Still surprises me how such a difficult game got so much traction.

I remember last gen, everyone complaining about their fave shooters getting watered down and turned into short-attention span titles that tried to chase that COD train.

Just goes to show how a large number of fans really want to be challenged.

That perfect pasta sauce.

;)

But I agree, it's nuts how popular it is, the thrill of this game is amazing.

I am really not sure if this game is GPU bound, not CPU bound. There is no proof that this game would be running better at 720p...if it's CPU bound, which probably is.
Here's the game at 720p:

Here's the game at 1440p:

CPU usage remains high no matter what resolution is selected, this is on lowest settings (I normally play with a mix of settings and GSYNC). GPU of the XBX is certainly up to snuff, but the CPU is definitely causing issues somewhere. I'm running an i5 3570k for reference with a GTX 1070. Hopefully they can squeeze that 60fps they were aiming for, but who knows.

What's with the comments wanting Microsoft to buy up the game?

Then it wouldn't come out for the PS4 peeps.

:/

I think what you are seeing, is a game that appeals to the "older than COD Crowd" for lack of better words, but it also appeals to the COD crowd too.

I'm almost 40, and playing TDM shooters makes me want to vomit now (and I played COD pretty much from the jump, through BLOPS2), but PUBG, FNBR, just bring a tense tactical feeling to gaming, and I think it resonates across more demographics than "spawn run shoot kill die spawn run die spawn kill kill die" does. Every match is like a short story set after the apocalypse.

This is one of the poorest running and ugliest games I've played in a looooong time, at least on the S. But god damn, I can't wait to get back to it this evening. Really hope they can clean up the performance at some point, as I'm not sure I want to spend the money on an X any time soon.

I've seen lots of comments about the game being too dark - I'm not playing on an HDR set and for me It just feels way too contrasty, more so than too dark. It's really hard on the eyes at times, not sure why there are no sliders for it.

Does anyone know if you can access the controls menu outside of a match? I know there are are screengrabs floating around, but I don't want to be poking around on my phone when I'm playing.

"arriving today as a console launch exclusive"

If I were MS, I'd bend over backwards to lock this up.

Makes perfect sense from a business perspective but even as an Xbox player without a PS4, I'm still not keen on MS or Sony paying cash to keep shit off other platforms. They should focus on making stuff themselves. Unless they're funding the game of course /OT.

That Mixer thing is fucking awesome though.

I watched some streams but it feels like most of the game is just walking around looking for equipment. I'm sure the fights are intense because if you lose you're out but maybe it's something I need to play to really understand.

I think Bioshock's creator was also praising Siege a few days ago and saying it plays out like a single player game. Lots of tension, use of sound, strategy, etc.

And yes, PUBG's encounters feel very much like contained stories.

At this point, I just want more. I loved LOU's multiplayer for similar reasons, and the Ghost Wars in Wildlands is also very appreciated by fans.

Please stop suggesting for MS to buy Bluehole. I will cry if it doesnt come to PS4.

I am quiet excited to see what happens though, you just know MS wants to buy it out. This is a game that's going to last as long as Counterstrike.
The likelihood is very slim.
They already tried. Several other companies would be interested, too.
I don't see it happen

its something u only understand once u play it. some matches leave ur nerves shot, hand shakes uncontrollably and need to take at least 2-3 mins rest when the round ends

Oh I completely agree, the more people that get to experience it the better. I hate the idea of moneyhatted exclusives, but I completely understand them from a business perspective.

Man, I'm actually pretty stoked to check this out after work. Not like I'm driving anywhere with the weather doing what it is.

Siege and PUBG seemingly excel at emergent experiences way more than other shooters.

After six games I finally got my first kill. #feelsgoodman Then i got melted by the storm. Also finding out that right bumper turns on first person is golden.

Can someone explain the game preview? Does this means when they release the actual game I will need to buy again or do I automatically get the full release?

Has anybody tried that with a Elite controller and paddles yet?

I did, albeit just for a couple rounds and without spending much time customizing the set up. I'm going to wait until I'm more familiar/more comfortable with the controls before trying to put something together.

For now, I was just using 2 paddles (my personal preference) and had crouch/prone on the left and reload on the right. Crouch/prone on a paddle was nice, but reload on the right paddle was fucking fantastic given how this game handles reloading with having to hold the button for the duration. Being able to still control both axis while reloading has already proved to be invaluable in a closer quarters firefight.

Can someone who buys the game, before playing your first match, check the leaderboard and see where it says they are?

Is the Mixer Hypezone thing threadworthy? I think that's a pretty cool and new concept. Can't make the thread myself but think it should be called out!

Thank you for simple analysis, I though that this would be a problem, but what is so CPU intensive? I study software engineering, so I am not really sure....
I'm not very technically inclined, but the map is a massive 8x8 km (a lot is water, though the desert map has very little water) with lots of grass, trees, and a large view distance.

Just fired it up on the S, definitely worse than X performance but still playable and fun. Basically everyone should be jumping in at this point.

Yeah sure, but once it's loaded, there is no reason to "look" that far, only thing that should matter to client is people in vicinity or those who can kill you or you can kill them.

Australian here! I regret buying it as it is absolutely unplayable, so buy at your own risk. The network lag is atrocious, the framerate stutters and it looks like a ps2 game at best on an XboxOne S. When you enter a house, it takes around 10 seconds for the furniture to load. The only two servers available is Europe and North America. Australians get shafted again. I'm so disappointed because I've been waiting to play this for months now. :(

They've added some more servers now, hopefully it will be better now

Well I played 3 matches last night. Didn't get a single kill in any of the matches. I guess I'm pretty awful at this game, lol. I didn't really have any performance issues, and never got disconnected so that's good. Looks pretty decent on the X. Looking forward to trying it out with friends and seeing if that's a better experience. I thought this would be more fun by myself, but maybe not. haha

I wonder how long it'll take them to match up the Xbox version with the PC version in terms of features and update cadence?

It sounds like the second map should be hitting the Xbox version in spring.

Game Preview games are work in progress games, you take on the risk of the game being glitchy and broken until it is fixed. The reward is getting to play it before the game is released and usually having paid less than the retail price.

Yeah, like I said I got no clue. I just know CPU usage remains pretty high at all times. Someone else can explain all these things much better than I!

Getting a squad game with 3 people is nearly impossible. Myself and 2 friends have been trying for about an hour. There should be an option to make a 3 man team.

I now understand why 3 people were teaming in solo earlier.

More tips to new people.
-Really, like I said in my last post, play with a headset.
-Look for broken windows when you're looking to see where you got shot from.
-Alternatively, break windows if you're camping in a building with your fists if you think you're the first one there. If you have a silencer or flash hider if you start shooting it can make it hard for people to find where the shots came from.
-When scoping out a building, learn what doors are open/closed all the time inside buildings. People frequently shut the outside doors but not so on the inside doors. This might help you find someone.

There is on PC, strange that didn't come over.

Just played my first 3 matches on Xbox One X and it is really fun, Looks pretty good on the X as well and it runs fine once on the ground and plying. I've watched alot of PC streams and the X versions look better than most of the configs these streamers use. Alot of PC guys nuke as much vegetation as possible to see players hiding better. The Xbox version will be much more fair in this regard.

Over all after just playing a few matches really like it and this will be a blast to play over the holidays. Great timing to deliver this now.

This option is already on the PC 1.0 test server and I imagine coming to XBOX soon.

edit: on PC you can do

solo or solo squad (get teamed with 3 randoms)
duos or 2 person squad (2 mates, 2 randoms)
3 person squad (3 mates, 1 random)
4 squad
