So, really simple thread, the same as i did in the old place, but what games made you cry the most? Genuine answer please! It could be sad or happy moments!

There's a lot of emotionnal events in games that are considered great, but personally, it's really rare that they make me cry! (even if i liked them)

So here are my picks :

TO THE MOON

header.jpg

a story driven "game" that i recommend to everyone, and it's often on sales on steam! it last only 3-4 hours, but it will affect you deeply (at least it did for me)! I won't spoil anything, the game is so short, you need to experience it fully! Everything is great, the music, the atmosphere, and two particular moments always makes me cry everytime i rewatch them!

I honestly never played a game that touched me as much as this one! Everyone i knew that played the game has been impacted in some ways! It's even more powerfull when you play it a second time!
And a sequel, finding paradise, will release tomorrow! Hope it will be as good!

A lot of people know this thanks to the anime, personally i never watched it, and did the VN on steam, and god thoses final moments in the game, these are hard, the music helps a lot makes the tears flow! Even the side route have pretty touching moments

Played Little busters too, while this game has a way better story and characters, and was really touching, clannad still touched me a bit more!

MOTHER 3

Do i need to explain what this is? Not really, even if you didn't play earthbound (mother 2), you could appreciate this game! The beginning, and especially the ending, are real tearjerking moments, does nintendo thinks it's too much for us westerner to handle?

Honorable mentions (some made me cry in that list, most didn't, but still made me pretty emotional) :

The house in Fata Morgana, the feeeeels
Trails in the sky Trilogy (especially the 3rd)
Rakuen
Valiant hearts
Little busters
Nier and Nier Automata (the music made me cry, not the game itself, but it's still great)
Walking Dead S1
Undertale

I've never had a game make me cry, but as I always mention in these threads, those stories in Lost Odyssey got damned close.

I'm made of stone for like 95% of games but that one scene in FFXV got me bad, you all know what it was if you played it.

Kuwait.
Xenogears.. a lot of this.
Zero Escape trilogy made me cry like a kid sometimes.
NieR's Music (and Automata).
Aqua and Xion stories and their music in Kingdom Hearts.
Recently Xenoblade 2's ending made me shed a tear.
oh right and Type-0's ending.. that was sad.

From most to least.

I've never cried so much in a game than with Nier Automata.

Three times.

Huge spoilers
When 2B died
When I saw Pascal selling the Childrens' Cores
The credits (though that was a happy cry)

Yoko Taro's wild ride man.

Games very rarely make me cry, but the endings of the second and third Layton games definitely got to me.

Journey.

Played it once, and I will never play it again. Such a powerful game, and I played it in a moment of my life that I was dealing with lost. It completely broke me.

The ending for the first Dreamfall is probably where I got closest to crying, albeit I doubt I ever cried for a videogame. Which reminds me, I need to get to the new episodes eventually.

Oh, almost forgot: Rime's ending. Fuck that hit me hard.

The only game that nearly brings me to tears is Journey. As it makes me think about the struggles of life and finding peace at the end of whatever your 'journey' along the way to your dreams may be. All while keeping the goal (mountain peak) in your sights as you make your way. I can safely say that no other game has had such a profound impact on me.

Journey

Didn't actually cry but started feeling moisture, lol. And the amazing thing about that game is that it wasn't a sad moment, which is fairly easy to manufacture - it was a moment of pure joy that was so potent it was overwhelming.

The first game that made me tear up was FFX, but I'm pretty sure Life is Strange's sad ending made me cry more than any other game. Like ugly cry. Like I hope no one comes in and sees me sobbing over a video game ending cry. lol

I cry or at least get teary eyed a lot when gaming because I'm super empathetic (Okami's ending, pretty much any sad scene/ending in story-heavy RPGs, that last climb in Darker Side of the Moon in Odyssey, etc). Same thing with movies, I tend to get teary eyed a lot lol. But there are three that come to mind that really made me cry in a way that I wasn't entirely in control:

To the Moon

Mother 3

The Last Guardian

All great games.

edit: Ok, Life is Strange too. I don't remember if Undertale also made me cry but it might have. Doesn't stick out as much as the others though.

The end of Persona 3 got me good. Cried through the whole credits, Memories of You is the perfect song for that ending.

I have had some emotional moments from games over the years, but only one actually made me burst into tears.

The Last Guardian

Apparently I'm a heartless monster because I don't think I've ever come close to crying from a game.

But, if I had to pick a game that kindled the most emotion, it would probably be Transistor. The voice acting of the transistor was so smooth and felt full of actual love. Plus the ending credits splash screens were beautiful.

I cried my eyes out while playing To The Moon. I was still living with my mother back then and she thought someone had died when I went into the kitchen drowning in tears.

Valiant Hearts is the only game that made me shed some actual tears. That ending was horrible.

Also Last of Us and Walking Dead Season 1 gave me some watery eyes

For a game that I don't like very The Last Guardian's ending was like a punch in the gut, only game that made me tear. It made it worth it just to have at least played it.

Nier Automata has some good parts too and I'm pretty sure I've played a visual novel that got my feelings in a twist....don't remember the name though. These aren't to the extent of TLG though.

I usually don't cry while playing videogames, but this year, for some reason, two games really got to me for very different reasons.

Final Fantasy XV - First, I got emotional right at the introduction because I had waited more than ten years to finally put my hands on this game, and it meant a lot personally to finally be able to do so. The story itself made me cry right at the end. It was an incredibly emotional ending, it truly felt like the end of a long journey. Tabata excels at moving finishers.

Dragon Age: Inquisition - Dorian's personal quest. As a gay man, his quest moved me to tears because it was incredibly simple, immensely relatable and emotional and personally it felt like a small victory to be able to witness a tasteful LGBT sidequest. Growing up, all my heroes were basically stoic, heterosexual characters, and of course you can relate to those and feel empathy. But to finally have a sidequest that spoke directly to me and to my personal struggles... that was huge.

Only game I cried for was The Last of Us. The beginning.

I've come close other times though.

The Witcher 3
when Geralt thought Ciri was dead and he was hugging her, rocking back and forth

Persona 4 Golden.
Nanako hospital scene, any outcome gets to me.
. And the whole ending.

Final Fantasy X ending. Despite hating the game the ending was well done.

Red Dead Redemption
John's death.

No Man's Sky.

It was the game I'd dreamt of being made for 30 years, and it was a steaming pile of.......enough to make me cry.

Never actually cried with videogames.

Almost did in Mother 3 final battle tho.

Or Snake and Otacon handshake scene in MGS 2.

Or when Red XIII find about his father's fate in FFVII.

Or FFIX with Zidane in Pandemonium...

Other games have come close, but the only one to make actual tears come out of my eyes was The Last Guardian.

The last half hour or so is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster.

If you need a good, hours long cry, look no further than
header.jpg

I've never had a game that's utterly destroyed me and those feelings still linger. I still am unable to listen to or even think about the game for too long or I start to tear up.

NieR (the original) Just before it slapped me right in the feels and multiple other moments to, warning proper spoilers
When we killed the wolf for the second time, when Fyra Dies, When the King dies, when Emil sacrificed himself, when Emil lived just to name a few
I was a emotional wreck during that game.

Nier Automata was similar but not quite to the same extent.
Even though I was shedding tears I felt a disconnect with them being machines, not that that was a bad thing quite the opposite. It was a entirely new and interesting feeling that had me questioning what makes life well life.

Now whenever I hear NieR's music I have to fight back the tears no other game has ever had such a lasting effect on me and that's why it is one of my absolute favourite series. I have shed tears for other games; A few Final Fantasys, MGS3, Majoras Mask, Persona 4 to name some, but nothing has come close in any form of entertainment medium to NieR in making me blub like a child.

The Walking Dead Season 1 did it for me. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons bummed me out massively, Life is Strange didn't want me to make a choice but TWD:S1 had me holding back tears. Don't know how or why, but it just did.
