Really? Enemies flash red before they attack and/or have a clear windup animation.
Nothing inconsistent about animation cancel. You can't cancel our of an attack when it's underway, only during a short timeframe at the beginning of it.

hmmm.... doesn't feel like every attack has a flash? Enemies are sometimes flashing consistently too at low hp. Don't remember bosses flashing before an attack.

Anyways i'm feeling the gist of combat now that I got 3 party members.

Still though... something about this game... still not sure what it is lol. Like the game reuses so many ui elements and design from cold steel its hilarious (them arcade minigames!), and the amount of references...

I still have no clue how falcom can put out such meaty games every year, like they only have like 1 team right?

Man this game needs some slick weapon summoning stock footage Ala fairy fencer f.

The opening got some cool cellphone invoking stuff that you don't see in game :(

Also you see some magic casting circle effects in cutscenes but I don't think you see any in combat?

Oh, it's basically Cold Steel in all but name, setting and combat. The combat and dungeons DO get more involved after a while, but it has the same amount of talkiness and 'lulls', especially in the beginning the ratio is quite skewed towards non-action if you do the good old talking to NPC spiel.
My reaction was also "this feels familiar and cozy in a good way", tho I played Cold Steel in... August.
Nice. Knew I'd like this.

I'm definitely going to play this because Trails is my jam and Persona is my jam and Falcom action RPGs are my jam and large casts of interconnected NPCs in a single city all of whom have names and the illusion of an elaborate personal life story is EXTREMELY my jam, but I do have a question about it just so I know what I'm getting into when I finish up Xenoblade 2.

I'm totally fine with light novel archetypes and The Formula, as it were, but I'd like to know before I dive in what I'm getting into. Can I expect the characters to transcend their light novel cast archetypes by the time the story's over, or should I just be expecting to turn my brain off and enjoy some competently executed light novel pandering for what it is? I'd rather know in advance so I have my expectations set properly, though I'm sure I'd enjoy either possibility.

I'm in the middle of chapter 4. I'm enjoying it a whole lot, it's scratching that Trails itch perfectly.
I've noticed that the game is significantly more faster paced than Trails despite being so similar in structure. Tokyo Xanadu only has the start of the chapter (the free time section) as the segment where you explore and solve side quests, after you do that, it goes straight up to the storyline of the chapter. This gives the game a much more episodic vibe, together with the fact that it introduces the main conflict of the chapter at the very beginning of it, contrary to Trails which meanders a lot more introducing the chapters' conflicts. The trade off it's that the world building and characterization are very clearly not on the same level. So far there's an excesive amount of lampshading and handwaving in regards to a lot of the supernatural stuff, and I'm still not clear on why the Xiphones are used at all in regards to all the Eclipse shenaningans and soul devices. It's nothing serious because it still works despite of these issues, but the worldbuilding could have been so much better (still can get better in the end).

This is pretty brutal on calamity, having a lot of trouble with the second boss.
I'm only playing on nightmare, but the game has gone downhill in difficulty since the beginning. I was getting my ass kicked constantly by the first couple of bosses, but since then I haven't died and my item usage has dropped to barely seeing any use.

Yeah I'll keep pushing along I suspect it'll get easier with gear and levels. I'M on Chapter 2 and it's pretty shocking how similar it is to Cold Steel 1 and 2, down to the gem (aka Sepith Mass) a lot of system are eerily similar, I guess it allows Falcom to develop these game at reduced cost. The story and character so far leave me wanting to know more.

man at ch3 and finally figured out they are trying to structure this as like tv show eps. Was confused why they keep playing the anime opening lol. They need to go full out and put some credits and other bits though.

So is this game pretty much like Trails of Cold Steel: Persona.

Looks neat. Skipped it on Vita due to hearing about this version but I'll consider it.

The battle controls are ruining this game for me. I can't change them either because changing the buttons for battle also affects other things.

I want attack to be square, but then that makes square my talk/confirm button. I want my jump button to be X, but that makes X my cancel button. :I
Who thought this was a good idea.

I'll just have to get used to the defaults I guess.

Use type control B and edit your controls manually from there. I have talk/confirm as X this way, and attack with square.

if you liked Persona 4 characters, you'll like the ones here too. Due to the main leads in Persona being mute, it often leads to awkward situations. The main character of EX+ talks and has his own opinion. Character relation do not depend on the things he says, like in P4. There are also less comedic relief moments and character interactions seem more fluid. Eg P4 Kanji's delinquent past is hardly revealed. Chapter 4 in TX is actually about a character's delinquent past with his former gang. Probably the same will happen later with a character resembling Risette. Overall the world of TEX feels much better and detailed than that of P4.

There is character development mainly because the male lead has a past living in this city since childhood and knows most of the students. His female cousin is actually a maths teacher at school and he was also childhood friend with another character. Things feel less forced and are more interesting this way.

And this where I havent even completed half the game.If you liked P4, this game is a must play

Hmm.. I'm not seeing the type control B thing. Are you playing the PS4 version?
I know I mentioned Playstation buttons but I'm playing the PC version with a controller. Wondering if PC doesn't have it or I'm blind.

Just use Steam Controller rebinding - which despite the name works with all gamepads.
Just set up two controller sets, with, say, holding Select for 3+ seconds switching between them.

Sorry, yeah, I'm playing on PS4. There's 3 presets available on top of manually changing every input. I'm not sure if having chosen the type B preset (and edit it to my liking) is what made it possible, but I have exactly the configuration you wanted, so I thought to just tell you to do what I did.

But yeah, don't know about the PC version. Sorry I'm not able to help.

Any news for us Europeans? Retail PS4 version is pretty much non-existent, when will it be available at more retailers?

Still currently getting more details from our EU distributor, but as of right now it's currently up physically at bazaar-bazaar as well as Amazon UK.

Apologies for the inconvenience!
Any news on Humble Store on a similar note? I saw you said something about contacting them earlier and I still see nothing on their store.

We just provided the codes to Humble Bundle and they're setting up the store page now, so hopefully very very soon things will be up and ready to go :)!

GOG is still pending as well. Sorry for the delay!

Finished Chapter 2 and the Side Story, game keep being excellent. I first bought it solely because it was made by Falcom, needless to say I'm pleasantly surprised. It's my first title I played in the Xanadu series.

Tokyo Xanadu is trolling Persona 4 in episode 5. Fog appears and a student tells a story about people dissappearing in the fog in a rural village.

Definitely putting this on my wish list. I can't afford a full-priced game right now but I loved the Cold Steel games and this looks right up my alley.

Didn't know about this, neat. This'll do just fine.

No worries, thanks for trying to help. Weird that the presets aren't on PC though.

Great to see you here, can you confirm if the game has ps4 pro support? And if does, what kind of improvements has?

There should be new stuff throughout the entire game. You don't really unlock every slot till practically near the end of the game.

I didn't upgrade all of my skills completely till the last dungeon.
Hmmm OK. Just hoping I don't have to grind for rare drops.

Just find it odd that all my stuff are lvl 1 still lol.

Wonder if antique lady will sell any of this later?
