The irony of the lack of content (tracks) is that I have a newfound love for the likes of Brands Hatch and Interlagos, that if the track roster had have been larger, I wouldn't have driven them so much.

Really need Spa though.

Plus I'd kill for some long-ass point-to-point tracks like California Highway from Project Cars.

Yeah my thoughts too though to be fair they've promised 50 new cars before march, hopefully they've just picked those 2 to show that it's not all race cars... More tracks would be the bigger thing for me, hopefully we get the best real world tracks along with some old favourites.

Yeah, true, it'll be nice to have some of those classic sports cars in the game. Would be nice to get at least one new track in the update. Unfortunately I'll be out of town to see my family this weekend, so I'll be pining for a few days.

Saturday is the anniversary of the launch of the original GT so makes sense as a day for the update to drop, especially one with cars like the RX7, R32 and R33!

I initially came out here on a contract 4 and a half years ago with my wife. We only planned on staying for the duration of my initial contract (2 years) but things went well and we witnessed the UK gradually falling apart from a distance so we decided to stay. I now run my own business here (last month marked the 1st year anniversary for it) and it's going well enough for me to not be rushing to go back to the UK. Hence I can stay up till the early hours of the morning to race with you guys on a Sunday and not suffer for it the next day, there's nobody to tell me off for having a bit of a lie in once a week :)

Ugh, I know a lot of people love these zany vehicles but they do nothing for me. I want more proper race cars!

Update is coming on Friday apparently. I'm intrigued to see what the new tracks are.

What line of business are you in if you don't mind me asking? Here in the UK the stuff we tend to hear about Dubai is people getting locked up for doing something in public that they shouldn't. Nice that you are your own boss :-)

I seem to just be racing Brands Hatch at the moment - had this hectic race in the FIA thing last night.

Then had two more in the daily today which have knocked my SR back down to A :-( Some people seem to have perfected the door slam pass where they get by without a penalty whilst I got either pushed off the track in the braking zone or got a ten second penalty for a guy who didn't want to concede I was alongside him, turned in and went off the track :-( And the missus fell out with me as I wasn't paying enough attention to what she was saying while all this was going on :-( I look forward to our Resetera races more than anything else at the mo.

:( Trucks and buses (and VGT fantasy crap) are not why I bought GT Sport. I bought it to race real sports cars and race cars. Releasing a microbus is the kind of thing I'd expect them to drop as a fun one-off two years down the road after we have a big stable of great racing cars.

Dw we getting the JDM as well. I can see a good racing series coming from it.

Every contact the occurs in the video you posted seems to be initiated by you. I'm confused because your complaining about side slams but what I saw was you doing that by moving into the lane being held by the car you are passing, causing side contact or otherwise forcing them into the grass.

I could only play one FIA race tonight so I chose Brands Hatch over Alsace Gr.4 simply because I didn't want to deal with 20 laps of Meganes driving like maniacs. And that's sad because Alsace with Gr.4 cars is one of my favorite tracks, but that's what the Megane has done to that group. Brands Hatch with Gr.3 is a wild ride every time. It's so easy to push a bit too hard and get one wheel into the grass and spin...well at least with the Ferrari it is. I really should get off my Ferrari kick and drive something a bit more stable.

I'm not talking about side slams in this video just showing a manic few laps around brands, I touched 3 cars and none of them were heavy contacts and I certainly didn't force anyone onto the grass.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, I look at the record table and if it's all Meganes then I just don't bother.

I'm giving up on online play. Japanese drivers never, ever, get penalised for dirty driving. Worse is when they shove you off track you get a penalty.

The penalty system doesn't seem to even kick in till perhaps the 2nd lap. I've been punted off the track from someone divebombing into the first few corners of a track on numerous occasions without any penalties being awarded. Just seems inconsistent since they tweaked it

Guys what would you recommend I do? I've got a Driving Force GT for my PS3 and obviously it doesn't work with the PS4 and GT Sport. Has anyone had any experience with a DriveHub and can recommend one, or should I just upgrade to a better wheel?

I think wherever you drive you tend to get certain nationalities that seem a bit more dirty - whether is cultural, national rivalry or just coincidence I don't know. From my experience here it does tend to be Spanish drivers that don't want to concede a place or going for divebombs more often than other nationalities. As I mentioned in my post above (and not shown in the vid!), the side on contact method seems to be the way they get away without a penalty (so dive up the inside and get the car slid into you door to door to push you wide).

I'm not exactly clear on how it works at the moment, sometimes you get an orange triangle to show you've had a negative SR sector and sometimes you get text as well - is the text that you have got a negative score or the other guy? I'm guessing you get the text when it is the other guys fault and shows you what affect it has had on their SR (never had much more than a quick glance at it when it pops up).

As the first lap is where it gets hectic and you're most likely to have some contact I can understand them turning it down a bit but of course when people discover this they'll take more liberties knowing they'll get away with it.

I did a test last night to cool down after my Brands Hatch experiences, rerunning our endurance event but without using hard tyres. I could still do the event in 1 stop but it was much trickier and I fell off the track a couple of times where I misjudged the tyre wear. The mediums managed 8 laps to my pit stop but the lap times had dropped from a 2:10 to 2:16 by then. Soft tyres managed the 7 lap stint just (front right was completely red as I went through the chicane on the last lap) and the times went from 2:09 to 2:17.

For reference for me the hard tyres would start at 2:11 and finish around 2:12/2:13.

So as the lap times have dropped by 6 - 8 seconds per lap by the end then there is a case that a 2 stopper would actually be quicker, especially as a tyre only stop would be in the 20 second region instead of the 30 you have with refuelling...

I've had the numbered SR reduction once for clattering into someone that broke extremely early.
Im guessing its a more severe penalty than the normal triangle.

Never had a race in the red so it is hard to tell how it effected my final rating.

Any news about GT League? Or is it not happening in 2017?

Afaik we only got the confirmation of the next batch of 12 cars coming to the game. December 23rd would be the huge anniversary day, but it's a Saturday and I don't remember any updates being added to PS Store over the weekend in the past. They could prepare the big patch for download earlier and just make the new content available on the Saturday, in that case we have today and tomorrow left.

My guess is the bolded part below refers to the GT League update, so it looks like it's coming tomorrow. Saturday, the real 20 year anniversary day, is probably not a day where they can do a store update, so it will be tomorrow instead.

At the following time, we will perform maintenance on the 'Gran Turismo Sport' servers.
A new game update will also be available after the maintenance.

Please note that during this time the online services, including [Sport Mode], will not be available.

Thanks. At least something to look forward to tomorrow. I hope they add some festivities to some of the scapes like they did during GT5 days.

I'm not saying Japanese drivers are dirty.
I'm saying I keep getting t-boned off tracks by everyone from Singapore to Auckland but when it's by a Japanese driver I'm consistently the one who gets given a time penalty.

I had an infuriating time on the Brands Hatch daily yesterday.

I'd slow correctly for the first hairpin, someone shunts me and I get the penalty. I was getting battered everywhere and I'd get the time penalty and a reduction in SR. Last lap someone divebombed me, I dropped from 4th to 16th, got a penalty. Divebomber didn't receive any penalty.

I think Brands was definitely my worst experience online so far and has kinda soured me on Sport mode. That and the pointless Gr.4 category. And it's a shame cos when folks are driving correctly, it's a wonderful experience.

Yeah I've been feeling how you are a couple of times before now, then you have a good night and everything is good again. The GR4 situation needs resolving soon though as I'm sure many people are boycotting those races as we're talked about. Brands has a lot of high speed corners with very little margin for error, that hairpin at the top of the hill thats a divebombing hotspot, plus it's very tricky to pass as it's narrow and you haven't got a big straight. I guess all these factors add up to make it a bit of a nightmare online. I have had good results on there but usually starting from the front, you can make a lot of places up as people do tend to have accidents, but you can often get caught up in them too and if its the wrong place at the wrong time then you can lose out bigtime.

Did the TT daily at Alsace last night, was actually one of those rare good races. Qualified in 4th in a field of A-D DRs, moved up to 3rd quickly and somehow held it despite a battling with a car the whole time. If I'd had another lap I probably could've grabbed 2nd.

The orange triangle means you got penalized, and the red text is there to tell you when the other person got a penalty. I'm not even sure what that text says because it's so small, but that's how PD explained it when they added it a recent update. Bad UI choice on that; who has time to squint at that tiny font while racing, especially when you were just involved in an incident? Should've just done some icon, their name, and the penalty time, and made it big enough to see.

Thanks for doing testing on the tires!

Nice one on the Alsace result, I really like that track but it's very easy to push just that bit too hard and run wide on one of those right hand corners at the start.

Yeah it's really not easy to see what the hell that collision text is telling you - it just isn't much help at all as it is.

And no probs about the tyres, I think it'll shake things up a bit next time we do an event if we do go that way. Oh and just noticed the UK / US spelling difference too!

Yeah, racing clean with complete strangers always reaffirms my faith in humanity just a little bit. A nice palette cleanser after that Brands Hatch race. Oh and the bit I always have trouble with on Alsace is that final downhill jog. In the Gr.3 cars I tend to go too hot and throw out the back. In that TT you have to absolutely floor the brakes the whole time or you're into the wall. Fun car to drive though on that track.

Yeah, I'm down for the tire limits, should shake things up even if the race turns into Tokyo Drift. And hah, yeah some jackass American back in the day decided that British spellings were Much Too Silly and was basically singlehandedly responsible for some of the inconsistent American spelling variations we have now. We still use rye, but not tyre. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Huh, I might actually get in some time with the update before I have to leave for the holidays. Don't let us down Kaz!

Driveclub works perfectly, obviously the wheel isn't as good as the new GTs

Ps if your in the UK and want a Driveclub pm me, I went down both routes!

Did the FIA Gr.4 race on Suzuka which felt more like a war zone than a racetrack. Only got one lap out of qualifying that didn't involve being bashed and rammed several times, so I started in 15th. McLaren in front me braked early on the first turn of first lap and ended up skidding off. I was at 18th and spent the rest of the race clawing my way back. Meganes and Vettes bumping me and general fuckery from everyone. I think every lap I passed a multi-car crash. Somehow I stayed mostly on the track and ended up 10th. Damn Megane finally got ahead of me on the last lap and I barely beat a BMW nipping at my tail, but I'll take it. Felt good after getting screwed on the qualifying. What didn't feel good was people bashing me or straight up veering into me out of control and I was the only one that got a penalty. I also had a side bash during qualifying from a Cayman that sounds like what Shannow went through -- pushed me off the track, driver got no penalty and I did. I thought the penalty system had gotten better, but I feel like it's getting worse now? Or maybe people are exploiting it better.

Looking forward to this update, will check it out in the morning. Didn't have much time to play today, but I did get my daily workout in. Some really messy races on my part, bumping and slamming into folks because I didn't manage my brakes all that well.

Just did the first race of the Sunday Cup and there's a car handicap bonus you can get which will make things fun. Also an opponent had custom decals/wheels so that's neat.

God how cruel to launch the single player update I've been waiting for simultaneously with server downtime so I can't save lol.

Great though - doesn't look like there's a ton of content but it'll do for now. Hopefully they keep supporting it with new races, cups etc.
