Regarding the recent performance - battery degradation debacle:
https://www.apple.com/iphone-battery-and-performance/

Addressing customer concerns
We've always wanted our customers to be able to use their iPhones as long as possible. We're proud that Apple products are known for their durability, and for holding their value longer than our competitors' devices.

To address our customers' concerns, to recognize their loyalty and to regain the trust of anyone who may have doubted Apple's intentions, we've decided to take the following steps:

  • Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, starting in late January and available worldwide through December 2018. Details will be provided soon on apple.com.
  • Early in 2018, we will issue an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the health of their iPhone's battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance.
  • As always, our team is working on ways to make the user experience even better, including improving how we manage performance and avoid unexpected shutdowns as batteries age.
At Apple, our customers' trust means everything to us. We will never stop working to earn and maintain it. We are able to do the work we love only because of your faith and support — and we will never forget that or take it for granted.

Regarding the recent performance - battery degradation debacle:

Solid response from Apple, but jeez, yet another unexpected emergency iOS release that will divert resources away from things like iCloud Messages.

At this point I'm expecting iCloud Messages to be delayed to iOS 12. It was my most anticipated feature too :(

Huh, glad to see I'm not the only one seeing their battery not last as long all of a sudden. Past couple of days I've had to put it on charge after about 10 hours.

So i got my iPhone X and I think I'd like to get a wireless charging cradle mount for my car. Ideally it'd be something with as small of a footprint as possible and magnetic too (fine if i have to put a plate in a case or whatever). I prefer vent mount but could do dash or windshield mount if it was a better product. Any recommendations?

iCloud sync iMessages. You could backup and restore your iMessages from the cloud. It was in a dev beta for 11 but removed before the public release.
It was pretty nice, I was able to start fresh without losing my messages. It was supposed to return but we haven't heard shit about it.
Did it also back up and restore regular SMS texts?

When I was visiting the family, my mom dropped my iPhone X onto concrete. Time slowed down and I think my life briefly flashed before my eyes. Fortunately the Apple silicone case did its job, but a nice chunk got taken out of a corner. If it had been naked I probably would've had a shattered screen and a big dent.
This worries me since it's only a matter of time until I'll drop it.
Have dropped my old iPhone 6 several times, but with it having no glass back it still mostly looks fine. Using a case of course.

Lmao at threatening to use Android to solve battery problems. Alright, man. You do you.

Are you feeling threatened? Not meant as an ultimatum nor meant to be funny. Venting frustration with this current iteration of iPhone/iOS. Not up to par with what I've been used to with every past iPhone i've owned.

My local Apple store hads AirPods in stock, so I ordered a pair online. The dates for finding a set were mid January after selling well during Xmas, checked randomly and some stock was available.

Can't wait to try them out!

I got some for Christmas, been very impressed so far. I think I'm getting lint and stuff in the case from my pocket though lol, need to figure out the best way to clean it regularly.

The X is easily the most scratch prone iPhone yet. Why do they lie and say it's more scratch resistant?

Also where the fuck is the Twitch app

My 8 Plus which has the same glass scratches easy af as well. I think they advertised it as "most durable" and not "most scratch resistant" though...

I believe they said it was the most scratch resistant glass ever or some such nonsense.

My 7 which has been through hell has 100% less scratches than my X which is babied and barely 2 months old.

Bad job Apple.

For $1200 I wish they used the sapphire crystal used on the SS watch. Glad to see it's not selling well and their stock is tanking. Maybe make a quality product if you want people to buy it.

Haha, what? It's outselling both the 8 and 8 Plus individually, just not both of them combined.

Man, wireless charging is the business. No more lightning cables just set it down and its charging. All they need to do is work on the memory issues and this phone would be perfect.

I would love to see a picture of these scratches btw, because mine is pretty flawless and I would love to know what to look out for.

Also, tanking stock looks like this now...

Turns out I have been doing graphs wrong for my entire life.

The Mail app refreshes are maddening when you wanna get quick info from an email for safari. I hope they fix these memory issues because it's not the business rn.

Grab an Android phone and let us know how much better your battery life is.

Pixel 2 XL battery life is phenomenal, actually. I wouldn't use anything than stock Android. I swap between iPhone/Android so often and can get well over a 24 hours compared to less than 24 with the same amount of useage. So many good phones out there right now! First world problems.

I use Android plenty, too. I'll take the occasional iOS hiccups over the rogue Android app battery wakelocks.

Same, I'm aware of the downsides of sapphire glass (brightness, brittleness) but for the asking price I really wish they went with it. Chances are the gorilla glass derivate they use now will shatter anyway if you drop the phone, might as well have a very scratch resistant and premium glass while it's intact.
I guess that ship has sailed for the next few years though.

I would have happily paid the difference. I love the SS watch material that I can hit against literally everything and it will never scratch. For the price premium I wish we at least had the option. My X is covered in scratches and I haven't dropped it once.

Where did these even come from?!

I don't have a single scratch on my X, but sapphire is probably why I'll have to spend more on the SBSS Watch instead of getting the Aluminum model. Sucks.

I've converted to the dark side and now using the darkEra theme. But is there any way to (in portrait mode) change the address bar at the top to disappear or darken too?

On my 6 I had slight screen burn from that top bar through browsing over the years.

Seriously, post a pic, I am legit surprised at your experience of scratches, mine is pristine.

The only way to get a dark address bar is to switch to Private browsing

Same. Mine has been caseless since release day and I don't exactly baby this thing and there's no physical marks at all.

I had my first bug where I needed to restart the phone. The bottom (Home) bar disappeared from my screen and I couldn't quit any apps. A reset fixed that. First reset I've had to do in the month of owning the X.

Also copped me a pair of AirPods, very nice.

I'll keep an eye out for the lint lol.
I managed to pick them up and super happy that they fully stay in my ears no matter what I try! The EarPods were usually feeling like they'd fall out... must be the wires pulling em.

On the lock screen, I have a weird line about half an inch wide, right below the batter/wifi indicator... what is it?
