Not just based on this recent confusion and back-and-forth, the OT claim window will move to a six-month-window from now on. This will avoid sooo many problems for all parties: delay chaos, hype claims, bans, keeping track of release date announcements ("year" to "quarter" to "month" to "delay" to "actual date"), people forgetting, overly long list, people losing interest, including newer members, and probably a bunch more. Goes for everything tied to release dates. As usual, random community threads don't even really need to be claimed but those who still do it can do so whenever as dates are a non-issue there.

Everyone is free to take personal notes on what OTs they would want to claim so they don't forget. Besides, it's not like anyone starts working on them a year out lol.

Can it be a six-year window please so I can claim Beyond Good & Evil 2?

Now announcing:

Early Access OT Claims. You can claim a claim. But only if you send nudes. To someone else. Not me. Please no.
this is obviously a joke but ....just in case lol

Sounds good, with all the right arguments!
Does it include Catherine? ;)

edit: does it applies to import threads too?

Catherine's "Winter" frame is too vague even for the old 1-year rule.

Imports:
It's February, the Japanese version of game X comes out in October. That's a no-go.
It's May, game X still comes out in Japan in October, Western version comes out in February the next year. Go nuts with a claim for the Import OT.

If I may make a small suggestion: replace the image in the OP that shows how to find the URL of a post with an updated one that says only to click on the post number. The teeny-tiny problem with using the full URL directly attached to a post's date or number is that, with the exception of the first 50 posts, any such link is going to be invalid for those using a different PPP setting. The shorter URL that's returned when you click on the post number redirects people to that specific post regardless of whether they use 50ppp or 100ppp.

oh what they're different?! that is such a weird UI quirk, damn. I've had that problem with a buddy who wanted to link me to a post but he had the 100ppp setting and I didn't.

thanks!

edit: oh wow, you have to LEFT CLICK on it! I was confused because I tried right clicking again and saw the url was the same but left-clicking brings up a pop-up with a permalink! this seems too hidden for the average user, honestly. should be the default.

With kind permission from TheMoon I am temporarily moving this thread to the ETC due to an overabundance of stickies on gaming side. More balance should be better for everyone.

I'm making an OT for Gravity Rush 2 on request. Would it be okay if I posted it in the video game section, as it will probably be buried pretty quickly otherwise? If not, that's fine.

This might not be the right thread to ask but is there a way to pin specific OT's of game threads to the top? Currently I bookmark any threads I'm interested in.

"Watch Thread" (top right of any page under the "new reply" button).
That's what the "Watched Threads" menu bar thing is for next to the FAQ at the very top.
This didn't work. I watched a thread but it didn't appear at the top in the gaming forum. When clicking into the thread it says I'm watching it too but not really sure what difference that makes? Also there are threads at the top of that forum that I'm not even watching such as a Dragons Dogma community thread.

I don't suppose this is the place to request a community OT on custom game boxart? There was a loose one on the old board, but I'm not sure what protocol there would be about just directly linking to the Dropbox collection of covers and templates there?

Guys how do I pin something to the top of the gaming forum? I have tried watching a thread but this puts it in a seperate list of watched threads where you have to go into a menu to get to. I have the dragons dogma community thread pinned to the top but I have no idea how this even happened. I must have done it myself as I like the game.

Pinned threads is something staff can do so people take note of the threads in that section and they're readily available.
You can't pin threads. You can watch them and then they'll always appear at the top of your watched list.

I was wondering: Would a LP subforum work on Resetera? I think it would drive membership up and could cross-promote our member's Youtube channels too. We could set a base standard of quality expected from screenshot, video, or hybrid LPs where you couldn't do things like dump all of your already-completed LP links in one post, or produce low-quality video content with poor audio mixing, etc.

The user was warned for this post. Don't be this unnecessarily aggressive and antagonistic towards your fellow users.

what is a Denver OT, let's start there maybe

old shit, nobody cares about. if you're posting it in five minutes, I don't care about it either.

Denver is a city in the United States, like San Francisco but still smaller, the thread would be for people to talk about everything revolving that city, even ask questions about it

Of course I know Denver the city ...but with "Detroit" being a 2018 game, who knows what you mean when you say Denver OT :P

That's just a thread you make. It's not an event, game, movie, anything that's "released." That should've been(?) covered int he OP.

This thread isn't really the place for discussing this. Besides, this is what LTTP threads are sort of covering. Everyone is free to post these already.

----

I've added this bit now at the top of the OP, btw. I hope that makes it clearer now what needs to be claimed and what doesn't.

Upfront
You do not need to claim threads that are just random threads about a thing or an issue or an idea. If you want to post a Salami OT, or your local bathouse, or about jaywalking while cosplaying as a pixel art frog, just go ahead and do it. No need to go through this procedure. Same goes for already released games/products. If you have an OT ready to go for something that is already in the past, you do not need to claim it either as there is a super low chance someone was working on the same thing. This is for products/events/media releases that are tied to release dates and follow a certain pattern. Claiming OTs is a measure to avoid conflict and multiple people putting work into elaborate threads on the same thing. In general, follow the rules about creating threads found in the Resetera General FAQ at the top of the page.

Thanks a lot, it's really more clear about it, since I had this issue some weeks ago :)

So I'd I do a Denver thread, don't put OT in the title ?

you did read about the updated guidelines, though? :)

six months out, release dates with sources, no guesstimate dates! the other one is fine (if you add a source link)

I read through the OP, but I didn't see anyone else using the format. Guessing it's a new update.

I updated the Shape of the World post with the Steam Page (or there's a PlayStation blog post that states Early 2018).

I thought The Pedestrian had an estimated window. On Steam and it's official site it still says 2017 since the original window was June 2017. No biggie. I just spent a fair amount of time on the design, so in the extremely rare case that anyone else thought of working on it, I wanted to let people know I had a plan. I usually only tackle smaller indie projects that would fall through the cracks otherwise.

Thanks, just repost the Pedestrian claim once that has a new date narrowed down to a maximum of six months out.
