So I saved the game the other day at the chapter complete screen and when I loaded the game the next day, it took me straight on without allowing me to choose the side story, have I missed it now?
When you save on the chapter's end screen (or side chapter's) you automatically start the next chapter/side chapter when you load, you don't return to the chapter's end screen.
Side stories are not optional, by the way, you can't skip them, so don't worry.
Lol, looks like there's definitely a few spots where they overlooked some obvious translation issues. There was a flashback in chapter 4 to a scene that I saw like 2 minutes earlier, but the dialogue said something different in the flashback than it did the first time.

can anyone tell me how the combat is in this compared to ys8? i loved that game but that was in part because of the dino island and in part of our characters learning so many skills.
I'm trying to use PS4 controller mod for Dualshock buttons prompts, but after copying files into root directory of the game it stops launching. I can see that Xanadu process is running, but that's it. It's starts launching only when I delete dxgi files, but of course the game still has X360 controller prompts after that. Any workaround?

There's less skills than Ys 8. Each character have some variation but you have your bread and butter melee skill, a charge melee skill (bash attack) a mid air glide (does more hits the closer you are to the ennemy) and every character also has a ranged attack. Of course all of these are varied per character, like a character can send 4 magic missile on their range skill, another one is a projectile but it pierces ennemies etc.
The battle system is a tad slower than Ys too, but similar. I play on the hardest setting and I die in 2-3 hits. And on the two hardest setting there's a lengthy item cool down so you cannot chug item like you could on Nightmare in Ys 8
I'm loving this game, it's basically Trails: Persona, I love going around talking to all the NPCs just like in the Trails game.
Totally deserves to do much better than it has done, as it appears to have flopped which makes me sad. :/ The graphics, while obviously dated, are quite charming I find, I really like how clean it looks.

Geez, even the afternoon high school music has a very strong Persona vibe lol.
Not that I'm complaining. Actually the combination of the Persona formula and a wide variety of named NPCs with lives of their own (i.e. Falcom NPCs, I guess) sounds like a match made in heaven.

As someone who talks to every NPC the compendium is great as you can actually remember who everyone is :P Agreed that the Persona vibe + the usual Trails interesting NPCs is a great combination.
Can someone with the PS4 version, and is on the final chapter, check if there's 2 master cores with the same name? someone on another forum told me about it and that shouldn't be happening, given it was fixed on the PC version.
Played for a bit. I'm a bit lukewarm on the combat, kinda thought even Zwei's combat felt better, but otherwise I'm enjoying it. Talking to NPCs is, unsurprisingly, very relaxing and fun.

That's what I thought at first too, but I think the bright/brave/kind is what level your stats are at, since it changes as you improve them. Although I guess that'd make the translation issue the text to the left of the stars, since it's left in JP...
Nah. Wisdom, Courage and Virute are the name of the stats, Bright, Brave and Kind are the current 'ranks' (they change with each star). Threw me for a loop at the beginning as well, haha.

Combat gets better once you have all your basic moves and a few more party members. (So... at the end of chapter 2 :P )
Dungeons get a bit more complex over time as well, tho I think they are more interesting in Zwei due to the small puzzles.

maybe there was / is then because the ps4 version is behind the pc version patch last time i checked. either way it shouldn't affect much since i was still able to get the trophy for getting all them
I came across an untranslated line in the After Story. One of the location names that pops up at the top of the screen when you go there for the first time is still in Japanese.

I'm pretty sure I have the latest one since I finished the game earlier today and didn't get any update prompts. I'm not sure if I was fast enough to screenshot it, I'll look in a bit.

Enjoying the game, been chugging my way through calamity. Just beat the Golden Harpie, 24000 Health, 409 hit combo finished it! Only got hit twice too :D
Best tip for early White Shroud, dont buy the 800 health pots, buy the cheap one as he has a ability that doubles the heals. Helps early on.
At this point i don't know how much behind is the PS4 version, because this and several other things mentionted here are already fixed on PC. Hopefully they can fix them all this week.

Yeah right now the equivalent is when you do a nice or cool dodge but it really doesn't a lot of X-Drive meter. Theres an element that makes it 3x more effective but it should slow down time like in Ys so you can drop some free damage in the enemy.
Will I be brutally eviscerated if I say I like Falcom's action RPGs a HELL of a lot more than their more old-school ones?
Ys, Nayuta, and now this... I find these games so much more fun than the regular Trails games...

I won't eviscerate you :p but I personally think you're wrong but there's no accounting for taste, for me they are all excellent but Trails is in a league of its own compared to pretty much any other jrpg franchise no matter the dev.
Lol I just did the same thing. Spent 40 minutes just going around talking to everyone right after they set up the climactic battle for the chapter. As much as I like all of the NPCs being so fleshed out, it definitely hurts the pacing quite a bit.

I don't think they hurt the pacing at all. In the moments before the climax of a chapter there won't be any new side quest or hidden side quest, or new stuff to buy on stores that wasn't there before, or anything new really, it's just more npc dialogue. The only thing you'll miss is some friendship entries, but that's designed to be filled on multiple playthroughs even if you're completely thorough. I don't think there's any design decision pushing the players to interact with the NPCs in those segments unless you actually want to because you enjoy them.
During free time I could see it being a problem pacing wise for some people, as that part expects the player to go through most of the areas and talk to people, but outside of that segment there's very little reason to engage outside personal enjoyment.
Oooof Side Story 4's boss was one tough customer.
I guess this is a prelude to the horrors of Chapter 5 onwards huh?
The game has ome good boss fights, and I like that it keeps unlocking stuff for you to do gradually over time so as not to overwhelm you early on.
The kid in the camera store with his hot takes on the games industry is good. The 2 unnamed volleyball girls in the cafeteria I enjoy reading about their day.

It's funny you consider Falcom's turn-based RPGs their "more old-school" ones considering they were making action RPGs long before they made any turn-based RPGs.
Lol, I was like "yeaaaaah, that seems pretty likely, I can't wait to see the character reactions when they reveal it for real".
It's kind of the same with other stuff too, like
when you read about the Valiant Gear in the newspaper early in the game I totally new what was going to happen and was all giddy in anticipation :)

Hitomi and Marie
That one university student in Star Camera who was trying to buy budget headphones, but then decided to go for quality and the next time you see him he's a total audiophile.
SPiKA
Gotou
Morimaru
The grandpa and the little girl at Station Square
Saki and Ayato
Shizune
Does anyone know how to enable character support in dungeons later, when
Towa and Shiori
join? Or is it enabled automatically? Their avatar appears with the message to provide support, like extra points. But I couldnt figure if it was enabled
Finished the game after 75 hours on Hard, including After Story. An epic game I thought would never finish. 3 lengthy final chapters in total with powerful bosses
including TTGL Shiori
. In the end I thought "Not fighting
Rem, the Überboss
again! Fortunately I didnt have to.
But only reason I finished the game, were the real action battles.I got used to it from the Ys games, so I adapted fast.Pure Turn-based battles like in Persona became lenghty and very tedious afterwards, one reason I dropped Persona 4. Here only the Ultimate boss gave me serious difficulties.
Kou should never have been the protagonist. He is easily the worst main character I encountered. If it werent for his background story and childhood friend...Even the mute Persona protagonists were better. Fortunately the rest of the characters and NPCs shine. Really liked the sidestories, eg the arcade kid or Yusuke and his grandma. Even the sellers were memorable.
I'd rename Tokyo Xanadu to Persona 4 Revised Edition. Everything I didnt like in P4 is fixed here. Better monster and bosses design too. Rion (TX Risette) is a playable character and is an active idol instead of retired. You hear some catchy songs, which P4 lacks sadly. Shio provides a good background story with delinquents, as opposed to P4 insecure Kenji who just beats people to a pulp. Sora is more heartfull and compassiibate than P4 Chie. Only Yukiko is superior to Asuka by a margin. Only Personas are missing, which is to be expected. No Nanako and Ryujima, though some NPC kids arent as bad.
Though there isnt such a villain like
Adachi. Morimiya and Gorou do not compare
. Also liked that in the True Ending game is far more gay friendly than Persona. Eg Kaoru found a partner to work with, despite the initial misunderstanding . Humor didnt go as far as P4 and the baths episodes were decent too, with just one instance of boob measurements.
