That definitely needs to be part of high level competitive play. "Getting thumbed."

seems like the sort of minutia moba players would like to exploit. I'm trash at the game despite playing it a lot, but i like the weird angles into the mechanics and the like.

My #1 protip for people who are just starting is try not to die! Run away if you can, less deaths is more important than more kills. I swear 75% of the games I win, we are behind on kills.

I can second this. I don't watch or play MOBAs generally, but I just got back from HRX and the SMITE World Championships. It's amazing how much of the fighting is just poking at running away. The full on team battles are very rare.

Watching pro SMITE players also made me realize that I have no idea how and when to effectively jungle.

I've been cursed to work in MOBAs, and still only know a fraction. I feel like team fights happen, but it's chaos. I made it into gold and I really shouldn't be there and that means other non-gold people are there as well.

I heard they had to turn minions and towers into "paper" in League because turtling was so bad at pro level. I like that team fights are a minute one meta for Heroes of the Storm, the game on paper I should like the most, but I don't.

I should try HotS. I actually found I enjoy SMITE quite a lot, though I'm pretty terrible.

WWG is the gaming division of comicbook.com.

ah, cool. I liked Smite a bit, but again, utter trash. I like AoV because I'm hoping I can bring my account over to the Switch version and skip road to glory, etc.

Same. I'm really excited for that launch. I can only imagine how high Nintendo will be sitting once Switch launches in China with AoV, as it's already obviously massively popular there.

i mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be the first f2p game on the switch? i mean, the pinball game is kinda, but not really.

Plus, AoV is quality, even if some of the microtransactions are poopy. Curious how it will stick, but considering how well almost everything is doing on switch....

AoV is going to be bananas on Switch. Serving a hardcore, F2P, highly polished MOBA to that userbase is going to prove incredibly smart.

Yeah, no doubt. Such a killer move on Nintendo's part to work with Tencent on this. I wonder who approached who? I'll be speaking to a Tencent rep soon, so I'll ask how that all went down.

if switch is crossplay and/or we can invite all of those people to the guild.... I will actually have to set up a donation drive of some sort lol

the price it costs to upgrade the guild size is pretty bullshit tbh, my one complaint about the game.

As someone who's wanted to play Lol with a controller for ages, how is this going to work? Are you gonna be able to aim skills with the stick? How do you target minions or champs? Is there any gameplay for switch yet?

IMO, I don't think they would allow crossplay due to control advantages. Unless they would implement controller compatibility with the mobile version.

I'm actually working on a big video of "what ifs" for the switch version, but going to wait for the fabled nintendo direct first, if there's any answers

I've thought about this, actually.

The 'A' button could initiate your basic attack. There are only two abilities and an ultimate, right?

Let's consider using your first ability. Simply hold down the left trigger while you aim with the right stick, and release the trigger to use your ability. Click in the right stick to cancel. Same with the second ability and the right trigger. For your ultimate, pull both triggers at once.

That leaves you free at all times to keep moving with the left stick, and aim with the right stick. I assume targeting will work the same as it does on mobile. You can adjust parameters in settings that will adjust your targeting priorities between minions, towers, and heroes.

There's two shoulder buttons and two triggers on switch, so you wouldn't even need to do the pull both for ult thing. Otherwise, this would work nicely. Hopefully there will be control customization.

True, but Nintendo generally likes games on the Switch to be playable with a single Joy-Con. I'd also probably like to keep my fingers planted as opposed to hopping back and forth from shoulder to trigger.

Then you wouldn't be able to aim with the right stick if there's only one.

Checkmate. Quite true.

I think the price (while not justified) is there because nothing else forces you to pay money. So they charge in the one spot where major guilds will have to pay to keep upgrading. It makes sense, but the cost is crazy as hell. I'm just glad there isn't any form of pay to win. That's all I was concerned about originally.

Aren't the Arcana pay to win?

I'd argue no, you get two pages for free, so it's limiting but you can one trick (or two trick)
The arcana themselves can only be bought with gold, and oddly you can't buy gold with vouchers (real money)

The most bull for the f2p stuff is the lucky draw heroes - Moloch and Airi (her, in particular) are on a slot machine!
Airi had a big win rate in EU but a play rate of .1% and that decimal is not an error.

What xir said. The arcana do buff your stats slightly (or somewhat significantly when you start stacking Tier III arcana), but you can only unlock them with in-game currency, which can't be purchased with real money.

Oh ok, cool. I havent delved too much into arcana yet, I just know you could buy them with gold, and the bonuses were nice. haha.

Double post again, haha.

I had my two team mates leave early in a 3v3 that wasnt going so well...then they left and the AI followed me, and we fucking crushed the other team, haha.

Rad. Lu Bu is fun as hell, once you figure out his first attack can be used 3 times, haha.

Yeah, I'll add on to what they both said, and say get arcana as fast as you can. I actually held off on buying any champions yet, due to the fact that they give you around 19 for free and have been stacking all gold into tier 3 arcana only ( I found a build that works generally for warrior type champions / Jungle) and I have every arcana slot filled that I have open with Tier 3 so far. So it isn't impossible to get them filled out as you play.

It does suck that new pages cost, but they do in League too so I was expecting it to be honest.

don't get me wrong there's some bull, i think in EU some characters could only be bought with vouchers (real money) and not gold, and the lucky spin heroes are dumb, but it's not too much in the bull department. Extra arcana pages and guilds are weird, Zephys is technically a 1$ i guess, but road to glory is generous at least.

Not sure how much of an edge arcana can do, except maybe early levels, but yeah, it's 60k of gold to fill out a full arcana page with tier 3 arcana, to put that into perspective.

Pay to win, not really, but def some small weird advantages

So from this hud, it looks like the shoulder buttons are the skills.

Man, the ui is really slick looking too. Better than both the mobile version and Lol, I'd say.

6 games seems to be a lot to play for the daily rewards.

What I've found myself doing is playing a single 1v1 game and winning then playing 5 more 1v1 games while I'm watching tv or doing something else and just letting my opponent win.

Yeah, I do 3v3. I tried a 1v1 today just for shiggles, and it took much longer than the 3v3 and it was way less fun. haha.

People just do not understand how to play is all, and it is frustrating. They always auto-lock the carry heroes and don't know how to do shit. Quite annoying. I just need to play ranked.

Ahh, yeah. Hopefully ranked solves your problem.

I just have Butterfly left to earn, and then I have all the free characters (I think? haha). Then I will need to figure out what I should spend my ~20k gold on. Any suggestions?

Hooray, made it to plat V. At the moment my go to heroes are Tel'annas, Cresht and Natalya. On super rare occasions if I get to jungle or play a dps warrior I really like Lu bu. Im really interested in Tulen and Mganga but Natalya just feels so strong. Hit the stun and theres really few heroes who can survive Arcane+spirit combo plus her range is really good. Veera is very similar but Natalya range makes her easier to stand in the very backline in teamfights.

What I've been noticing is Cresht feels really strong right now. Any game with a Cresht, he absolutely obliterates the lane he is in. It's insane, and his ult in team fights is just obnoxious. I really want to try him, but I've only really played Ormarr and Zephys up to Gold rank right now.

Cresht is stupid strong. Easy to soak xp in lane even against ranged thanks to the shield and his ulti turns any teamfight into a mayhem; massive shield, mobility, big damage.
