon either. It should rather switch places with Game Sleuth or the Retros. I'm curious to see what they're going to change for this year (do we know when they're going to announce it?) because, after two years as EZA, they definitely lost me as a long-time viewer since the GT days. But to be fair, that's perfectly fine.

Even with management, I don't think Box Peek would be changed at all. Something was funded going into the unknown that none of them have any experience with. The timescales were wrong, but seemed long enough that it might be delivered before then so nothing would have changed it.

Souls Retro was bad though. Lost the momentum from bringing in decent amounts of views. I'd rather trailer jones was removed rather than switch with Retros or Game Sleuth though.

With Box Peek there's also the fact that Kyle wants to do everything on his own this time. As far as I'm aware the other allies are just doing voice acting.

Just listened to the podcast. That "Mom reviews games" L&R was magical. I had a beaming smile throughout the bus ride to work as I listened.

Box Peek was announced in May last year and was funded shortly after the announcement (May 19th to June 2nd). It was supposed to come out in August. I understand that you can get the timescale wrong but Kyle's perfectionism is holding the show back in that regard, as he himself admitted. I can sympathize with Kyle on every level when it comes to creating something and how your own perfectionism plays into that, but that's where someone like Brandon needs to stop being a friend, start being a boss and step in. At the same time, I realize how shitty this sounds and, of course, no one wants a rushed shitshow just because a timeframe was written down once. "Let it cook", as they like to say. But at the same time, I hope you get where I'm coming from.

With Box Peek there's also the fact that Kyle wants to do everything on his own this time. As far as I'm aware the other allies are just doing voice acting.

Again, I know this, I understand this and I can 100% sympathize with Kyle. That doesn't mean it couldn't have been handled better so far.

I mean, even Kyle stated he probably really underestimated the time needed to work on Box Peek. And let's not forget that E3 happened weeks after it was funded, which just pushed back the time frame for Kyle.

It'll come out when it comes out. More waiting can't hurt.

Even if you typically pronounce Z as zed, for EZA you need to pronounce it the American way or it makes no sense.

Zed bothers me almost as much as Brits saying iDeer instead of idea.

On the subject of the logo...

I don't think having a logo that is just text with different colors is a bad thing. Facebook's logo is like that. The most prominent feature of the Facebook logo is the blue background, chosen because blue is commonly interpreted as a color that means trust. With EZA's logo, you can get versions of it that are either red/white/black or grey/white/blue, but the core idea of the logo still holds true: The letters differ in color, but the lines at the top and bottom do not, which conveys the idea that this is a group of people with differing personalities who unite within the same space for a common purpose.

The question that I have about the logo is, does it accurately convey what EZA is? Any logo needs to speak to the guiding principles of the company it represents. Nike is very clear about their guiding principles: they make products for athletes. Accordingly, the "swoosh" in the Nike logo is a simple representation of moving swiftly from one point to another, as a cyclist or a runner would round a tricky corner. If Brandon and the other Allies were to distill the guiding principles of EZA down to a statement or two, would they agree with the idea that EZA's primary guiding principle is "getting different people together for a common purpose"? If so, then the current logo is fine.

His power was out so it never happened.
So that's what happened. Didn't know he gave an explanation. I was looking forward to that more than anything else. Will he ever get back to it? I know the game has technical issues but I'm pretty sure it's due to the emulation of the PS3. Played it recently myself & there are issues I never had when i played it in the PS1.

it's gonna be a battle between mario and zelda, but maybe some other allies will bring other games just to spice it up a little. (we know huber with p5, maybe brad with yakuza?

but yeah, it's gonna boil to those 2

btw ourghostsofwar keep me updated with your impression on ever17!

Took a little longer than I wanted but I'm getting back into it today. Will be playing tonight until I get my first ending. Looking forward to it. :)
