Do I need to play all the other Summon Night games in order to understand this?
No, but it definitely helps. The core of this game is a huge, franchise-wide crossover that works best if you know who the characters are.
Naturally, this is a bit difficult since only one of the mainline games and three spinoffs have been localized.
If you've never touched a Summon Night game before you can still have fun with the SRPG combat but the story is going to follow a pretty simple "New character appears, fight battle with enemies, new character joins you" for the most part.
Does this game have good SRPG combat? Is it difficult?
For the most part it's pretty easy. The SRPG combat is solid but lacks the depth of some of the more popular SRPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics.
Whoah I loved these games on the GBA! Is this a sequel?
Kinda? What you played were the localized Summon Night: Swordcraft Story spinoff games. They had action gameplay sorta like the first couple of Tales Series games. This is the latest in the mainline series which are all SRPGs. We also had Summon Night: Twin Age, a real-time strategy game game on the DS localized. The only previous mainline title that was localized was Summon Night 5.
Is the original Japanese audio included in the release? Or as DLC?
Nope! Only the dub is included here but voices can be turned off.
Any differences between the PS4 and Vita versions?
Just the usual performance/graphical downgrades. Neither bad enough that your choice should be anything but personal preference.
Does this game support cross-save?
Is there a special or limited edition for the game?
Yes! Last year preorders were available for the "Wonderful Edition" but have been closed for over a year now. I believe Video Games Plus might have some stock left, though.
My personal thanks goes out to Gaijinworks and Vic Ireland for localizing this.
As a huge fan of the series it means a lot that y'all will work to bring these over when nobody else will!
