My comment about it being in Game Preview on Xbox One was in reply to someone calling the game on Xbox One shoddy. The game is in preview and has been in preview for less than 1 day so far. Not sure where GOTY talk came from or how my post is implying anything to do with GOTY.
Your post just happened to be a reflection of the ACTUAL state of PUBG. Not saying your post is an example of people lobbying for it to be eligible for GOTY. I'm saying your post is accurate which makes it hard for me to understand the other people who say this (clearly) unfinished game should be in contention for GOTY. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Wonder if there will be any Xbox Elite Controller layouts for this, or if you'll be able to use some of the additional controls to do toggles for ADS/etc. Probably not, but the configs probably so.

.. also man the Microsoft store in your browser is such a piece of shit. It seriously never works how I expect it to. The login is weird, after you login it still shows "sign in" until you usually click on the Xbox link, the store is odd with tons of refreshes and weird logins. I went to buy the game and it just popped up with a gray modal that... had nothing in it, and now every time I go to the Microsoft store site it gives me a form submission error.... So odd. It's been a piece of shit like this for years, really I think since X1 launch because they have to support both the X360 store (which is very old) and the X1 store, but it just makes this super clunky experience.

I almost always have to launch an incognito window and go through the process twice.

While I don't think it's cheating/indefensible, your "everyone has the option" argument isn't great. Everyone has the option for all manner of things, and a lot of folks buy consoles expecting a "level" playing field and also a simplified input/remote method (controller).
And a lot of folks buy consoles and play them with Elite controllers on gaming monitors and special headsets designed to make footsteps louder. That's not the console demographic couch ideal either. And honestly I think it's a pretty small percentage had it in their minds that "level playing field for online multiplayer" when they decided on getting a console. They get consoles because they're cheaper, simpler in general, have exclusives, and are more suited to TV use.

To me it's a strange position to occupy where you acknowledge that your preferred input method is inferior but that people shouldn't figure out a way to use a better input method because you need to be the best at the inferior method.

Calm down, I can read - no need for caps.

I'm not entirely sure it being in preview is much of an excuse when they're happy to charge £20+ with no trial. The game isn't exactly being marketed by MS as a preview game, they're plastering it as a game release all over their social media and in emails. IMO we've got every right to judge the game as it stands, which at the moment, again in my opinion, is shoddy.

Jesus.. please don't buy a game in Game Preview or Early Access again.

Well, the XIM is intentionally designed to be used on consoles so.....? And everyone has the option of getting a XIM so your arguments are 0 for 2.

But if you *actually* care why I use a XIM. It's because I like KB+M for shooters. I initially got a XIM3 back in the COD Black Ops days because my PC wasn't very good and COD was terrible to play on PC post COD4. In more recent years I've gotten better PC hardware and would prefer to play there in general but use the XIM to play with my more numerous console-only friends.

Ironically I end up using my Xbox controller a lot on PC for Rocket League since I solo queue that for the most part, and M+K on Xbox for team based shooters. I don't really see the latter as any worse than the former. I'm just picking the right controls for the right games.

Nothing ironic about using Xbox controller on PC at times, use the right control tool for the job.

The right tool for this game on Xbox is controller though. XIM is a restriction skirting device equivalent to using a sniper rifle in an archery competition. I hope they can detect and ban eventually. It makes console gaming less fun because 'we' (the normal's, playing as it's meant to be played, by the rules) lose more than we otherwise would, and you (people skirting restrictions) win more than you otherwise would.

So, I don't have an Xbox and am not able to play PUBG on it, but I am curious about something and am hoping someone in this thread can answer. How's the inventory system work? Really interested in seeing how they adapt from the m+k layout to console control.

I never said you couldn't, I just said your one argument doesn't hold up (and it doesn't).

More on to what you said in this specific response, getting a (slightly) better version of the same input method is entirely different than using an entirely different input method.

GPU probably isn't the problem in this game so I can totally see this game at 4K in X. It's the huge island, geometry and player count that gets the CPU and framerate in trouble.

Yeah it kind of defeats the point of calling it a Game Preview if you can't actually preview it; I always assumed it was a standard feature for all of the Preview titles.

Do refunds work on Preview titles?

'Game Preview' is really the same thing as early access. It doesn't mean you get a free preview. Comparing this to other 'Game Preview' titles with a free hour trial, this is loads better than those...in my opinion.

Just found out that you need to push up to pull the front end up on a motor bike. Went over a jump and pushed down to lift the front end (just like in GTA) only to flip the bike and kill myself.

Edit: and I've just had my first hard crash. :-(

Thankfully you can simply reconnect to your running game session.

Every game should have this really. I was surprised they already have this feature built in.

Using a KB+M on a console is not the same as buying the Xbox One Elite controller, which is sold and promoted by Microsoft. The Elite controller doesn't really give any advantage in any games... The button layout is customizable, and the paddles are nice, but nobody is going to suddenly become a noticeably better player at a game using the Elite controller than a regular one. The Elite controller is like going from a standard, average keyboard that might ship with your computer, to a nice mechanical keyboard. That is to say, it's much nicer to play with a mechanical keyboard, and it is more comfortable and responsive to play with, but it's not going to suddenly turn someone who isn't very good at a game into a good player, or give someone that much more of an advantage.

Meanwhile, using 3rd party hardware to bypass manufacturer hardware & software lockout to use a keyboard and a mouse to a console for competitive games is entirely different than an official controller. Now, I definitely do not think it's cheating, but be honest... You do it to get an advantage, because keyboard + mouse offers a clear advantage in many games, you don't do it just because you prefer the aesthetics or something. It's specifically for an advantage in shooter or RTS games. Again, I don't think it's cheating or anything, but just be honest, you want a definitive advantage over other players and keyboard + mouse provides that definitive advantage. There's a reason most of these devices are banned in competitive console play and people who use them are typically suspended or banned from tournaments, or at least, shamed heavily. There have been games in the past that have welcomed them, like Unreal Tournament 2007 for Xbox 360 and PS3 (IIRC), but games like Destiny, Overwatch, Halo, and others, have specifically disallowed KB+M for ingame controls, and these devices are explicitly used to bypass the way that the console manufacturer and software developer has designed the game.

I think the only justified reason for using devices like these that bypass the hardware security in the console to add 3rd party control inputs is for people with disabilities. If you can't enjoy the game because of a disability and you use one of these things, then I think that's totally on the up and up. ANd maybe some people will say that they have a disability because they're not used to using a controller, but many of those people are probably lying to themselves.

Are there any server issues or problems or is the game progressing smoothly? I'm picking up my Early Access copy soon.

This specifically mentions first person, but I thought the first person addition wasn't coming till post-launch on consoles? I bought it but hven't been able to play yet to see.

This sounds like a shitty port... I guess it will take them a while to get it to work. :(

it's a spot on port.... e.g., heaps of issues :-D

Until they fix sound direction/placement - the game is basically unplayable with headphones.

Their sound engineers are goddamn terrible. This is by the far the worst sound implementation I've ever heard in a game.

None of the placement in the speakers is correct and it's game breaking to me.

I think your ears are broken, it works fine here for me on my A40's.

Game does not have aim assist. Using a m+kb on game with no aim assist is an advantage against a controller player. Controller player has to use their thumb to aim, person using a mouse has their whole arm and wrist to do so. There is no argument and I would like to see you give me one in regards to this. At the end of the day, people are going to use what they are going to use, but do not come in here mentioning a high kill chicken dinner when you are playing at an advantage.

Vgtech has a video up, I'm in mobile currently. But mean framerate is 28.7 fps on the X without airship, with it's 26.6 fps.
