The user was warned for this post. The OP hasn't said a word about XMB. Don't create strawmen to dismiss valid points made by a fellow user. Argue in good faith.
If you have trouble like it stalling out and then jumping around, do a hard reset. Hold the power button in for 10 seconds or so, then unplug it for 15-30 seconds, plug it back in and go through the longer reboot.

The rest of it is either wrong, like the capture stuff, or just being unfamiliar with it. There's really no 'problem' with the UI - it's just different from the PS4, which seems like a real problem for people who are used to it. It's a different piece of hardware, it has a different UI...adjust to it.

I swear to Christ some of you must get in your car and just scream 'WHY ISN'T THIS A CROSSBAR UI? WTF!!!!'

It's ok. My main gripe is that the games and apps section should really be the focus of the front end.

Its gotten better but it's no where close to the 360

Click down once and hit A - you're in the dedicated games and apps section. How is that not focused enough? The last game/app you used will be highlighted when you start, with a giant splash screen of it on the screen.

I like the ui.
The month that I used the ps4 with the baby, it felt clunky. Never quite fit used to it. Different things for different players?

The recent player might not have been found due to their privacy settings.

I thought about that as well. But I had played a lot of players before I met that guy that didn't show up either. Last recent players met showed it was 17 hours ago, not the players I had played with minutes ago. Seems odd for that many people to have their settings set to that, unless its the default settings that most probably don't adjust. And I waited for some time for it to update because I know its a while to update.

The only point I'll give here is Upload Studio, that app is absolute trash and has been for a very long time. Also takes forever to open, edit, render, upload etc etc... feature-wise it's lacking and somehow makes quality much worse. They need to do better there.

I can't agree on the rest though.

I've had the Xbox One since 2014. Only just got the PS4 a year ago. I think I'm well adjusted to it. Again, I've made note of not being aware of certain features regarding capturing gameplay footage. But as I said, I usually don't set it to record for an hour in anticipation of some moment in gameplay, I usually only record with the "Record That" function, which only has a maximum duration of 5 minutes, from what I'm looking at right now in Preferences > Broadcast & Capture. And come on, Upload Studio is bad. Do not deny me this opinion.

But technically, my complaint regarding the 5 minute limit on recording after the fact, is still quite valid.

And perhaps I do yell at my car. Maybe, maybe not...

It's crap. And just when you get used to its crappy layout, they roll out a new crappy Lay out.

I honestly order the blades of old Xbox 360

My Switch can't even party chat without using a smartphone.
I know. The OS is still the fastest and cleanest of them. There is nothing you can't find in a matter of seconds. You probably were talking about the number of functionalities as well while I wasn't. Obviously it will get slower with more things getting added over time and maybe even more cluttered (though I don't believe that.)
and it helps that there aren't many games for now where party chat is required lol
For now it's just wonderful to boot up your system in 2 seconds and starting games in the same amount of time. PS4 for example is a slog compared to that.

Yeah, I'm having severe issues with the OS, though I've gotten a better hang og it in the day that I have owned the system. Pinning is a pretty powerful tool, but I have no idea why tings are as slow as they are.

I've always felt like anyone defending the Xbox UI or saying they've never experienced glitches are either liars or haven't actually owned one (or are the luckiest gamers in all the land). I've had 3 xb1s and they've all had serious UI issues, from running slow the randomly glitching out, to many apps just feeezing and not working. I even had to return a different Xbox one s with a faulty Blu-ray app that would squish the image to 1/4 of my screen even despite a factory reset.

There's some random quirks and serious quality control issues on this thing.

The switch really doesn't do anything to be fair. No messaging, no party's, no achievements, no media.
Well yeah there being less features surely helps it being as clean as it possible gets. Doesn't it have Hulu by now though ? And I really don't get why people want these things on their console so badly anyway when they already have 3 devices in their home having them. It's a platform for gaming and it's really fast for that.
No messaging is the only one I would call an actual detriment, though at least I don't get spammed by bots like on PS4 lol.

Well Netflix on Switch would be great with the offline download feature it has these days.

The Switch does exactly what a console OS should do- it lets me get into my game within about a second. I'll take that over everything else.

Oh I would have nothing against that. And I'd be interested in how much slower the OS will get with Netflix and VC getting a thing. But that isn't a priority for me. That's actual gaming.

Strange how it seems to have varying speeds for people.

Yeah no. Did you ever have a Switch in your hand? That is just clean, snappy and fast.

Switch doesn't have enough features or functionality to really compare it 1:1.

I mean, when you have to put down your control and grab a cellphone to do something I could do on another console with a couple button presses or a voice command... I dunno.

Eh.

Now that I'm starting to amass more games on my Switch it's getting annoying having a single column of games. The PS4 has the same problem but at least you can make folders.

I can't move content from the system to the SD card.

Still uses friend codes.

Play activity feed is essentially useless and light years behind XBO stat tracking.

Party chat?

Messaging?

Sure it's snappy. I like the quick menu when you hold home down to adjust brightness etc but overall the UI is incredibly barebones.

Switch UI is the best UI. Minimalist af.

It does nothing? The PS4 UI is by far the most cohesive and mature UI in gaming. By a landslide. The Switch is like something from 2004 lol. You all are tripping. No shit it is minimalist AF. There is hardly anything there.

Xbox has gotten better, but when I had a One I didn't really care for it.

Exactly.

That's weird, because I get into games within one second on the PS4 too, but I suspect some Switch fans don't actually have another system.

And you'll also take a barebones, nearly useless UI because you get into games at the same speed as any other random UI? What it is you are having trouble with on any other system? PS4 is basically one button press and game starts. It's not any worse or better than the Switch lol. Yet it has 10x the features.

EDIT: These experiences are based off of my use of the original Xbox One. I don't know if other versions are any better.

It's the same. I have used the OG and One X with the latest update, didn't notice anything different between the two machines.

Yeah no. Did you ever have a Switch in your hand? That is just clean, snappy and fast.

Switch OS in its current form is the worst in comparison.

Damn I really dind't want to derail this thread. I'll just stop responding after this post.

I really doubt that will be their solution going forward. And I simply never used that thing, don't have the app installed. I got discord for that.

Eh.

I think after a certain point it becomes more than one column. It's strange though they didn't let you sort it how you want like on 3DS.

You're right about the content moving. I bet that's still coming.

I added one friend through that. Rest I got through playing Splatoon. There are other ways than friendcodes by now.

Yeah I also don't get why they went with that. 3DS activity log was fine.

I got discord for party chat but sure.

Messaging is something I miss but what I don't miss is getting messages from bots.

It being barebones doesn't nessecarily have to be a detriment though. The OS' main job is to play games first and foremost and it does a really really good job at that.

I'd really like to not derail this any further though. Sorry for that OP.

I do own a PS4. Nice arguments you have there man. I won't answer any of this any more because that's not what the thread is about. Like at all.

This thread would have made a lot of sense years ago, hell I kept my Xbox One in a box out back for a year because it was so slow. These days though it's fast and the UI is great. I feel a lot of people won't be happy with it till Microsoft makes an exact copy of the PS4 UI people use more often.

Some of the complaints like trimming and editing video are very warranted though, but they're improving GameDVR editing in a future update thankfully. Which is the best thing about Xbox One's OS, it's so incredibly feature rich and I also think that's its biggest problem. It has so many features and it can be difficult to present those to a newcomer without overwhelming them.

Console ui has always sucked (and it's not like it's any better on portables or the PC). The only good one was the gamecube.
Switch UI is really good because it knows to get out of your way. Really barebones, I will give it that.
PS4 UI is... not the best, but it's organized logically, and on the whole things don't take too long to get done.
Xbox One UI so far feels like a culture shock, but I've been fiddling around with it and I am beginning to come to terms with it, so we'll see where I land with respect to it.

My Xbox One S is brand new, my PS4 is four years old. The Xbox One S is not faster than the PS4.

Then you should treat them better, because the Xbox has been faster since 2015 with the OS revamp,

xDHxCIk.png

and the newest one is even better, so yeah, it's faster indeed.

Yeah the UI of the ONE is an intuitive mess for me, and I had had one for 2 years now, and that's after the UI of the 360, the best UI of a console, IMO.

Yeah xbox one ui is very hit and miss , the only thing I liked was the pinning. Everything just felt very slow to do compared to the PS4. Switch is deifnately snappy but it lacks features so it's not even a contest. PS4 is deifnately the fastest but can use improvements. It would go Like this for me PS4>Xone>Switch and switch last just because it lacks features.

I just traded in my OG XB1 for an X yesterday. The X feels better and faster overall but it's still clunky, I can still feel a tiny delay when navigating the menus and I've had to press buttons twice a few times. I was really bummed when I sold my PS4 and got a Pro a few weeks ago only to find out the menus on that are actually worse than the base model. I don't understand how these mid-gen upgrades could drop the ball at the OS level.

The UI is a lot better these days but is super dependent on internet speed. The fact that input response can lag is truly unforgivable to me in a console UI.

As others have mentioned, no real speed problems on my end.
With that said, it is a disaster of a UI in my humble opinion.

I thought the UI was terrible when it was in preview, but I like it now. Only thing I can agree with you OP on was the difficulty at finding Recent Players. Other than that, it's fine. Pins work and it is the fastest UI that's been released.

So, these topics come up periodically. Your UI performance is contingent on which Xbl servers you're connected to so YMMV. Mine is supremely fast and I've demonstrated as Such on old site but can't find my bid atm. But bottom line, performance is contingent on servers you're connected to.

It would be cool if the OS were like the menus in GT Sport, where you can jump from menu item to menu item, as you would expect, but can also freely move a mouse pointer around using the analogue stick. It's probably nothing we'll ever see on a console, because that feature would probably accentuate the "consoles are just PCs with outdated tech" perception, and drive some people into realizing that what they really want is a PC, and not a console.

If I remember correctly this test was proved false... the PS4 seconds are ridiculous high compared with the actual speed at least.

Or do you really believe it takes 17 seconds to sent a mensagem on PS4 since release lol

This is INCREDIBLY dated and outright false, with absolutely no information regarding how these tests were performed. It absolutely does not take 17 seconds to send a message on PS4 LOL.

I mean how long are you allowing to type the word Hello? If you aren't even counting that a message can be sent in under ten seconds on PS4 easy peasy.

I only have a PS4 myself, but I was talking with my cousin the other night who has a XBO and he was complaining how bad the UI was. He's not a super hardcore gamer so I was sort of surprised it was bad enough a more casual gamer would complain. Just my anecdotal experience.

I like the PS4 UI well enough. It can still hang sometimes when bringing up the list of video apps or the profile page for a game. PS store is way better than it was on PS3 though.

That is why I believe a lot of users has slow response...

But I can't blame users complain because it is not their fault at all... a good UI can't rely too much in server response time.
