Nope. I thought I had to enter the castle through the top and then, I dunno, work my way down inside it or something. I didn't think that the top would be it. I guess in hindsight it makes sense to make the top the end, but since it was really easy for me to get to, I didn't think that would be it.

I'm also going to keep playing it and will explore the castle and more of the world/shrines.

Definitely work your way through the whole castle. The ease of just coasting to the top aside, it's one of the most interesting zones in the entire game and a great starting point for how dungeons could be handled in future games.

I've been hopping back into Breath of the Wild to clean up some wayward shrines and more generally just soak in some of the areas of the game that I never got to.

I gotta say, man the Typhlo Ruins were cool.

I'd say it remind me of Dragon's Dogma, but it actually goes way further than that. That place is just unabashedly pitch black. Even with a torch out it feels like you barely have situational awareness. While there isn't much you can do there, I can only imagine going there earlier in the game and having that be your first Hinox encounter.

I wish nights could get that dark in the whole game. Maybe a "new moon" phase that happens every few weeks?

Not sure how much more I'm going to play. My main goals right now are finding more shrines and upgrading my gear. I also plan on going back to Hyrule Castle and heavily exploring it.

Agreed, one of my favorite parts of the game.

Haven't played this game for the last few weeks, because I was about to tackle the devine beast near the Rito village...and to be honest, I hadn't enjoyed the previous two devine beasts at all. But what do you know, this dungeon was actually pretty fun and so was the boss, even if he was still very easy.

Bleh then I wasted a bunch of ancient arrows on nothing. I also just barely beat a white Lynel and a blood moon instantly respawns him, killing my enjoyment.

A tip about Guardians:
Cut off their legs. You can easily cheese them that way, especially if it's just one or two. I only really used ancient arrows in Hyrule Castle, to take out Guardians that were far away but posed a threat.

Also, Guardians from battle shrines also respawn, so you can also duel them again after a Blood Moon if you want to take their weapons or take a picture for your compendium.

I've been doing that. Kind of hard to get the first leg down as they're constantly backing away. I was mainly using ancient arrows when I was in midair and it's easier to aim.

Ancient arrows are specifically for guardians. You get more materials than you need for an arrow when killing one. Just make sure you one shot them.

"Finished" the game earlier today. By that I mean I defeated Ganon. I had the 4 divine beasts and had a decent amount of upgrades with 3 fairies discovered (found the 4th but lol 10k) and was able to find enough seeds to get like 5 more weapon slots, 2-3 shield/bow. I really enjoyed my time with it, A LOT. I found there to be so many small things that I want to applaud the developers for adding and I didn't even find them all. I disliked the durability, early game stamina, memory quest and seeds the most probably out of the game. I don't know what I would want to replace the memory quest but I just didn't enjoy it. And the seeds, ugh. I was always wanting more slots and it drove me crazy that there are 900 of these stupid seeds in the game. I just couldn't bring myself to go out looking for more. Especially early on this bugged me. Durability I felt was always annoying, especially early on and stamina was dreadful early to the middle of the game. Even with these annoyances I thought the game was a lot of fun I just can't see myself pushing on to get the rest of the shrines or korok seeds.

Spent some time on youtube tonight to see how much I missed and still want to applaud the developers. From riding bears, to getting octo balloons to float things. They just did an amazing job with so many little things. I found it funny that I just discovered you can just go straight to Ganon once you get off the pleateau.

Question: I went to continue and my last save was an auto save in the castle with a '*' on it. Does this mean if I continue that file I can just warp out and it's like nothing happened but the game knows I beat it once? What's the deal?

Not sure if I'm going to jump into either DLC pack yet. Have more games I want to play this holiday season!

I should've got the master sword before doing the divine beasts because I'm tired of all the NPCs thinking less of me for not wielding it yet.

Yea this was really annoying haha. By the time the 3rd one I said. I'm finished with your shit. I went and got it. Luckily I had done a lot of shrines and heart the hearts already.

Every freaking time I'm not looking for a dragon I find one, and when I'm looking for one I can't. -_-'

That save is right outside the final boss room so you can just leave. The game knows that you've finished but the only changes that occur are that it surfaces your % completion and expands Kilton's sidequest. Maybe I'm missing something but it can't be major.

Wtf. So I finally found Farosh. I need shards of his horn to upgrade the main tunic. First two times I saw him I was way too low to reach him. 3rd time I find him I'm finally high enough to hit him. I'm waiting for him to come around closer to me, but this time he keeps going up before disappearing in a vortex in the sky. I have no idea what to do now.

Edit: Took like half an hour but I finally got both horn shards.

So what's the verdict on the DLCs? Does the second one add a decent amount of shrines or puzzles or other new content? New areas? I'm itching to get back into this game...

Hyrule Castle is incredible. The last thing I was going to do before putting the game down was fully explore it but I saw there's a memory there (2 probably but I don't know where the one with the horse statue is) so I went to work on it now. The area is freaking massive and there's so much to get everywhere. Every area inside has something cool in it. It's reminding me how underwhelming I found most of the real dungeons. It feels like they put more work into Hyrule Castle than the 4 dungeons combined.

Edit: Holy shit I found a sword with 103 attack.

So right now I'm trying to find more shrines, get every piece of armor and upgrade them. Is the guardian resist gear inside the mazes? I completed all 3 and got the attack increase armor, but I found a secret room in one of them that had a guardian resist piece.

Guardian resist gear has to be crafted at the lab

Inside the maze north of the Akkala Lab, when you complete it an air vent opens up allowing you to fly out. If you fall down it, there's a treasure chest with a ton of inactive guardians. There was a Diamond Circlet inside it that gives Guardian resist (and has more armor than standard sets). When you open up the chest all of the Guardians inside the room activate.

Circlets are not part of sets, they're just individual items with a buff though

Oh ok. I have a Ruby Circlet from a quest in Gerudo but it has the same stats as other gear.

Edit: I'm shocked there's no giant squid by all the seagulls near Mapla Point. They scared the hell out of me in Wind Waker.

Finished the final trials of the sword and got my complete Master Sword. Feels good man.

Final trials honestly weren't too bad.

I feel like the ancient arrows really helped a lot. As much as I wanted to do them without resorting to it, I didn't want to do 15+ floors again to give it another shot.

DLC Pack 2 is definitely awesome, gave me more sense of adventuring and I felt like they REALLY threw some crazy ideas out there for the shrines.

Just finished the game.

I didn't really like having a entity as Ganon. I guess they gave the line that he gave up on reincarnation and just came as a entity of hate, but my favorite versions of him have been when he's been cunning, or had any kind of motivations.

I'm still not done with it. I think I'm a little over halfway done now. It's certainly a lot different than I was expecting, but it's reminded me why I love the game so much. I think so far it's like a condensed version of the best aspects of BotW taken up a notch. Don't go in expecting a meaty story quest, though. But from what I have heard, it has an ending boss battle that's really good. I'm looking forward to replaying the game with the DLC integrated.

Agreed 100%. Ganon was probably the least interesting thing about the entire game. I didn't like the mindless beast take on Ganon at all. Sure the floating spectacle around Hyrule Castle was menacing, but there was nothing interesting about his characterisation at all.

This is, outside the fallen hero timeline, one of the first times we've seen Ganon basically be successful for an extended (over 20 year) period of time. Imagine a confident Ganon, a snarky Ganondorf who tells you that you have no chance since he killed you and all your friends 100 years ago. It just seems like such a regression from Ganondorf in OoT, WW, and TP. Heck, even Majora's Mask is more fleshed out and it's an inanimate object for the most part. Demise shows up for 5 mins and he shows Link some respect before he dies, even that's better than this.

If you have the trifecta, Link, Zelda, and Ganon, at least give him one line of dialogue, lol. I suppose though that the major triumph of this game as a whole is that it doesn't matter, the world is your motivation and your challenge.

So I finally got to the top of Hebra for the first time ever (after only about 380 hrs, now playing Master Mode) and these things happened.

#1 First time I've ever seen this...

I was basically just experimenting which is why I tried a fire arrow and throwing a Claymore to see what effect it would have.

#2 And he pulls it off in the end....!

The black and white Lynels are annoying because they take so long to die. I end up breaking multiple weapons just to kill them.

The visuals in this game continue to amaze me. Seeing those 5 giant pillars around Hyrule Castle just invites curiosity. I hope Nintendo builds on their amazing world building in BOTW for the next Zelda game. I think they learned a lot about how to use environmental storytelling and suggesting a history to the landscapes and environments they make.

Damn I do not like this Yiga Clan quest. I understand mixing it up is good but I hate being stealthy.

The Korok following quest in the lost woods is much worse.

Though the guards one-shotting you through all your fairies and Mipha's Grace is some grade-A nonsense. At least you can Stasis and run past them if the rune is fully upgraded.

As soon as I figured out equipping stasis makes it easier to see through the woods I breezes through it. Didn't even get attacked by the wolf.

I have the fully upgraded stasis but damn this yiga one is unfun. Decided to take a break after my fifth failure.

I wish BOTW had a new game+ where everything from your first run carries over and you can just cheese the game. It would be fun to be the god of hyrule while still having all that gameplay and content in front of me.

honestly, I like what they were going for. Ganon being an evil storm/force of nature is in line with BotW's theme, but yeah, I do prefer a human characterized villain.

I also wanted to hear him talk lol, but maybe with this game's quality of voice acting, it was better we didn't get that

Lynels aren't that hard
Equip your highest damage weapon
Headshot it
Mount and bash it
Repeat

It doesn't even take weapon durability except from your bow
