Figured some of you might get a kick out of this. Not sure if posted, but here's a browser game that's a 2d version of Battle Royale called surviv.io. http://surviv.io/
Fun little time waster.

On topic, after buying this at launch and getting a refund a few hours later, I decided to give it another shot since I felt I didn't give the game a fair shot the first time around and I'm enjoying it now that I know exactly what to expect. The laggy, sluggish controls felt better the second time around. I guess the servers were hit so hard at the start it made the controls seems worse than they really are or something. They still need work though along a ton of other stuff, but there's still an enjoyable game in there. Managed to get to #2 last night which was pretty cool. Was just happy to last that long.

You feel like you earn your kills, especially over long distances with single shot mode. Engaging the enemy is both scary and hype lol

Got a buddy to buy the game last night so I could try Duo.. wow that's a whole new experience! So much fun being able to talk shit during the match, but still super tense when we both hear footsteps outside.

Managed to play 8 rounds, got Top Ten 4 times.. but no Chicken Dinners for us yet. Is 4 player Squads a lot of fun too? Worried about grouping up with random people..

I wonder how much of this is handled server-side as opposed to client/console-side. You definitely notice more issues when the lag creeps in. I'm just not sure how pervasive that is.

I become visibly nervous once that counter gets to 10...

Here are a few that I've gathered
  • LB for a speed boost in vehicles
  • LB for holding your breath while ADS
  • Use the start/hamburger menu button for inventory and looting instead of wasting time picking up stuff individually
  • Using the above tip, you can automatically attach stuff by using A instead of X
  • While ADS w/ holo or red dot, hold RB + use L-stick to increase/decrease brightness of the sight
  • Hold Y to holster/put weapons away so you can melee/sprint faster
  • Left D-pad to change firing type (single/burst/auto)

So when I'm in a house with weapons on the ground and stuff in general it's better to press the menu button? Man I am going to try that out when I get home.

I tried PUBG on my bro's TV, a Samsung KS8000 or 7500 I believe and the HDR is perfect in the game. Not too dark at all, while it IS overly dark on my 65B6. Da hell?

I think I've gotten used to the HDR. Not the best implementation, not the worst.

And yes, the inventory screen will show stuff in your proximity. It's way more efficient--at least I think it is.

I have a Samsung JS9500 (1 year earlier) and the HDR seems fine. I can see into the back of the delivery plane/etc. The dark shade areas ARE dark, but they look like shade. The dawn or dusk time frame makes it harder to see, but I assume that is on purpose.

love seeing the Xbox players figure out the meta after nearly 1000 hours on PC.

Today's patch + turning off broadcasting really improved things for me on the Xbox One X. The HDR and controller does make it feel like a new experience, can't wait for even more improvements.

Is broadcasting on by default then?

Whoa boy is this rough. Frame rate in the single digits rough. I haven't tried turning the dvr functionality off and I haven't played since the latest patch, so I'm hoping those things help.

Yeah, I'm not sure how all that stuff works, but it definitely feels better the second time around. I still sometimes get that laggy feeling when I get rubberbanding like I was last night, but when the game officially went live for those first few hours I was kind of shocked how terrible it felt to control at all times. That Crowbcat video was pretty spot on with how it felt. It was the main reason I asked for a refund. Whether it was the servers somewhat stabilizing or something else they changed, I'm just glad it feels smoother now and I hope the controls are a top priority for the team.

Somewhat relatedly, the parachuting has felt better for the past couple of days. No idea if that was a hot fix somewhere or what.

You got a OLED as well?

Seems like the Samsung telly's don't have the problem then. I checked to see if he was using hdr game but it seems that's the only hdr mode anyway, unless I didn't look correctly for it. Maybe I'll up the brightness in HDR Game on my B6, see if that perhaps helps.

I'm going to ask for a refund and spend my money on Cuphead instead. Game runs like ass on the One S. I just don't see how they can patch and fix this with the limited CPU available. I'll hop back on if (when) it gets fixed.

Same, it seems really neat.

Bummer (and good choice w/ Cuphead). As things progress, livestreams are probably one of the better ways to check into it, especially smaller ones where you can actually get some direct feedback from the player.

Before disabling DVR, would you mind grabbing some clips to share? I'm wondering about what areas are causing the more serious performance issues for others. It'll automatically populate on xboxdvr.com, so you don't need to manually upload anything. The default for recording the last 30 seconds retroactively is super useful for catching weird spikes and a bit of the time around it.

Wtf? That's wild. I have like 60 hours on PC and had no clue about that.

One note though, you run the same speed empty handed as you do with a pistol or melee weapon. ;)

Now I gotta ask, are you getting hit with lag spikes or is there actually something going on to cause the framedrop? I think people are conflating the two.

This is basically what I tell everyone as well, you pay for alpha/beta on the xbox, just wait and hopefully they can fix it.

Cuphead is great, can't go wrong.

They've made some massive improvements to the PC Test version that goes live tomorrow. The current live version is unplayable on my old ass cpu ( i7-870 @ 2.93GHz ) coupled with a GTX 970 4GB, but 1.0 is so much smoother. Im hoping these optimizations will come to the Xbox version soon.

Playing on a Sony x900e and HDR is so very dark. I thought it was just the game until I turned HDR off and can actually see now. No wonder everyone was getting the jump on me (I still die)

Just had a moment when I was sneaking through a house with a crossbow then I opened a door and there was a guy there with a shotgun but somehow my first bolt hit him in the head.

What luck.

Try this with an 8x-15x scope. 1.0 on PC allows you to zoom in and out.

Some people seem to forget that when PUBG first appeared on PC (and for many weeks after) it ran like absolute shit even on high end setups.

It will get much better.

Yea, and the first patch is a great step in that direction, at least for the X.

We seriously need something for the vehicles. I wouldn't mind banning them from the last few circles until they figure out a way to balance that. It just goofs with a portion of the game that should be the most fun.

I wholeheartedly agree with this idea. They can just make it that vehicles engines will stale after you get inside of the circle and that will help with that issue a bit. It feels so cheap when you make it to the last 10 only to be ran over by a vehicle that you can't fire at without giving away your position to everyone around you.

Duo is secretely the best mode for the game, especially for beginner.

Solo is harsh, Squad is a mess since there's always too much persons speaking at the same time.

No but you can shoot the shit out of them until they explode, taking out anyone standing too close by.
Shoot the people driving or shoot out the tires.
You definitely can, but it becomes more difficult with 5 vehicles and a few other people on foot. You can dance around with one or two vehicles, but you have to expose yourself a lot, and it's extremely difficult when they are close. I'm not saying it's impossible to take out a vehicle, but it's not the best end game when vehicles are hugging all the trees to pick up the prone guys, and you get blasted by others on foot when you go for the vehicles.

One or two in the circle could be fun. 5, 6, 7 vehicles is not at all fun.

Can you sabotage vehicles with car bombs or anything?

No, you have some options though :

- If you have a heavy damage rifle with a good firerate like the thompson, you can empty your weapon on the car, it will explodes. Most of the time, landing enough shot will make the guy drop the vehicule because he fear it might explose. You can then shoot him with a more precision weapon OR continue shooting the vehicle because the guy is probably hiding next to it, killing him in the process.

- Shoot the guy inside the vehicle. Only with a very precise weapon and frankly hard to pull-off. If you suceed to land one shot and see some blood splash, continue. If you miss two or three shot, let it go, you won't kill him.

- Shoot the tires. Only work for a certain distance since shooting tires from long range is HARD in this game.

Squad is like any other team-based game in that you need a cooperation, coordination, and a good leader personality-type, which is often conflated with good ole backseaters and plain bossy assholes. I really enjoy all the modes in this game though, and something I love about the Battle Royale concept is that "soloqueueing" isn't really a thing, because playing alone is a natural state of the game. Unless you're actually queueing alone in Duo or Squad, in which case... why?
