Oh, there is a SV topic! Woo! Hi all.

Has there been any news on patching the Cooking/Refrigerator crash yet? Or what, if any, is the workaround for if you do want to cook?
I need to make Maki and a Fried Egg for the Community Center but can't do it without the game crashing when I go to sleep that night.

The developers are working on a patch which fixes that and other bugs but no release date has been given for that yet.

There is though a way to avoid the crash bug, the best place for details on how to avoid it seems to be here .....

I already have this game on Steam and PS4. I've been trying to stop myself from triple dipping on Switch. ;-;

I'm going to give in eventually.

I picked the game up on Friday for the Switch, and I think I've actually spent more time in it than Mario Odyssey! It's quite addicting.

Has anyone else had the issue with static sounds in the Switch version? It seems to happen randomly when I'm playing docked. I saw a post on reddit stating that the developers are looking into it. Any word on if a patch will be coming?

Otherwise fantastic game! So easy to pick up and play for 15 minutes at a time.

The audio crackle is a known bug as you say, the developers have said that they know the cause and that it will be fixed in the patch (but we don't yet know when the patch will be released).

Okay, thanks! I was initially panicking that my speakers were busted. Quitting out of the game and going back in stops the crackling so I'll do that until a fix comes.

Do you guys know of any workarounds for the sleeping crash bug?

I'm in spring year 3, and any time I try to upgrade one of my tools to iridium, the game crashes when I try to sleep. I've also made sure there are no gaps in any of my chests or containers, so I don't know what is causing this.

Any ideas?

I had the same question a few posts ago; answered subsequently:

That part I did read, which was why before sleeping, I went around and made sure my inventory, none of my chests, or the fridge, had any gaps in them, and I'm still getting the crash.

I guess I'll just have to wait for a patch.

I don't think so, the townsfolk are just weirded out that you're digging through their trash (which is reasonable, really), and some of their comments feel like they're aiming for humor rather than insulting.

There are events that definitely paint Linus in a sympathetic light (the first one where he's caught digging through trash especially) and despite him being an outsider and usually keeping his distance, he still attends the festivals (and during the luau, he actually does some cooking, which people compliment if I remember correctly). They play up his mistrust of people enough that I think the goal was to portray his lifestyle as more of a choice, going for more of a "hermit" than "bum." I don't think the villagers dislike him so much as just don't know him. But they aren't all particularly nasty towards him (that first event ends with Gus feeding him, actually, and Robin comments that they don't mind him living behind their cabin since he doesn't bother them). I think the only nasty comment comes from Haley, if I remember right, which fits her personality.

If ConcernedApe does another AMA I'll ask what his goal was for Linus.

I'm actually talking about the more subtle undertones which (to me at least) clearly show the developers political/economical world view - a strikingly neo-liberal one. Like with Linus, who's hated for begging and going through garbage - which can be seen as leeching off of others, but rewarded when he participates and contributes to society - like with his cooking at the Luau. Yes, it's a lifestyle choice, because that's more or less the message of the game: be an entrepreneur, because if you're not, you're a bum. Like with the main character quitting his save but boring job and starting a risky business he has no idea about. Everyone has some sort of Job, people who don't or are lazy are looked down upon like Haley.
And then there are the responses you can choose from during events and dialogues. They always steer you in a certain direction. Like with the "Linus goes through the trash"-event, there is no neutral or positive answer along the lines of "I don't care, do whatever you like". The only answers you get are either "ugh that's disgusting" or "go get a job!". Even the most neutral one was not neutral, but rather like "stop this, this is not yours".
It's especially striking to me, since this is the first game where I ever felt this sort of social commentary - striking because it is a world view I strongly disagree with and picking the right answer is almost impossible because usually I can't identify with either of them.

Were you just looking for gaps? If so, instead try to remove then add an item to the fridge and each chest. See if that helps.

Ah, shoot! That's a bummer. Adding/removing an item from the fridge directly after cooking seems to have solved the issue for me. Did you try the tool method? Something about removing all the tools from your inventory?

Finally bought this game a week and a half ago, and it's everything I could've hoped for. Already put together a rudimentary model to optimize my crop selection, analyze the impact of "fun purchases", and forecast my proficiency progressions. It says something about the game that I can nerd out going deep like that while my gf can min everything but foraging and relationships and have a fun time.

Isn't there a positive "I don't mind, it's a shame that food would go to waste" answer?

I finally got it to work by adding and removing an item from every chest/container that I have, and putting all of my inventory into a chest before I slept.

Kind of a pain in the ass, but at least it worked.

Huh. Playing Switch version, I found an odd glitch. I was holding an Egg, and pressed Y on my Mayonnaise Machine which had a completed Mayonnaise...and I got warped inside my house.

Cool a new SV thread!

I've been on Fall of Year 1 for a while now on Switch but I just haven't had as much time to play versus having other games I'm currently prioritizing. Been mostly focusing on my farm (chose the hilltop... may not be the best but I rather like it for the aesthetics) but for the second year I'm going to try and actually focus more on the NPCs. Really want to try and just take this as slow as possible so I don't get too burned out!

Just discovered that the modding community for this game is amazing. Can't wait to play this again with a fresh coat of paint.

I just wish more modders finished their portrait mods instead of just, like, doing the marriage candidates and then losing interest. (Which, like, I totally get burning out losing interest but...)

Loving it on the switch at the minute only issue I have is the cursor feels super sensitive with the right stick. It's so hard to hit the journal button

I put the Switch in sleep mode and put it in my backpack. My procontroller activated and made the game start up. It played itself all the way to Spring 27 before I woke up and heard it playing.
I've had that fear. I'll usually get up and do something around the house, fix a cup of tea etc, right after going to sleep/waiting for it to save. I realized that if I left the game running, without the prompt to show you earnings of the day, the game could theoretically go on forever, saving every night. Started pausing as soon as morning came to do those tasks, now. Sorry for your loss :/

So how does time work in this game? Is it like Animal Crossing, where you feel this horrible guilt if you don't play for a few weeks, or can you pause time somehow?

The more I dig into the game, the more I'm impressed by depth of the systems and the ability to play the game in most any way you want to.

I'm in spring of my second year and I feel like I'm a bit aimless at the moment

I need to wait for other seasons to finish the community center

I'm married

I got to the end of the mines and found the skull key

I'm at a point where what I need is more cash money or Iridium and battery packs to automate my farm. I have 6 lighting rods ready but Iridium seems tough to get.

Is there any reason to rush to the level 3 youse? 50,000 seems like a lot for a space I just fill with chests.

Lifetime Harvest Moon fanatic, just got the game on the Switch. On day 3, this looks fucking amazing. I chose the riverland farm, any advice for a SV newbie who may be stuck in old HM habits and controls?

Just hit my first fall season and have 12 high quality sprinklers racked up ready to make some serious bank. Hopefully enough to tie me over for the winter, buy some animals and housings and leave enough to plant a huge crop in spring.

I'm debating making another set of 12 but I'll be unable to grown any huge crops as they're all split in case any of these crops happen to be too tall to reach. Now I can't decide between planting my trees to the west, animals and scenic area South of the house or make a non automated crop below the others for huge crops.

So much choice, so little space used and so little cash available right now.

Don't forget your rare seeds (if you bought them)!! They're usually my main savings for winter :D
