Doing the Rito quests now and it's reminding me why I loved this game in the first place. I'm really digging the shrines and the quests. It's easy but pretty varied. I just really missed hearing the "Shrine Nearby" jingle. Just hearing it now fills me up with immense joy.

The best thing this DLC has done is giving shrines in areas that desperately needed it.

I loved this DLC. It starts out pretty mundane but just keeps giving and escalating. The extra work done to the Champions is so satisfying.

Hallelujah! I finally got the "of the wild" clothes set. There were 2 hidden shrines I had never discovered. Really well hidden and I thought I had found every shrine for months now. Feels good. This is as close to 100% BOTW as I'm going to get.

Playing through a new file and got to Hudson.

The first time you get that dramatic goodbye scene with the Tarrytown jingle, I remember how everybody was like "wtf that was like a really heartfelt sendoff for a random npc"

XD

Finished the DLC a few days ago. It was honestly pretty disappointing tbh - felt like it was largely busywork and only a handful of the new shrines actually had interesting puzzles. I still enjoyed it for the most part though, if only because the world itself is so much fun to revisit.

With that said - the extra dungeon was easily the best in the game, and that final boss was amazing.

How's the DLC overall, now that it's all out? I've just beaten the first DB, and I'm trying to decide if it's worth me picking up the season pass.

If, after defeating all four divine beasts you decide you want more gameplay like that, The Champion's Ballad is literally that and probably worth it. The Master Trials are also good fun, particularly if you enjoy Eventide Island.

How lenghty is the dlc? I'm at 85 shrines, all divine beasts, most sidequests. I think I'm ready to take down Ganon but I wanna do the story dlc first.

Edit - referring to the new story stuff. Not the challenge levels
I mean, ultimately it's all the same thing right? The Trial of the Sword is a bunch of new levels that reward you with power ups on the Master Sword. The Champions Ballad is a bunch of challenges + new shrines that reward you with power ups for each champion skill and a flashback cutscene, and it ends with a brand new dungeon and boss. The Champion's Ballad is probably going to take most people 10-12 hours to complete. There are 6 parts of it, and each part should take about 2 hours. In total there are i think 16 shrines you must complete, a dungeon, and a total of 5 bosses but only 1 is brand new. There are also challenges you need to do in the world to unlock each shrine. There are 5 fully voiced cutscenes which are very well produced.

I beat the DLC yesterday, the bike is a lot of fun to use, but unfortunately I don't really have anything left to do in the game lol.

Me neither but i can't stop playing the game after i got the bike, it's too damn fun to use. I think i'm gonna use the DLC armor set quests as an excuse to play a bit more.

Well the trial of the sword seems like a much more.monimal effort to me with no cutscene reward.

I just don't know what I'm gonna do with a stronger master sword. Defeat Ganon faster?
A free standard sword at 60 power that regenerates over time is never a bad thing to have.

I mean, it falls into the same place as the Master Cycle Zero of "well, I wish I had this before beating the game" but it's there for replays at least.

Your problem is that you're looking at the Sword itself as the DLC. I said the TRIAL of the Sword was the best. I'm in it for the gameplay, bud.

As an aside, I love having the powered up master Sword all the time. The only thing I miss is it suddenly lighting up when evil shit it nearby.

Wow, I didnt even know this came out! So in spoiler tags, is the dungeon a traditional dungeon or is it like an animal dungeon? How long is it? Thanks!!

It's.. kinda like 4 shrines linked together with a central room and a beast-like mechanic
It's not super long but the puzzles are not easy so ymmv, the boss is also good

I played both DLC packages over the last five days. I thought the Trial of the Sword was reasonably fun--better than the typical Zelda "cave of ordeals." The Champion's Ballad, on the other hand, was a disappointment. Two of Breath of the Wild's weaknesses at release were repetitive content and a lack of full-fledged dungeons. So for this final DLC they gave us
... more of the same. To be fair, some of the new shrines are good, and the new divine beast is alright. But this was a chance for Nintendo to address a problem in the base game by condensing a bunch of shrines and some combat scenarios into a proper dungeon and slotting it somewhere in the middle of the game to add a pre-Hyrule Castle obstacle for players to build up to
. And if I have to sit through one more awful Kass poem that doesn't scan...

I feel that the design of Champion's Ballad clearly informs us that the team does not see the lack of "real" dungeons or the reuse of existing assets to "fill" more content as weaknesses or flaws. They see them as cornerstones of BotW that they can build on. So there's that. I do feel a lot of us hoped for something different with the DLC, but got more of the same. I loved BotW so even disappointed, "more of the same" was pretty fun. But yeah.

You're probably right. I also loved BotW and look forward to Nintendo iterating on the formula. I'd just hoped that iteration would involve injecting a little more drama into the game--major tests of the player's equipment and abilities (if not traditional dungeons, then at least something more than the divine beasts), with clearer world-state changes to develop the player's connection to the various regions and their plights/recoveries.

The first time that piano jingle plays and Hudson walks off is brilliant. It immediately jumped out as music I wanted to hear again.

I disagree entirely. It's DLC. Not an entirely new game. People that were hoping for something substantially different from the base game were looking to the heavens when they should've been looking at the forest so to speak.

I hope they find a way to integrate the trials of the sword-style challenges into the main campaign in the next one -- you see it again in the boss fights in this DLC: limited load-outs, more of a puzzle focus, bringing things back to how it felt on the plateau. you really need to work for and care about resources, and using them correctly is a puzzle in itself.

I have been playing BOTW quite regulary again for the last two weeks and was tempted to finish the two last dungeons to start the DLC. And as much great things I heard about Hyrule Castle, I was told that the DLC Boss is actually.... well... more interesting than Ganon.

WITHOUT SPOILERS: I need recommendations. What should I tackle first? Hyrule Castle and Ganon or this DLC and it´s Dungeon?

Thanks, guys and gals.
i'd just do ganon last. all the dlc is written like you haven't fought ganon yet, fwiw.

Coming into this DLC after really just starting this game this month and immediately getting into it after the 4 beasts, makes it come across as quite filler-ific. Maybe if I had put this game down for months and was just now coming back it would be a nice extra, but all these permutations of shrines is just, bleh. Individually themselves though they can be interesting.

Coming to accept that I blanket dislike story DLC. I feel like Champion's Ballad provides no incentive beyond making an-already invincible Link more indestructible and gumming up a good story with needless shrines.

Trial of the Sword and Champions' Ballad both make the game feel more complete. They don't feel like stand-alone content, but they flesh out what's available in the base game. I think Trial of the Sword is more functional because it can be completed before finishing much of the game. The reward for Champions' Ballad is less useful, but it's a fun toy all the same. I'll be spending more time with BotW once I finish both DLC packs, so the content is useful to me.

Wish I had more time to put in. Still don't have that powered up master sword. Haven't even finished Ganon since completing the divine beasts. BotW might be my desert island game. I'm nearing 700 koroks now, and I've cleared maybe 40% of the treasure chests on the world map. I have a lot more exploring to do. The master cycle will help me do that.

As much as I've enjoyed BotW, I would be fine if the next Zelda was a little less massive and ambitious. I thought I wanted something even bigger for the first 150 hours or so. But I've been satisfied. This is the best video game adventure I've been on. It's occupied my free time for months, and the prospect of losing that much time again in the future is almost scary. Something more tightly packed and less time-intensive would fit better into my life. Wonder if I'll feel the same by the time the next one rolls around. Wonder if I'll even be finished with BotW. Haven't tried master mode yet.

This one hit kill BS is ruining the DLC for me

Yeah it really gave me a bad first impression but it only last for 4 shrines, then it gets normal again and the 12 following shrines and the new dungeon are worth it. I really liked most of the 16 new shrines, some are quite clever, particularly the divine beast.
I expected a new story and a classic dungeon but this DLC was as good as the main game, just more BOTW.

So I did two trials (Revali + Mipha) and I don't think it's fun at all, just more recycled stuff. Is it worth it to force my way to the new dungeon + boss or should I just stop playing? I loved BotW when it released and played well over 100h. But I got the feeling that I had enough of this game for now and months to come.

The remaining trials are not going to change your mind. The new dungeon is,
really just four small shrines plus a boss fight. It's fun, but the puzzles don't really build on or interact with one another.
So if you're not having any fun so far, I'd say you should stop.

Just picked up the DLC a few minutes ago. Now I'm wondering if I should dive in now or finish Skyrim first.

That second round of DLC was the most satisfying game addition from Nintendo I've played since FE: Awakening.

I just had to get over the one-hit stuff with a well-thought approach.
