I think even they themselves started to wonder why they were streaming it at some point during the stream.

Kinda funny mentioning easy allies a lot in the newest gamescast with Ashley Burch. In the first ten minutes they mentioned that it was weird that EZA streamed the psx conference because of how low key it was. Andy mentioned hanging out with Jones before the psx event began.

Don't think this needs to be said but: Greg wasn't attacking easy allies for streaming psx, It was more of an offhand comment.

Eza and kfg have nods all the time. It's not that weird

I played Sonic Riders today. What a bad game. After coming to that conclusion, I became curious about if there was a GameTrailers review of it still somewhere. Only found the review for one of the sequels, but that got me into the rabbit hole of watching other GT reviews from Sonic's darkest era. That lead me to watch their Sonic 2006 review, and I just felt the need to come here and state how much of a kick I got out of Jones' pronunciation of "Eggman" in that review. He says the "-man" part like you would say it in "Bosman." I might have to start calling Eggman that from now on.

With regard to Game of the Year deliberations: Once you make the decision to make those public, it becomes a piece of content. As such, you need to make it entertaining for everyone. To date, GOTY deliberations haven't been made public at either GT or EZA because they, collectively, didn't feel that they were either interested or capable of making those deliberations entertaining. I think this is a fair explanation. No one at EZA is obligated to produce content that they don't want to produce just because another site does it.

At the same time, I take a look at Hall of Greats and how enjoyable those streams are, and I wonder if maybe there's something there, they just haven't cracked that nut yet.

I'm going to push back a bit on the entertainment part just because I wouldn't always call giant bombs goty discussions entertaining but they are always interesting if that makes sense. At the same time I understand why they might not want there deliberation process public because that could lead to people tearing it apart. Making the deliberations public helps people see how you came to the decision you did. I think people (myself included) would have been more willing to accept the last guardian as goty if they had shown how they came to that conclusion instead of it seeming like an off the wall pick. The members did discuss why they picked it as there goty after it was announced but that's not the same. I'm still surprised that TLG got goty seeing how much huber, brad and ian dislike it.

This is why I hope they record and upload their deliberations. I LOVE the Hall of Greats videos. It's so much fun watching EZA go back and forth about the pros and cons of games. I could view this kind of thing for hours and hours.

Actually he's said the opposite. He doesn't want to make it public so don't expect it happening
Nope. Cup of Jones 12/12/17 @13:16
Jones said:
Some people like controversy, they like turmoil. They like to see debate, they like to see Allies at odds, they like to see the Easy Allies turned into an uneasy alliance, and next to the GOTY deliberations, which we may possibly record and show to all of you in the month of January, if you want that fire, the Hall of Greats is where you can find it.

That didn't happen. Brad loved TLG, it was his second pick behind FFXV (and above Dark Souls 3). Ian and Huber were the only ones who ended up disliking it but they hadn't even played it at that point and who knows if they would've changed things even if they had.

Guess I mispoke about brad but it's crazy to me that the last guardian was goty if huber, ian and I believe Jones didn't play it then. I remembered that blood, Kyle and damiani (suprisingly) loved it.

It's not that unusual really. We tend to trust one another's opinions. This year, I likely won't get to spend much (if any) time with Divinity: Original Sin, but if Ben fights for that to get onto the nominee list I'm likely going to trust his judgment on that even if very few of us have had the chance to play it. Of course it depends on how the rest of the games line up, so we'll see how it goes.

EDIT: I'm not sure if I perfectly remember the specifics, but I think Ian had played it and just felt like he was the outlier of the group. Huber I don't think had, and didn't expect to be turned off by it.

I here you, it's hard to get nine people to agree on pretty much anything, especally video games and I do apreciate eza and by proxy GT for the more divisive choices for goty (as Brandon pointed out on the podcast) I would personally just like to see more of the thought behind the decision.

Last I remember for GotY's is Jones doesn't want to do it but some of the other Allies do so they're gonna discuss it and make a decision. I don't think Jones is worried it wouldn't be entertaining enough (kind of the opposite really), he thinks they get too heated and doesn't want that out there. At the same time, he doesn't want them to dial it back and if they knew they were being recorded he's worried it would change the dynamic too much and not let them give it their all during the deliberations. I think the HoG streams are a great showcase of why Jones is wrong on this and the deliberations being recorded would not only work, but be some of their best content.

I've been begging for GT/EZA GotY deliberations for years now. The stream deciding the minor categories last year was a step in the right direction and now it's time for them to take the last step. Make it happen this year, please!!

Not to put words in Blood's mouth but I think he's elaborated on it before, either here or at the old site. From what I recall, he said there wasn't much debate, it came up and everyone basically agreed on it. If you look at their personal picks last year, it's not much of a surprise seeing as it was Blood, Kyle and Damiani's first pick and Ben and Brad's second pick (though I think Ben retroactively changed it to his first pick on stream).

^ Elyse was a special guest at Kinda Funny. Tim mentioned during that episode wanting to do something with Huber and they talked about her time at GT.

Regarding TSA, he did publicly respond to claims of cheating. Apparently his video capture was not great back then. He had to videotape runs and submit them. Files got mixed up. Segments from different runs got mixed up, leading to overall lower times. It was an accident.

If there is such controversy and turmoil, with the Allies getting heated and being at odds, why not just do a ranked ballot where people vote for their picks and the game with the most votes/highest point total gets GOTY? They can do a podcast/stream where each member gives a short explanation for their top games so everyone's opinions get out there but have the ballot totals be binding.

Seems like the easiest way with a group of nine. Unless they actually like the fight.

That was such a great Friend Code. Ash was wonderful to have around for the talk, I'm glad that they managed to set this up.

GB's GOTY Deliberations is a Christmas tradition for me at this point, I'd love to add EZA to that.

Seconding how good Ash was on Friend Code.

Had to work between Christmas and New Year's last year (Bear with me, it was new to me :D) and their daily casts saved me!

It is just high-quality and unique content.

It's all recorded. They release it on the holiday week, so I assume starting Monday?

I still need to play Wolfenstein beforehand so I only have to skip the Persona 5 parts. The two friends guys who told me they can bring me their copy didn't :<

Gotcha. That's when content tends to dry out from most other outlets, so that works out well. Hmm, spoiler wise, I probably only have to be wary of Horizon discussions.

Just rewatched the live reaction to the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 just for to recap this year and wow, the turns has changed for anyone before playing the Nintendo Switch.

I'm wondering how much GB cut down those deliberations. They had over 25 HOURS of discussions recorded.
I don't think they edit out much of anything. If there was a prolonged silence longer than 30 seconds they might. The point is that they don't edit out anything so you get to see the entire process.

Yeah I don't think they will edit any of it out. They edit almost all of their content as if it's live to avoid doing post production.

And everyone on GB openly talks about how exhausting it is. That's why I don't think the allies should even attempt anything similar.

I wouldn't mind GOTY deliberations if it's different from the Hall of Greats stuff. Hall of Greats is like 99% facectious arguments over games they all already know are classics, which is funny as a bit, but there's basically no real discussion about the games.

Add me to the list of people who want to see the Goty deliberations recorded, even if they're not in person like the Q&As. It was incredibly silly to me last year when they deliberated on all the awards except GOTY all for the purpose of having some pre-recorded video that wasn't half as interesting as the deliberations and felt like a relic of the GT era to me.

I actually realized how bad of a post i made only after posting, yep that's my bad.
It's respectable that you acknowledge it! Some people would've doubled down.

Silfer Good news, Damiani said he'd be finishing Persona 5 (as well as Horizon) before GOTY deliberations.
Good stuff! Honestly I'm fine if Persona 5 doesn't win. It's my favorite game of all time but it's followed by Nier Automata, BotW and Mario Odyssey (which goes to show how good 2017 has been for me) so if any of these games win I'll be happy. I just want that Persona 5 ammunition clip to be loaded with as many rounds as possible so I'm glad Damiani will be playing it. Though them Odyssey/BotW clips are loaded to max capacity.

Yeah it's a no brainer to have a GOTY deliberations video. I'd eat it up. However, it's probably a big pain in the ass to produce. Takes a lot of time to have such discussions and could be hard to fit in their current schedule.

While I would like a video for the deliberations as well, I can imagine that they will somewhat hold back when it is recorded versus if it is not recorded.
Maybe not consciously, but it seems normal that most people will somewhat hold back and fight less for specific games (or at least not as hard/with different language then they normally would).

Not sure how I feel about that as this can change the outcome of the deliberations as well.

That said, I want to see a deliberations video if it doesn't hamper them from being able to discuss as they normally would.

It was weird to me that Greg kept saying that PlayStation made it clear what the event was going to be. Other than knowing it was more low-key than E3/PGW, I had no idea what to expect and certainly wasn't expecting 3 hours of fluff with developers barely saying anything interesting on stage. I think the fact that Greg knew what it was in advance (since he was a part of it) colored his perception of what everyone else should have been expecting as well.

Hope the next frametrap can be about partly about revisiting the year in games. Waypoint and Kotaku did it and those were really good episodes.

This Damiani playthrough of Xenoblade has been rough. Why can't he ever explain why thinks some things are bad. He just says that word every time and I don't get why, especially in the better moments of the game and half the time in the cutscenes he's watching the other screen for some reason and even paused once or twice to watch something completely unrelated. From my view it seems he doesn't like the game but says he wants to see the story unfold but does at the same hardly pay attention to it. Maybe I'll And I'm still waiting for Rouge Galaxy, I want see more of that cheesy goodness

Really enjoyed Friend Code's 2017 review. As someone who's bought themselves a Switch for Christmas it was a great summary of all I need to catch up on. Damiani did a good job of allowing enough time for discussion before moving the talk along.
