So, you've created a few OTs and you've figured out some cool stuff you want to share. Or maybe you're wanting to create your first and are looking for some direction. This is the thread where we can share design concepts, tips and tricks, or discuss the quirks of ResetEra. There is no right or wrong way to create OTs, so any input is welcome. Feel free to pick and choose whatever information you like, then head over to the |OT| |OT| to claim a post. Feel free to grab a spot here to use for your own OT drafts or experimentation. Any examples accumulated here can be valuable resources.

A Few General Guidelines:

Common Section Headers:
  • Release Information
    • Release Date
    • Developer
    • Publisher
    • Platform(s)
    • Price(s)
  • About the Game
    • Game Details

    • Gifs

    • Reviews
    • Pre-release press
    • Accolades
  • FAQ
Tips & Tricks:
  • The best way to preview exactly how your post will look is to edit an old post of yours somewhere, or you can make a dedicated post in this thread. The preview command when creating a new post isn't completely accurate.
  • If the post is no longer popular you can keep the information there to make it easy to edit from anywhere, or keep a text document on your PC to copy and paste from.
  • If you are collaborating, you can post a draft in conversations. The html can be copied and modified by anyone in the conversation.
  • Keep in mind that people browse Era differently. Design with both desktop and mobile in mind, and the light and dark themes, if possible, and preview each.
  • Pictures can be links - although there will be small spaces around the picture preventing seamless joining of pictures.
  • Overall, Era allows for much more stylization thanks to font size, color, and alignment control. Use these to your advantage to mirror the product's sense of style.
Sources for Information:
  • Official Websites often have Press Kits, DevLogs, and social media links, and can often give you ideas on ways to style your topic.
  • Steam Pages have official game descriptions, screenshots, and discussion boards that may answer common questions.
  • Social Media pages often have visual element that you may not find elsewhere.
  • Search engine settings can be adjusted to only show pictures with specified dimensions.
Resources:
  • Giphy - make your own gifs from youtube trailers
  • Online Image Editor - basic image editing, overlay text, or overlay multiple images and gifs
  • ScreenToGif - a simple program with a resizeable window that can create a gif from anything on your desktop screen

This is the post I'll be using to preview my rough drafts of the OTs that I'm currently working on. They're all under construction, so some of the details may be incomplete, and some of the links may not work. Feel free to peruse them for ideas, or just to learn about a few cool indie games.

I created a dozen or so OTs on the old forums, and am starting to work on my first few here.

Most of my OTs rely heavily on visuals, and I was really starting to streamline a visual format to my posts concerning the size of the visual elements. Thankfully most of the ideas translate here.

In an effort to provide a simple, clean look that works across both the desktop and mobile site, this is what I've come up with in terms of how to arrange visual elements:

Basically, you want to find a large number that is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. So 60 is the least common denominator.

EDIT: With the new themes and the wider margins on by default, I'm seeing pictures scale to a width of 834 pixels now. So the column dimensions need some reworking around the number 780.

Columns - Pixel Width
1 - 780
2 - 390
3 - 260
4 - 195
5 - 156
6 - 130

However, with the new theme update with the Max button, the numbers from the old method I was using display again correctly.

The simplest application is to use pictures that are 1020 pixels wide. Depending on the number of columns of content you want, you just have to divide by that number.

Columns - Pixel Width
1 - 1020
2 - 510
3 - 340
4 - 255
5 - 204
6 - 170

You could even get really crazy with the math as long as everything adds up to the total width. This all works really well if you want to make rows for screenshots, gifs, pictures with text, or any combination of those. The few issues are that it doesn't translate to mobile unless you edit the columns of images into a single wide image, and for larger resolutions the pictures and typed text won't align.

To avoid this, you can start with a larger number and apply the same idea, but you'll always have to edit each of your columns of pictures together so that the elements will scale properly regardless of which way people are browsing the site. If you want to be proactive and support up to 4k, you could scale everything as follows, but there are added issues with this if you plan on using large gifs.

Columns - Pixel Width
1 - 4080
2 - 2040
3 - 1360
4 - 1020
5 - 816
6 - 680

Long story short, math is your friend. If you work around a large number that is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, you can keep everything symmetrical like this:

RFTXbfs.png

The one quirk I've noticed is with spacing:
  • You can't post pictures on multiple lines without there being a small space between them.
  • You can't make a picture into a link without it adding small space on all sides. I played around with this last night, and found a way to still make nice rows, but it only works on desktop.
In both cases, you can no longer crop up a large picture and have it reassemble as a uniform picture.

If you want to provide links in the form of pictures you can subtract 6 pixels from each block to get something like this: (Note, this doesn't scale on mobile, so you'll probably want to surround them with a CENTER command to make it look pleasing there.)

Here are a few practical applications I've used this method to create:

Basically, you want to find a large number that is divisible by 2, 3, and 5.

Just a quick heads up, the lowest common multiple of 2, 3, and 5 is 30. So if a number is divisible by 30 it fits your rule :)

It's possible to rewrite your rule as, "Basically, you want to find a large number that is divisible by 30."

^ Noted, and added your reference. I originally compartmentalized it that way to denote that you could have 2, 3, or 5 columns, or the multiples of 4 and 6 as well. Now I want to see someone design a 30 column OT... It could have its usefulness like if they wanted the page to look like prison bars or a barcode and mosaic a larger picture out of each strip.

Haha, I look forward to seeing an OT with that.

Thanks for putting time into this resource, it's extremely helpful! I'll definitely use it if I do another OT.

Come on in, guys!

It's that time again. Twice a year, 16-20 Americans hit the beach for 39 days and test their bodies and minds as they compete in challenges and vote each other out with the goal of taking home the title of "Sole Survivor" and the $1,000,000 prize.

On Wednesday, February 28th, 20 new castaways will hit the beaches of Fiji in an attempt to outwit, outplay, and outlast each other using whatever means necessary to sit there at the end for a chance to win it all. For the first time since Survivor: Samoa (season 19), the castaways are not being sorted by labels (gender, hero/villain, blue/white collar, blood/water, millennial/gen xer, etc. etc). That said, the season will continue the trend of a theme that will bleed into every aspect of these castaways 39 days in Fiji.

For this, the show's 36th(!) season, Survivor will this time revolve around the concept of the fictional "Ghost Island," a twist on Exile Island that will pay tribute to the fans that have kept this show on the air for 18 years. Jeff Probst describes Ghost Island as the graveyard for Survivor mistakes past, and will test these new castaways to see if they can reverse the curse or repeat the same mistakes that came before. As always, expect big strategic moves, intense challenges, Shyamalan twists, and epic blindsides. It's always a good time to jump into the show, and YES - "this show is still on TV." Survivor still averages 8-12 million viewers per episode, almost always winning its timeslot, and sometimes the entire programming night. It's also known to be one of the most authentic reality shows on TV. They really do waste away out there to try to win big.

hYGzSZJ.jpg

Join us! This season, you can claim the title of SOLE SurvivERA. Join our uncapped custom league by signing up for free (using your username so we know who's who) at Tribal-Council.com. Click "Join Private League" when you first login and enter the league code: 91be9b8111bf1a76

Before the season starts, you will login and choose 8 people (you can keep making changes before the premiere) and then play 5 of those people as ACTIVE and BENCH the other 3. Playing is extremely simple and requires very little work on your part from week to week. For an overview of how to play and how the scoring system works, refer to this Reddit post by the site's admins.

9m9nD81.jpg

  • Ghost Island – The central theme of the season is also its biggest twist. Castaways will be temporarily exiled for various reasons to Ghost Island, which is littered with the actual "relics" or "talismans" of Survivor past. Not replicas. These items all share something in common – they have been misused in the past, leading to the in-game demise of some of Survivor's most legendary players. The exact nature of Ghost Island is being kept under wraps, but expect it to give an upper hand to players who use their time on it correctly.
  • Limited Supplies & Tribe Leader – The game will hit the ground running with each tribe asked to pick a tribe leader who will designate two members of their tribe to compete against the two from the other tribe picked in the same fashion for a reward that will give the players an upperhand in the game from the get-go. In addition, survival will play a bigger hand this season, as a much smaller supply of rice will be allotted to each tribe than the show has been giving out in recent years, forcing castaways to fish and forage who otherwise may not have.
  • Return of the Final 4 Fire Making Twist – The ill received final four fire-making twist from season 35 is returning. HOWEVER, this time the castaways were notified of the twist before the season, giving them the option to play around it if they so choose. This twist, for those not familiar, guarantees the winner of the final 4 immunity challenge a spot at Final Tribal Council, as well as the ability to pick someone else who will accompany them. The remaining two castaways will compete in a fire making challenge to vie for the final spot available at FTC.

Anyone have any guidance on GIF editing? I haven't done too much (or any) in my previous OT's at the previous place. I'm honestly not really sure how it works. I've only ever used those websites that will GIF a single youtube video, but I've no idea how to add text on top of that or anything. I can certainly learn the various website's features easily enough, but if anyone has any lessons they've learned or anything I'd be happy to hear them.

I've just slowly figured gifs out as I create more OTs.

Online Image Editor can do quite a bit despite some file size limitations. You can merge gifs and overlay text.

ScreentoGif
is a simple desktop program I recently found and started favoring to make and edit gifs to a certain number of frames or dimensions. It's really convenient because it will capture anything on your display and you can resize the window to any size you want. It's got some other editing tools, but I've yet to dig too deep into it.

If you've got Gimp or Photoshop, your possibilities are virtually limitless, but they require a lot more time to learn and experiment with. I just searched google and youtube for how to make/merge gifs and pieced together how to do some of the things I wanted. Each time, I still struggle with the process a bit.

Most of the time I end up making a piece of media that contains a few gifs in one. For that it is important to have gifs of the same dimensions and the same number of frames.

Hopefully someone can chime in with other easy options.

I should ask then what you actually use to create the images with multiple GIFs in them? I used GIMP to create a few single GIFs and that worked great, but I don't possess the technical know-how or apparent patience required to add them to otherwise static images.

When I started I was using the Online Image Editor, because it's really easy. I'd load a picture with the total dimensions and layout of how I wanted the overall visual element to look, then I'd drop/drag/resize gifs on top of it, and even add a layer over that if you create a photo with transparent sections. It can create some nice, fairly simple gifs. However the files it will play with can only be so big, so many times my gifs quality suffered or I was simply unable to do all that I wanted because it would crash.

I have GIMP downloaded, but I've never taken the time to familiarize myself with it since I learned on PhotoShop. Briefly looking at the program and searching for how to do it right now isn't giving me an easy solution. In fact, one website said GIMP isn't ideal for it. Of course, you could probably meticulously copy and past each frame, but for most gifs that would be tedious and time consuming.

In Photoshop, there are quite a few steps, but once you get the hang of it, you can quickly hammer out a nice gif. You can group each gifs frames together to avoid the clutter of many layers. Then you select all layers and paste them all over the top of your background photo. The process just repeats with each gif.

If you just want a longer single gif, you just paste the frames at the end of the first gif, whereas if you want them all to run simultaneously side by side you just have to make sure all the frames are highlighted in the target gif and use the option to past frames over the selection.

Here's the first example in a video:

You can always just add the individual gifs to your post and pick a width dimension from my 1020 pixel chart which should display fine on most desktops, but it won't look the same on mobile. I love that we now have a center command, because regardless of what size you pick, you can center everything in your post to create a nice layout, and that centering looks okay on mobile as well regardless of what elements you're including or how well they scale.

  • FAQ
    · Who is Team Trap?
Team Trap is an indie developer with four. They have developed some mobile games with the name Zibumi before and this is their debut game on Steam.

    · Why should I buy it?
If you are into platformers and looking for a challenging and mind twisting game, this game might just be for you. The swapping mechanic adds an extra layer of difficulty to the game and will mess with your mind!

    · How long is it?
The game has 100+ levels within 3 different chapters. It will obviously depend on your platforming skills but speedrunners might just discover a new challenge!

    · How come we have never heard of this game?
As mentioned, this is Team Trap's debut game on Steam and they are a small indie developer with almost zero budget for marketing :) They are self publishing the game and they are hoping to reach players through a good word of mouth.

Full disclosure: The game has been developed by my brother and friends. I really enjoyed playing their game and thought that I can help them a bit by creating this OT. I hope you guys would find it interestins as well.

ResetEra "Let's Watch Anime" OT1: Now Watching-

Banner:

The Goal of the "Let's Watch Anime" thread is to bring together "AnimeEra" with other members who can appreciate anime (yes, even "casuals") to watch a series together, then discuss and share our reactions towards it at the same time. Participation in each episode is appreciated, but playing “catch-up” by watching multiple episodes at once is normal as everyone has different responsibilities/time to watch anime. Just don’t post on future episodes unspoilered! The more posting about the series and it's events, the more beneficial it is to everyone, so please post up on the good, the bad and the awful; We are all in this together! (no hiding lurkers) We will have a new show selected to watch every two/three weeks and the genre will vary greatly. The shows that will be selected will have met the below criteria:

- Any genre
- The shows should try to avoid outrageous and/or sexually offensive themes
- Shows could be good, bad or possibly trash; let's find out together
- Recommendations are always welcomed and appreciated for future viewing
- Let's have FUN with this together! Please participate in the review and discussion!

Downunder.
I found alternating between the WYSIWYG and BBCode editor frequently will sometimes add extra unwanted tags, resulting in somewhat messy (and sometimes outright broken) BBCode. The end result is probably what Cornbread has experienced. Furthermore, the post previewer isn't exactly the best since it is not 1:1 with what will actually be posted. To combat these issues, I'm basically editing my post entirely in BBCode on a text editor, copy and pasting back and forth into the post composer to see the post preview without making any direct changes in the built-in editor.

It would be a dream if we can have a proper js-based editor such as TinyMCE or Ace installed to replace the default post editor.

Return to Arland with Lulua - the daughter of the beloved alchemist of Arland. Lulua is a story about lineage, inheritance, discovery, and the importance of familiy. In the town of Arculis, which resides just on the Arland Republic's frontiers, Lulua studies under the alchemist Piana. Each day, she pushes herself to master the art of alchemy with a clear goal in her mind - to surpass her mother.

One fateful day, Lulua is struck by a mysterious and ancient book that fell from the sky, crashing into her as if destined. Upon further inspection, Lulua learns that no other soul can read the writings within the book, thus spiking her impulsive and curious nature. With an ambition to surpass her mother and a dream to be a great alchemist, she sets forth to decipher the book and reveal all its secrets to the world. This will lead her down a road that will divulge the ancient secrets of Arculis, the Arland Republic, and the art of alchemy itself.

JrMJEp7.png

Exploration

Arland is a vast republic with myriad villages, ruins, and sprawling landscapes. Remnants of the past litter the land while civilization dots the map with varying degrees of progression. Throughout Arland, you'll find farms, caves, beaches, forests, hamlets, dungeons, and more.

Synthesis

Atelier Lulua's synthesis system has been evolved even further. While it's still based on the foundation that has been built over the course of the Arland trilogy, it also ties in some newer elements from the trilogies that came after it. New elements have been added, and players are granted a new degree of freedom with their alchemy. The traits, effects, and characteristics of the items will impact the result a bit heavier than previous entries, leading to new items simply from swapping around a few components.

Additionally, Lulua will be able to user Boost Items, which are one-time-use (per synth) items that can be thrown in to drastically change the item you are creating. The end result can be completely different, or you can boost the quality or effects on the item. It's possible to create items that would not normally be created with the materials at hand, so this is another method of crafting some of the more difficult or exotic recipes.

Combat

Atelier Lulua's battle system uses a party of five in combat. There are three attackers and two supporters, similar to the Attacker/Vanguard roles in Lydie & Suelle. However, Supporters are not bound to any Attacker in particular, and can utilize their support option once the conditions are fulfilled. New to the Arland series are Primal Arts, which are built through bonds with the characters. Primal Arts offer boosts to items, increase damage, and more. Primal Arts are passive skills that become activated based on the formation of your party once a battle begins.

Characters specialize in certain arts. Some characters can adjust the range of their attacks, while others focus on exploiting enemy weaknesses. As characters grow and level, more abilities will be unlocked that will help devastate foes and also unlock more of the mysterious Alchemy Riddle.

Also new to the Arland series is the Interrupt action, which will give characters a chance to use a pre-equipped item when it's not their turn. The item will not be consumed, so players can equip some powerful items and utilize the Interrupt Skill to break enemies, exploit weaknesses, or provide a desperately needed party-wide heal.

###Forthcoming###
qu0RLbT.png

Q. I've never played an Atelier game before. Can I start with this one?
A. You could start with this one, as each entry is a standalone story. However, it has links to previous games in the Arland series with many returning characters from the previous three games. The Arland series is not directly linked to other series, however.

Q. Is there a time limit in this one?
A. Not so much.

Q. Three season passes?!
A. Rather than cram everything into one season pass, Gust split it into three. All of the content can be purchase separately, but past characters such as Totori and Meruru are only playable if you purchase the individual season pass ($30~ each) or the standalone DLC (roughly $10 each.) It's absurdly expensive.

I have an OT I've been designing, and to convey the style I want, the DarkERA theme has to be enabled. Otherwise some of the text colors clash with LightERA.

After trying a few things, I finally had an epiphany and came up with an easy way to inform people to change their theme, while also making it much simpler than scrolling to the bottom of the page.

I created an image for each theme version matches the background of the desired theme but contrast the background color of the opposite theme. That way it is invisible if someone is already using the correct theme. [Note: They are both visible in this post because the background color is lightly off from the first post in a topic, and to check for accuracy in your topics you have to log out to stop your posts from being highlighted, but I believe it should work well outside of some very minor ghosting with the dark text.]

Then if you just right click the link at the bottom of the page of your topic where you select the theme, you can copy the link and make the image a link.

That way it will just redirect them right to the theme options then take them right back to your topic.

Feel free to use them, or create similar templates with your own fonts and styles by pulling the colors from them.

There could probably be some other cool applications of this, like purposely hiding text or just creating custom sized blocks to space elements differently.

This post is the same shade as the OP, so I think it should work here to give you a better idea.

Ta-daa! It's magic!

I assume this should work across all monitors and screens, but let me know if it doesn't.

Ah! Makes sense now. I was slightly confused until I highlighted to get this:

I wonder if an image with transparencies could also work...

Dark Hex codes
#333333
#3a3a3a

Light Hex codes
#ffffff
#f3f3f3

Might be interesting to have a small clickable image that follows the same method. I might mess with it.

It doesn't make much sense with both of them right next to each other, but normally you would only be using one. I put a modified one up in my Shape of the World draft where it makes a lot more sense.

The image backgrounds are transparent, because if you used a matching background color you would always an oppositely shaded box when viewing on the desired theme.

It does open the possibilities for a lot of experimentation with transparency. If you had a game like Infamous where the duality of the karma system was important, you could make things look different depending on which theme a person is using. Essentially you could have two different versions of your OT within a single image. Or just add your own Easter eggs. For instance:
tGPOUqM.png

If there's ever an Unfinished Swan 2 or another game that I want to create an OT for that deals with contrast like that, I may have a field day with the OT.

What's New?

  • Diamond Dynasty
    • These Stats Go To 125
      • For the first time ever, select stats will go over the traditional 99 cap to a maximum of 125. Not everyone will be able to take advantage of this new cap, though a few live series players do have some stats a touch above 99.
    • Immortals
      • These new cards feature some of the greatest players to ever grace the diamond. Each immortal will be the reward for quality play over the course of several months. At the end of it all? The Great Bambino. The Sultan of Swing. The Immortal Babe Ruth!
      • tlvcBPF.png
    • New Programs
      • Unlike other ultimate team modes, ripping packs in MLB The Show isn't a primary point of progression. New Programs at each position will have you earning usable players that will help you fill out your squad at a generous clip.
    • Create A Player Rework
      • Say goodbye to everyone's least favorite all-99 catcher, Big Daddy Dick! One of the most welcome changes for DD heads, the Create A Player is drastically changing. Instead of feeding your Diamond Dynasty cards to power up your CAP, you'll need to follow a program with several decision points along the way that will shape how your character plays.

  • Road To The Show
    • Performance Based Progression
      • In MLB The Show 18, Training Points will be automatically spent based on your performance in game. For example, hit well for power against lefties? The game will recognize that and assign you a boost to PWR v. L!
    • Player Archetypes
      • In addition to performance based progress, your new player will fit neatly into one of many archetypes with caps on each. If you're a hulking 3B who hits for 70 HR a year with a golden glove, don't expect to light it up on the bases.
  • Franchise
    • No Mode Like Retro Mode
      • You can now play Retro Mode-style games within Franchise Mode. If you ever wanted to play GM for your old RBI Baseball games, this is the way to do it.
    • A Cleaner Franchise Mode For the Future
      • It looks like the Sony San Diego squad took the old Franchise UI behind a shed. What we have now is a cleaner and much more user friendly interface you can use to rebuild like the Marlins. While some will be disappointed by the exclusions in this year's franchise mode, I think this year sets the building blocks for a Franchise revolution in the coming years.
    • Retirement Logic Rework
      • No longer will a 22-year-old, 96 potential up-and-comer retire due to a 'poor free agent market', nor will an older player with a few years left in the tank retire early due to being old AF, making your life as GM much easier.

I swear, I run into new formatting issues with this site so randomly and every friggen day.

So can anyone tell me why it will not give me the "no color" option in the below OT:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/ni-no-kuni-2-ot-welcome-to-evermore.30779/#post-5794822

I changed it to green, but it is still pretty tough to read for dark-theme users...

Highlight all the text and click the eraser tool in the top right. You'll have to redo the other formatting like underlining, but it will at least get you back to the default color.

And yes, there are some extremely annoying quirks. HTML tags tend to bleed over for me constantly so the eraser tool has become my friend. With the rich text editor, I'm constantly fighting lingering font colors, font sizes, alignment issues and links that try to go on way past their welcome or sometimes seemingly appear out of nowhere. Sometimes it's easier to switch to the HTML editor and just write stuff in that way, and remove unwanted tags.

Gameplay

Attack Types
Each of the characters in Adol's party has an attack type -- slash, strike or pierce -- which determines how much damage will be dealt to different varieties of enemies. Most enemies in the game are weak to one of the three attack types, while resisting damage from another. Players will need to switch characters regularly during combat to deal with these foes effectively.
Slash
Slash attacks are performed with sharp weapons such as swords or halberds. These attacks are particularly effective against soft-bodied enemies, but tend to bounce right off of armored or shelled foes.
Strike
Strike attacks damage the enemy with blunt weapons such as gauntlets or maces. These attacks are particularly effective against armored or shelled enemies, but tend to miss or do minimal damage to soft-bodied foes.
Pierce
Pierce attacks damage the enemy from a distance. While piercing implements generally deal less damage than slash- or strike-type weapons, they are particularly effective against nimble or flying foes.

Guarding
By pressing the triangle button, the active character will take up a defensive stance, allowing him or her to reduce damage and avoid knockback from enemy attacks.

Flash Guard
By pressing the guard button just as an enemy attack hits, you can execute a Flash Guard. A successful Flash Guard negates all damage the attack would have dealt, and temporarily makes all attacks from the player character deal critical damage and earn additional Skill Points. Mastering the Flash Guard is a must for advanced players, and is the key to surviving at higher difficulties.

Evasion
By pressing the X button, players can roll forward to avoid enemy attacks and facilitate quicker movement on field maps. Knowing when to evade and when to guard is a key skill for surviving boss battles.

Flash Move
By evading just as an enemy attack hits, you can execute a Flash Move. A successful Flash Move negates all damage the attack would have dealt, in addition to making the party invincible for a short time and temporarily slowing enemy movements significantly. When used effectively, the Flash Move has tremendous offensive and defensive value alike.

Attack Bonuses
Skill Finish
A Skill Finish is a bonus received when defeating enemies using skills. If an enemy is defeated with a skill, you'll regain 100% of the SP that skill required instead of the standard 50%, and minor healing items will spawn to help recover any lost HP.
Excellent Kill
An Excellent Kill is a bonus received when an enemy is defeated by the attack type it is weak against (Slash, Strike or Pierce). Enemies defeated with an Excellent Kill drop all of their items and gold instantly, without the need to attack their remains. In addition, they also drop rare items more frequently, as well as additional gold.
Aerial Combo
An Aerial Combo is a bonus received when an enemy is attacked after being launched into the air. This results in attacks dealing additional damage, as well as gold, SP and life energy bonuses.

Party Abilities
Rare Item Drop Rate Up

This ability activates when characters with each of the three attack types (Slash, Strike and Pierce) are represented. When this ability is active, enemies drop rare items more often, allowing you to gather rare materials for refining with greater ease.
Increased Damage

This ability activates when there are two characters with the same attack type in the active party. This party ability allows parties which lack one of the three attack types to compensate for that weakness, in addition to dealing more damage against bosses and other enemies that have no weakness at all.

Skills
Skills consume Skill Points (SP) to perform a variety of powerful or useful effects, from pure damage to a temporary increase in the party's attack or defense statistics.

Learning Skills
Each skill has a set level at which a character becomes capable of learning it, after which point it will be learned spontaneously during battle. The stronger the foe, the more likely a character is to learn a new skill while fighting it.
Skill Leveling
As characters use skills, those skills gain experience, eventually leveling up. Each skill can be leveled to a maximum of 3, and will become stronger with each level gained. The ways in which each skill change, however, vary greatly: some will deal more damage, some will stun enemies more easily, and some will even begin damaging enemies in a wider area.
EXTRA Skills
EXTRA Skills are exceptionally powerful skills which can only be used when the EXTRA gauge is maxed out. Each party member has a unique EXTRA Skill suited to different situations, and effective use of EXTRA Skills can easily turn the tides of any battle.
It is said that an accessory hidden somewhere in the Great Forest allows party members to use an even more powerful secondary EXTRA Skill, but its location is unknown.

Unique Actions
Adol
Adol´s Unique Action allows him to regain his lost memories by touching orbs of light scattered throughout the Great Forest. Resting at a camp marks the locations of nearby memory orbs on the Map of Celceta.
Duren
Duren's Unique Action allows him to open locked chests by kicking them. Locked chests usually contain rare and powerful items.
Karna
Karna's Unique Action allows her to use her knives to slice through distant objects, opening up new paths through the Great Forest and its many dungeons.
Ozma
Ozma's Unique Action allows him to strike cracked walls or damaged objects with his spear in order to destroy them (though it only works underwater!).
Calilica
Calilica's Unique Action allows her to activate specially-sealed switches and other mechanical devices, resulting in a variety of environmental effects (some good, some bad).
Frieda
Frieda's Unique Action allows her to dissipate gaseous build-ups out in the forest, clearing a safe passage for further exploration.

Reinforcing
In the smithy at Casnan, certain materials can be used to upgrade weapons and armor. Each material upgrades one of eight attributes, and each of these attributes can be increased to a maximum of 9, allowing weapons and armor to be made significantly more useful than when first obtained.

Quests
Each town Adol encounters during his adventures has a Quest Board, upon which various requests from the town's residents are displayed. Completing these quests grants specific rewards, including rare and useful items which cannot be found anywhere else.

Certain quests must be completed before a specific point in the story, and these are clearly marked, so it pays to check the Quest Board regularly.

The Map of Celceta
As you explore the Great Forest of Celceta, the initially blank Map of Celceta will slowly begin to fill in, recording the geography of the area as well as the locations of harvest points, stone monuments, towns and other points of interest. In addition to being an invaluable tool for reference throughout the game, mapping the Great Forest yields rare and valuable rewards from Governor General Griselda.

1.Q: What's up with people typing Y's?
A: Blame yourself or god.

2. Q: Can I start with this one?
A: Yes! Most Ys stories are standalone and this is no exception, however there is still an overarching lore and other threads or returning characters that make worth playing other games before this one

3. Q: What's the best order to play the series to understand everything then?
A: For this we want to play them in Japanese release order starting from Ys I & II Complete (but you'll likely be playing Chronicles instead). From there the order should be as follow
Ys I & II Chronicles
Ys VI The Ark of Napishtim
Ys The Oath in Felghana
Ys Origin
Ys SEVEN
Ys Memories of Celceta(this game)
With this release all of these are on Steam/GOG/Humble and with the exception of SEVEN can often be found on deep sales

4. Q: I heard this is a remake of Ys IV, how different is it from the original?
There were actually three versions of Ys IV before this one and each made by different developers other than Falcom resulting in different takes on the story, gameplay and soundtrack.
The first version, Ys IV: Mask of the Sun was developed by Tonkinhouse released for the Super Famicom in November 19th, 1993 in Japan
The second one, Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys was developed by Hudson released on the PC Engine in December 22nd, 1993
Years later, Taito developed a new version of Ys IV for the PS2 titled Ys IV: Mask of the Sun -a new theory-

Compare some of their Music with Memories of Celceta's

Mask of the Sun - The Great Forest of Celceta https://youtu.be/LHzVAP2aLS4
Mask of the Sun −a new theory− - The Great Forest of Celceta https://youtu.be/75JamDhIkkM

5. Q: What difficulty should I start with?
If you're used to playing on Normal on other games it might be good to start this one on Hard as it is on the easier side of things
If you're more experienced definitely give Nightmare a go!

6. Q: I don't understand the OT title!
A: https://twitter.com/gematsucom/status/667439756586967040

7. Q: What is this blasted cat abomination?
A: It is Mishy, Falcom's mascot, love it and embrace it

Yeah, probably a good idea. My post alone is probably killing page loads because I like to go gif and image heavy and have 7 drafts running. You know you have a problem when you have to dance around the 30k character limit.

If you did anything noteworthy with your design that you think could benefit others, feel free to make a new post explaining it and including an example.

Set in a world reliant on a mysterious ancient technology known as Blastia, Tales of Vesperia follows former knight Yuri Lowell as he delves into a shadowy plot to use these magical devices to control civilization, or destroy it. Yuri has been given a mission to retrieve a stolen Blastia Core used to regulate his neighborhood's water supply. This simple mission spins into a series of events that finds Yuri befriending a colorful cast of characters, traveling to exotic locations, and being pushed into the middle of a nefarious plot that threatens the destruction of the entire planet.

Karol Capel
  • Japanese VA: Kumiko Watanabe
  • English VA: Julie Ann Taylor

As a native of Dahngrest, the young boy has a deep understanding of the work required to run a guild, but a lack of self-confidence has resulted in him being kicked from many of them. This cowardice contrast with Karol being appointed as the leader of the recently formed Brave Vesperia, a group dedicated to promote justice.

Karol fills the strong but slow role in combat, as he prefers to use large weapons like axes and hammers.

Patty Fleur
  • Japanese VA: Chiwa Saitou

The young pirate joins the party while looking for both her memories and the fabled treasure of a legendary corsair. The childish girl also also makes her debut in the west since she was added as a playable character in the Japan-only PS3 port of the game.

Proficient with guns and knifes, Patty can summon characters to help in battle, and also has a variety of skills based on chance.

Raven
  • Japanese VA: Eiji Takemoto
  • English VA: Joe J. Thomas

The shady old alcoholic is the oldest member of the party, and is first seen talking with Yuri about the blastia thief he was looking for at the start of the game. Since he joins the party in pursuit of his own interests, the rest of the group is highly suspicious of him.

Although he has seen better times, Raven is a versatile fighter that primarily uses bows, prefers wind artes and can heal allies.

Great topic! I'm going to make a post here for my Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker OT, so I can test it out somewhere. I still have to create the individual graphics, but I'd rather store all the other information here instead of a Google Doc.

Figured out another fun tweak: customizing link colors.

If you want something other than the default link color, you can choose another color with a little work.

The one thing is that you can't highlight the entire link to modify the color. Just select some of the characters, apply your desired color, then select the remaining characters and repeat with the same color, or another color.

And to avoid the default underline color, just add underline tags before and after the link description text

Make them as crazy as you desire.

ResetEra Review Thread by Loudninja

IGN- 8.3 | Even with dated graphics, EDF 5 is an energetic essay on action game design that is way too much fun to miss – especially with friends.
Gamespot- 8 | Its huge battles are a joy to watch play out both from up close and afar, and the wide variety of weapons and play styles with each player type offers plenty of reason to come back for more after the final bullet has been fired
GameInformer- 7 | This series has always had a single-minded commitment to one simple truth: It's fun to use weird weapons to blast lots of aliens.

FAQ New Players
  • Why EDF?
    • EDF is made in the vain of older games that prioritize fun. It boast a massive content selection that can be fully played offline either single player or split-screen as well as online with 4 other players. With a cheesy B roll sci-fi story you will fight in 110 missions to save mother Earth from her alien invaders
  • Whats up with the graphics?
    • Instead of really detailed beautiful environments, the game uses the power of the systems to crank up the enemy count making each battle a crazy fight. Ever wonder what it was like to have giant ants, spiders and robots swarming you? Now you can find out.
  • Is there previous games I can checkout if I am unsure? (YES!)
    • EDF 4.1 - PS4 and PC
    • EDF 2 & EDF 2017 VITA
    • EDF Insect Armageddon, 2025 & 2017 available on PS3 & Xbox 360
FAQ Existing Players
  • Weapon pickups now give weapons for all the classes rather than the one you
are currently using. Priority is given to the class you are currenly using.
  • Picking up a duplicate weapon has a chance of increasing the weapon's
capabilities such as increasing its ammo, damage, rate of fire, range, etc.
  • Armor pickups apply to all classes rather than just the one you are currently
using. However, the armor gain is not equalized as only the class you are
currently using will obtain the full armor value.
  • You will keep a certain percentage of armor and weapons picked up even if
you failed the mission. The percentage is as follows: Easy 100%, Normal 75%,
    Hard 50%, Hardest 25%, Inferno 0%.

[For more of a background on the first game's story, here's a good pointer]

In 2072, when Earth, Mars and Jupiter's moons have all been colonised. a full-on assault by military force BAHRAM is led upon Jupiter-based colony Antalia to secure two highly power mecha units known as Orbital Frames under the names of Jehuty and Anubis.

Leo Stenbuck, one of the few civilians to still be alive, comes across Jehuty after being pursued by BAHRAM forces and takes flight in it alongside its onboard computer AI, named ADA. Along with several accomplices, including friend Celvice Klein and Elena Steinberg of the UNSF (United Nations Space Force), Leo goes through the game trying to save as much of Antalia as possible from BAHRAM, led on the ground by Viola and her own Orbital Frame, Neith.

Towards the end of the game, after several battles with each other, Leo defeats Viola once and for all. Viola is subsequently killed when a bomb goes off and takes her into Jupiter's atmosphere. Nohman, the commander of BAHRAM, then appears in the much superior Anubis to fight Jehuty, but Jehuty subsequently retreats.

Leo gets Jehuty to Elena on the civilian transport ship Atlantis, but ADA warns Leo that when Jehuty is taken to the fortress known as Aumaan, it will self-destruct. Which brings us nicely to...

Two years after the events of the first game, in the year 2174, Calistan miner Dingo Egret discovers a deeply hidden Jehuty on the Jupiter-based moon Calisto just as BAHRAM comes to attack and seize the mecha for themselves.

At the start of the game, the play as Dingo fights Ken Marinaris and her Orbital Frame known as Ardjet and Viola (albeit, an AI Viola) and her Frame, Neptis, before facing Nohman and his Frame, Anubis. These events are the set-up of The 2nd Runner. They can also be played through a demo released on PS4 and Steam.

The biggest addition to this new release is that the game can be played from start to finish in VR on both PlayStation 4 and PC via PlayStation VR and SteamVR. You'll be able to play it in real-time rather than merely dashing from one zone to the other ala DOOM VFR. In addition, the game will have a feature where you'll be able to view mecha from the game up close and personal in virtual reality.

ZoE2 has also been significantly overhauled to support 4K with visuals and the art design looking a lot more polished and cleaner from even the 2012 HD Collection as a result.

It will also include a new modern control scheme for players, although the classic control scheme from before is still in for veterans.

Even though it actually isn't my favourite game of all time, the way I talk in reverence of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner on here, social media and back when I first joined the 'old place' back in 2012 just before the release of HD Collection makes it sound like it is. And for good reason.

You have no idea how much I adore this game, from the original PS2 version to the HD Collection on PS3 and Xbox 360 to now seeing it not only on PS4 but for the first time on PC. I genuinely can't wait for everyone to either play it again for the first time ever.

To veterans: promote the crap out of this game if possible. Buy it. And maybe, MAYBE, we'll get to the promised land of a third Zone of the Enders again - even without Kojima. Or at the very least, a CyGames-made remake or remaster of 1 (it has been mooted!).

To newbies: welcome to one of the best mecha games ever made. Frankly, welcome to one of the best hack 'n' slash games ever. Enjoy the game is all I can say. You'll hopefully see why a good few of us want a ZoE3!

Special thanks to TheMoon for assistance with renders!

This is my first proper games |OT| on here and really first proper |OT| overall factoring in the old place besides the rush job I did for Life is Strange: Before the Storm because no-one had nabbed it for the OT. And when everyone migrated over here, someone else brought the thread over.

Anyway, thoughts? I think all things considered, its come out okay, but would ideaily like the boxarts to be the same size, but I'm not very good at trying to bring them down XD

I understand people like their clean visual elements and transparent PNGs, but so many "best read on light / dark theme" banners and "looks bad on mobile" comments could be avoided by using a set background, I feel. I used a textured red background for my Yakuza 0 OT, so that way everyone who sees it will be looking at exactly the same imagery, with no text or pics blending into anything else. Worked out ok, so will likely do the same for Spyro in November.

Also, if anyone needs help making visual assets, feel free to PM. I'm no Photoshop pro, but I'll give it my best.

An alternative is to use SVGs. Can either be with no background or with but allows for both mobile and desktop width versions and native (non image based) text. Can't detect external stylesheets when embedded in img tags (eg: if the dark or light theme is active) but with the right text colors can provide an equal look for all themes.

I posted an overview of this in the OT OT topic. The Distance OT is the first to utilize such methods that I made to also serve as an example of some of the possibilities. Can be much simpler though, as a lot of the code in my case is accounting for browser differences.

Figured out another fun tweak: customizing link colors.

And to avoid the default underline color, just add underline tags before and after the link description text

Make them as crazy as you desire.

This is a good tip since the forum's stylesheet usually overrides most attempts to create custom colored links.

Hm, is anyone getting an error trying to preview their post or save changes?

It's asking me to do a captcha, then drags me to a JSON screen with just piles of code. I wonder if I broke something.

Upon further testing I've reason to believe it may be due to the number of images. :::think:::
