I still can't believe that this is a shooter where you can hang out on a map for 25 minutes without seeing another player and then die from a player you haven't seen and IT'S THIS ADDICTIVE. Game is absolutely fantastic. It's kept me going for 50 hours on PC and I'm having just as much of a blast on this (clearly inferior) version. I think the game is brilliant in it's simplicity. Jump in to a game quickly. Die. Load out and load in to a new game. No hanging around watching other players finish the match or anything. Barely any options to play other types of matches. Just funnel everyone to the meat of the game quickly with no rubbish surrounding it. Perfect.
I had far less fun last night playing alone than I did the day before with friends. Many WTF Bull shit moments and I get thats part of the experience but sorta bummed me out last night. Going to have to try and get more friends who play.
Slow down before you get out, just like real lifeIn my lunch break I did a match. Standard landing on the secondary island, 3-4 people around, so I instantly run in a house where no one else went. I grab a couple weapons and a bag, hide in a corner just in case someone tries to loot the place. Minutes pass, nothing happens, so I loot another house and start going towards the water as the circle is on the main island. Lucky for me I find a boat, so I start speeding towards the main land. As I get close to it, I leave the boat. I die from fall damage.
What.
The framerate is definitely atrocious until you're on the main island for about thirty seconds, but after that I haven't had very many issues with it. Playing on an Xbox One S.
The performance could absolutely be a lot better, but it's certainly not unplayable.
It has happened to pretty much everyone at some point, you're in good company.
I ran a jeep into a post at like 10mph and my friend instantly was downed. It was hilarious. Those are the moments in this game that really make it shine.
Can't find the actual OT to post this there, but, in the test server on PC, if you search for a custom match, one of the options is "Zombies". Are they trying to beat DayZ before it officially launches?
Ahhh Gotcha gotcha, thank you. I had no idea that was even a thing. Not the same thing.
Zombies mode is 4 people against 96 zombies. The zombies can't use weapons but have stronger melee i think. It's only available in custom mode for now.
So I'm really into this game. I can tell I'm going to be invested for some time.
With that said, a few questions... Hopefully someone has the answers or can link me to a website that does.
What's the best weapons? Are there any weapons that are particularly rare that you just HAVE to use if you find it?
What's the best gear/armor/etc..?
How do you earn new clothing & outfits? I see the options are pretty limited from the Customization screen.
Generally all AR's (AK, M16, M4, Scar) are fantastic all purpose weapons and save for the AK also great at longer ranges. You usually want one of these in a match.
Sniper weapons are also fantastic, however you need attachments to make them work (at least a 4x, prefferably and 8x, and ideally some stability attachment). I also don't know how effective they are with a controller.
Crate only weapons are pretty much the best weapons. That's high end snipers like the AWM and the M24, the M14 (DMR) and the Gorza (7.76 AR ). You'll only rarely get one of these though, unless you actively hunt drops. And that's often very risky.
Close up SMG's are your go to (though the AR's are decent for this too).
Pistols are worthless beyond minute 5.
Shotguns have surprisingly good range with a choke, but they remain very situational weapons and if you don't aim well they quickly doom you.
The crossbow is the worst weapon in the game.
Most are, but every so often, you'll hear that plane go by - it's dropping crate or crates which have more rare stuff. Those are the crates he is talking about. I have only got to them twice in like 30+ matches. So I'm clearly exposing my complete noobiness to the game, but what are "Crate only weapons"? I thought the weapons you found were always just laying out on the floor.

Oh shit! I kept associating the plane with the "red circle" fire bomb area. Great to know! Thanks for the information, dudes. I can't wait to dive back in tonight.

Not sure about without a gun, but you definitely run faster while on the energy drink or pills.Once my brain connected the dots with how the hamburger menu is used to help sort between inventory and the stuff on the ground nearby, I've gotten a whole lot more efficient dealing with looting kills. Aside from what I can only attribute to odd local network conditions on my end, getting a red-dot or even just a 2X scope makes aiming quite a bit more managable for mid-range. I feel like an absolute moron when I have the jump on someone but I totally whiff like five shots, then they just turn around and merc me.
Am I right that you run slightly faster without a gun (or with the gun holstered)?

You do run quicker without a weapon I believe, and as above, you run faster when boosted with painkillers/energy drinks.
Yeah, I realized that I should pretty much down the energy drinks instead of saving them, unless I'm creeping around the outside of the thunderdome to kill time.

Reminds me of the Hunger games :)Be careful of the crate drop though! People often race towards them when they drop so you might find a load of other players around the crate. You can keep back and use it as a lure... Or you could be lured! But yeah, it has good stuff in it.
I assume there is a wiki. Basically get a silencer and a scope and you are goldenIs there a good guide anywhere explaining the different items/attachments/guns? I got the itch now and need to get in deep to the mechanics.

What.
While driving home from work today, speed along your street. As you're nearing your house, set the cruise control to 30MPH. With cruise control on, continue driving, open your driver side door, undo your seatbelt, and jump out of the car. Please report your findings.

It really is awesome seeing the support for the streamer get crazy as he gets further into the match. Such a great feature.
I slowed down, and I fell into water, not concrete. I didn't feel like the speed was mortal at full health, but it is what it is. I'm really enjoying the game however, it's ridiculous that at work I keep thinking about it, that hasn't happened to me in quite some time.
