Where's your Ballista here? Also soldiers do more damage than rangers. I do 1 Sniper, 3 Soldier combo for towers.

I didn't have a ballista, shock tower. I should have more shock towers...

..do Ballistas Pierce in a line? And yeah, only reason I go rangers is because they're cheaper in comparison..I'm still working on my early game stuff and expansion. This game is a fucking blast tho.

This game has gone from me seeing it for the first time here on ERA to being one of the top watched games on Twitch in no time. Crazy really!

Yes, Ballistas can take out 3 or 4 at a time and do large damage, which is helpful when those big fuckers come rolling. They also have a longer range than guard towers, and even better, you can eventually upgrade ballistas to Executors. Rangers are great for scouting and such, but on defense, soldiers do better.

Also, got to 120 days, but then another wave (CHRIST, those waves get big) busted through a section I only had one wall piece in. Map tricked me on that.

Also, spike traps are great and making them more manageable and also are upgradable with the Foundry.

I really like the concept of this but the negative steam reviews are brutal. Some of the complaints seem like difficulty whiners, which is whatever, I don't mind hard games as long as their arcadey and fun to retry continuously. The bad rng on map creation with you having to 'farm starts' for a good map, and the samey end game meta are really putting me off though.

Even if you played for dozens or hundreds of hours and felt it was one of the best games you played that year?

I started playing Dota 2 in November 2011. I think I put about 2000 hours into that game before it " officially launched" in 2013.

Still wouldn't have given it game of the year 2000 11, especially because it was still missing almost half of the roster, and we didn't get the whole thing until sometime last year!

They are billions is still missing the campaign.

Unfinished games do not deserve game of the year.

Eh, we'll have to agree to disagree. I think it's a testament to a game if it's already that engaging and polished and well-designed that it feels better than finished games. Game of the year is a reflection of what you played and enjoyed that year, nothing more; ideally, I wouldn't even have release date be a factor

It is not necessary to restart a map. Players farming for ideal situations like we don't have a sound grass of the game's mechanics.

The only real flaw of the game right now is that pretty much everything is self-taught. Game lacsa tutorial, or a campaign that would teach players those fundamentals. Right now the game is very sandbox Style, so a lot of things are learned by trial-and-error.

-----------------
I'm on day 92 of a 100 day map to. It is my first attempt at this map. Headed to work, but can't wait to get home to finish it.

I have four Titans clearing the fringes of the map, three rocket launchers posted at every wall, 2 snipers and 2 soldiers in every guard Tower, and at least two guard towers at every wall, two executors at every wall.

When The Horde countdown begins, I will start making Lucifers to slow down any wall penetration. Of course, I have about 15 golden Rangers to assist.

My base is ready.

This game is addicting as hell

Even if i can't survive 30 days on the easiest difficulty lol
Get those walls up fast. Don't worry so much about manning every tower early as the walls themselves are an early warning detection system. Also, restart bad map seeds. One had me a stone's throw from a group of infestion nests. Screw that.

Got to experience the final wave for once. That actually slows the game down quite a bit. Ha!

Loving the game so far. I enjoy figuring things out by myself, but I will say it takes too long with the default settings to get to the end, once you understand the mechanics. (only to have it all smashed :( )

I guess next up is lowering/adjusting the difficulty.

One thing I wish they'd add are fast forward buttons, similar to sim / Stronghold games. There are times where you just need to wait for stuff to finish building or producing the last unit and you don't have anything else to do.

oh man I made it to 99 days on like the easiest setting. I dunno why they decided to just super ramp up the wave I got but it was kinda bullshit. I wasn't expecting 4000 heavies.

Got my first win. Had to lower it to 'accessible' difficulty.

breezy gifted/cursed me with this. it's god damn addictive right now. if i didn't have guests over i would hella be playing this a whole bunch.

i didn't realise how crazy the domino effect of having them breach your defences is, absolutely insane. That first horde, I simply wasn't prepared...

Yeah, you have literally seconds of responding the second they breach the first wall or else you get overrun. Ive had the best scenarios ruined because one zombie broke through and infected a tent.

And glad you like it 8D its one of the more addictive games Ive played this year.

Oh man, this amazingly addictive game ate my entire weekend... but I finally... finished the first map at 100%. Yeah, I don't play too many RTS these days, real rusty. I know it's early access still but it could use a lot of additions. Squad formation move would help a lot. Also... after finally completing one, I would like to see the ability to return to the map and just close the score card without going back to the main menu (if it's possible it isn't obvious), just to see the full aftermath. Also a replay feature would be great. Will keep an eye out for QoL tweaks in the future.

I almost completely lost due to a 1 tile thick, 3 row long narrow passage... I had stone walls all the way down it, a tower at the end of it with 3 snipers and a gunner. A Thanatos at the base. And it still fell... Luckily it was close to a primary wall so the zombies flooded into the side of that but man, it felt close.

Oh and I hope decent diagonal gates/walls are coming.

second wave decimated me... i'm impressed their engine can handle so many god damn zombies. Destroyed by my own complacency. I thought snipers would decimate them... I was super wrong.

Need to get my offensive power and my defences way higher by them and maybe focus a bit less on optimising the economy... that shit don't matter if zombies eat all your farms

I recommend setting the difficulty to the minimum % required to unlock the next map.

You can struggle to finish the first (second, third) map at 100%, but the game is naturally designed to teach you fundamental skills in a progressive fashion, which will take longer for you to learn if you're losing a lot. And you will lose a lot with shorter map time and high infected density.

For example, the first map only contains a single Village of Doom. Map 2 contains one in all four quadrants.

The first map will teach you that you need to take out the Village of Doom(s) in addition to any infected around the map because in the final rush, they will all come to you. You have to manage this in between rushes. You use that knowledge and apply it to multiple Village of Dooms in the next map. And so on.

Lastly, it can become frustrating, or boring, being stuck on the first map.

Wow this game is amazing. Saw Dan playing it yesterday and bought it. Played three runs (which ended very fast) and for anyone who has the cravings for a good RTS, this is the shit right here! Polished and balanced.

This game has been on my radar for a week or so, but it's relatively expensive for what I'll probably get out of it...

Is there a multiplayer mode planned? I'd love to play coop with a friend and build a base together.
Are there more factions coming?

that tier 2 wave is crazy. I was still on wood and archers by that point and that is insufficient.

I'll probably reduce the difficulty a bit on the next try just to unlock the next map...

Ballistas

Invest in em. One or 2 ballistas is more than enough for the first couple of waves. They fire fast and do aoe if the enemies clump up.

Been playing for a couple days, got to the final wave at 100% on the first map but got rolled. Besides just general bugs and pathing issues I hope they work on making the mid-game less of a slog. Especially since it seems like RNG can have a sizable effect on you chance of winning in regards to resources available, defensibility of the terrain, and mayor bonuses, playing up to the midgame only to find you have a shitty map or bad mayors can be kind of a bummer.

This game might actually make my GOTY list for 2017 it's so freaking addictive. I love how brutal it is about everything too and there's a lot of strategizing to be had in it.

Does look really fun. I'm not big on early access but it's something i'll definitely look out for and wishlist on steam.
Thanks for the heads up.
I'm not fond of early access generally either, but the survival part of the game is pretty much 100% finished. It's just the campaign that's missing, but frankly if you told me it was a full release game I would believe you.

Got the end of 150 day map with what, 33% difficulty? Snowball's chances in hell are amazing compared to what I had.

As in, zero chance.

There's an entire campaign mode with a map to conquer and expand across, communities to help, characters and quests, etc, coming

Made it to the They Are Billions wave on the first map finally last night and man was I under prepared lol. I've been having a hard time getting enough gold in the mid/end game. Been learning a lot the last few days but man this game is still super hard.

How many houses should I have by the end of the first map? I've been keeping it around 40 but wasn't sure if that was too much or not enough? Is the gold problem pretty normal or am I doing something wrong?

Gold problem is normal till you start upgrading to cottages and get a bank/market going on.

As for houses....you usually always keep building them as the need arises.

I did really, really well (for a third attempt anyway). Good position, plenty of resources, lots of natural walls....and while I was building something I suddenly notice one freaking Zombie right next to my houses. No idea how that fucker got there. Done. Kept infecting all my houses within seconds. God this game.

I haven't quite figured out how to progress though, what is stone/iron for, is there like an Age of Empires "Progress to New Age" mechanic I'm missing?

Seems to be the next big streaming game. Watched a bit of it over the weekend and I'm pretty intrigued. Always wanted a RTS game that's a little more lenient on the skill side of things.

Yeah, most of my losses have come from a lone zombie that snuck pass my LOS and flipped a tent before the game decided to send an alert.

As for progression, there's workshops that you need to build which will let you progress techs.

something about the game's aesthetic really makes me want to pick up my command centre and slowly fly it to somewhere else on the map.

i wonder if this was prototyped in a starcraft map editor or something
