I think you misunderstood what he meant. He isn't talking about a specific feature, just the fact that the Airpods not being in-ear buds (with those plastic tips that create a seal) allow more outside noise in.
I love mine.
My only complaint is there is no way to raise or lower volume. Even if double tap on left ear for vol down and double tap on right ear for vol up was a thing.
When i pause, i take one out of my ear, and i rarely skip tracks with them.

First product where I feel the Apple slogan of "it just works" when it comes to wireless. Truly wireless, as seamless of a connection between multiple Apple devices as it gets, great battery life, good sound quality for what it is
I'm not in the market for new earbuds, but I'd probably be open to a new wireless pair with audio quality on-par with the $100 Sony, Sennheiser, etc. models. Sticking to wired for now. I'm hoping Apple drops better AirPods sometime soon.
I think they went for average...just like every headphone manufacturer ever. They all define average differently but no iems or earbuds I've ever had fit everyone. Some work for me and others don't. The Apple configuration does, but if it doesn't work for you it's not because they're poorly designed.

Got mine a few weeks ago, love them. Huge quality of life improvement even if initially $160 to not have to deal with wires seems frivolous.
I still think they look kind of stupid but I see them so often in public now that it's pretty normal.

Another thing that I love is how well they work for making phone calls. Sound and voice is crystal clear and makes workday chat so much easier around the office.
Also, I honestly couldn't care less what people think of how they look when I'm wearing these - that's more of a "your problem" then a "my problem". I mean, the only visual difference between these and the traditional apple buds which are seen everywhere and part of modern culture is that there aren't wires attached to the end of the bands. I think it's just a matter of time before they are common place enough for people to quit thinking they're "douchy" - or whatever, which is ridiculous.

BeatsX are super meh, Powerbeats3 are alright if you can get them in the $110 range.
Muddy bass as usual. There are 20 dollar ear buds that sound far better.

And I'm so in the club. I left them at a cottage by accident. Within an hour at home I had found a new pair on Kijiji.
Music/listening will get around 5 hours. Talk time is much less, about 90 min. I throw one in my ear to Skype with a friend while I game, and they run out of juice pretty quick. But in terms of just listening, they're quite good.

I've had them for around 12 months now and they're fantastic. It's perfect for me at the gym. I put them on before I leave the house (I don't need the case at the gym). When I get in the car and plug my phone into CarPlay, the audio switches over. When I get to the gym, double tap and it's on again in my ears. They've NEVER fallen out while on the treadmill. Left side pauses, right side skips track. Then it's the same again when I drive home.
AirPods on throughout the whole trip! My life is perfect now: iPhone X, AirPods and CarPlay. What more could you want?

I haven't given leather a shot this time. I tried a couple of times with old iPhones but they get dirty too quickly. The silicone cases wear down, so they're kinda always clean looking.
I've been waiting for these things to be in normal stock, but never happened. So I finally just ordered some the other day. Takes about three weeks to arrive. Insane demand and lack of supply.

I saw a lot of them leading up to Christmas but now I see them literally everywhere all the time. Crazy how this product blew up. I think it's a combination of being priced right for a gift product, and being a "once you try it..." type of thing.
I'm waiting for the first real update or second. No rush to go wireless but when I do it's easy choices considering all the impressions the past year.

You just select them from the audio drop down on Mac or the control center audio widget on iOS.
I've really enjoyed mine so far. It's weird that my left ear is shaped differently than my right... LOL. So, the right pod is secure while the left will fall out if I blink too hard.
Thankfully $10 gel inserts on Amazon help a bunch, especially during strenuous activity. Sure, I have to plan around using the inserts but it's a small issue.

Ive had mine for six months and use them at the gym 3 days a week. They seem to handle it fine so far.
