Let this be a(nother) lesson to publishers:

If you want to win on a Nintendo system, you have to make games for Nintendo players.

Congratulations to FDG Entertainment!
I've been feasting on indie games with the Switch.

So many games to buy.

The trailer is so good, more 2D Zelda is always appreciated and this seems to be a particularly well made one.

I mean this game is clearly designed for Zelda fans... So yeah. Switch owners also keep track of what is about to be launched on the eShop, and all.

Great game btw. I love it.

Which still means less than 5 000 but yeah

People didn't even seem aware of the game or the steam version's existence

That is a dope looking Zelda-like, but some of the enemy designs are lifted directly from LttP, it's kinda weird.

(Is this the one where he dev decided to make the game for his daughter?)

Not really surprising, had 0 marketing at all on Steam. On Switch, people like Schreier were talking about how great it was.

It's a surprise and shame that it sold that badly on Steam to be honest. Seems like a good game. I'll give it a shot if/when I get a chance!

I've never even heard of the game. Judging by the only 50 reviews on Steam I'd say probably no one has. The days of just releasing something and hoping for the best on Steam couldn't last forever.

On the topic of sales on Steam vs. Switch:

Steam has a game discovery issue for small indie titles like this. Switch has a proportionately small library compared to Steam, so it's much easier to find these smaller titles.

Looks like a competent Zelda clone but the character sprites just look aweful.

It helped that Kotaku ran a story about it on launch day saying it's a great Zelda-like.

I was like whoa, that's great, but then I saw the steamspy figures... I mean, good for them, but you could probably sell more than the 2000 or so on basically any platform? It's a really low figure.

It still has over 350 games as of now, so it's not like its easy to see all of the games out for it. Obviously that number is several orders of magnitude lower than on Steam, but it's not a small number in the grand scheme of things.

Not accurate. If you wait 40 years and then check steamspy it'll show that the PC version had long tail!!!11

So a lot of Steam users say there is nothing wrong with the glut of games appearing on Steam everyday and that the visibility issue for many indie developers is not a problem. But when it is announced that a Switch version sold more than Steam, despite having tens of millions more users, they are argue it's because the Switch's library is much smaller. So doesn't that prove that there's a visibility issue on Steam?

They are a small studio. First trailer of the game had <1k views for some time. These are great numbers for them, specially considering it is a port.

Considering I never knew this game existed before the Switch release, I can see why.

Yet another example of how toxic the current state of Steam is for Indie developers.

Says more about Steam's shit curation really.

Yeah, true.

Great for the team. My first time hearing about this game. Trailer looks pretty cool and I might grab it. But man, such a blatant Zelda rip off. I feel like they just took the assets and made some modifications of their own. Yikes.

Also, kinda funny that we now have low steam sales used as a way to promote a game.
What a time to be alive.

Can't say for sure. Did a quick Google search and found nothing. I do remember a game called Chibi Knight being made for the Dev's child, so that might be the game you are thinking about.

True.

As the Switch library grows, I think we'll see smaller and smaller returns for indie games on the platform. But right now, they put every single game that's coming out on the platform on the same standing in the eShop Coming Soon page. That level playing field helps a whole lot.

I feel the same and usually hate clones but if done right, I sometimes let them pass.
This one looks done right.
