Starting hands decide a whole lot of games. Basically it feels like you have to play control to be able to make decisions.

edit: for Zoukka: I don't count spell hunter because it's basically dictated by the few specific spell hunter cards released by Blizzard. Control lock maybe but it's just a returning deck now that it got some good cards. Please understand that I come from a MtG background. There's new and unexpected stuff coming up all the time.

Yall know I usually try to not being negative

But I'm very certain this will go down as worst expansion

Corridor Creeper is the closest thing to undertaker and plague the meta

Even if nerf happened asap theres a ton unbearable cheat card that released in kobold that totally unfun to play against

Call to Arms, Spiteful Summoner and Grand Archivist already found their way to be abused and if those are as meta defining as jade and patches are we cant even hope rotation will fix something.

Spell hunter is a completely new list. DemonLock has like 4-5 new cards. I've seen new Taunt Druid and Big Spell Mage lists...

Literally no new deckbuilding.

I'm not sure what you mean by new deck building. I achieved a positive winrate after 20 games with a Voraxx/Lynessa deck and a spellstone shaman deck I made myself. I imagine those will get worse in the coming weeks, but it's not like Un'Goro where everything was basically prebuilt for you and experimenting with anything was pointless.

Or if you want to netdeck a brand new feeling deck, I saw kibler at rank 1 with big spell mage, and dog in top 100 with a Kingsbane mill rogue. Those seem worth playing if you have the cards.

I guess it's a little disappointing that tier 1 and most of tier 2 are likely going to be very similar to what we had before release. On that front, you can join me in experimenting with patches in priest. I find it feels very different from the old highlander priest, and hsreplay has a near 60% winrate with patches priest decks, so they do seem like high tier contenders.

Now this I can agree with. I think it's been more fun than usual in this first week, but the settling meta is already becoming pretty terrible.

Took this deck to rank 10. Yeah it is lower ranks and people aren't too dialed in what meta there is quite yet, but 12-0 is 12-0. This mid range hunter variation is really clicking with me, Dire Mole and Flanking Strike do work. I have only actually used Deathstalker Rexxar once, but it saved my ass in a mirror. Haven't seen a whole lot of control decks so it hasn't been needed really.

I assume we will see that a lot now that hunter has reliable access to the pirate package thanks to candleshot. Pirate package combined with hunter hero power seems really strong to me.

anyone figured out any applications for zola the gorgon? got the card from my release day packs.

I haven't seen any uses that weren't clunky. someone used her to copy their velen but would have like had lethal if it was simply a mirage caller.

it's bad tempo and clunky for combos. at least in standard. I can see it in wild with aviana/kun decks.

Patches in priest wasn't exactly meta but there were Keleseth Highlander and regular lists floating around during KotFT

running patches in hunter was already meta, None weapon classes just ran Bloodsail Corsair over Deckhand to pull him.

I got my month in Hearthstone email (thanks again to whoever it was that helped me set that up, I can't recall, I'm sorry).

12 win streak on the ladder, 80% winrate as Warlock vs Druid, 111 games won and played against people from 37 different countries.

I figured out the meta!

patches/creeper decks <* priest < control warlock < patches/creeper decks

patches creeper deck vs patches creeper deck -> roll dice, who got creeper in hand.

priest sometimes beats patches/creeper deck.

Can't wait for the rotation to totally mess with Priest and put them back to where they were.

Only to have Blizzard print more stupid OP cards.

To be fair though, I'm more concerned long term about OP neutrals ala Reynad instead.

I'm sad that Blizzard printed all this cool priest cards 2 years after I stopped playing the class because I got the Golden portrait.

Well, I guess that it was cool to play on that time when your best card was a fully healed injured blademaster

I can't beat the dungeon run with priest at all. I've tried dragon, resurrect and unique decks. I've got Priest and Mage left.

Finally beat the warrior dungeon run. Half impossible to get good synergy with it. Thank fuck for the magic cube and the last boss not realizing his vorpal blade had mega windfury.

Giving Priest burst was probably a bigger mistake than giving hunter really good cheap draw would be.

Also Pirates in general.

Blizz has announced that DK Rexaar will be getting the new beasts. They say it will take some time to implement though.

It was the right decision but I'm slightly confused as to how this is a big deal for them. But I suppose they have to create a card for every possible outcome.
That's awesome, I'm glad they changed their mind after seeing the community outcry. I thought it was silly myself, considering how big globally Blizzard is for man power.

If only they had the financial resources to allocate to such a task...

That's good to hear. I just wish hunter wasn't so terrible. The DK has rarely won me a game that I wasn't already winning. In most cases it's wrong to use it.

The times I've gotten it in rogue or priest on the other hand....

It's good for Hearthstone that they caved to the pressure. It's not a big deal by itself, but they're the number one digital ccg. To start cheaping out on rules and gameplay maintenance would be a bad road. No upside except saving a few man hours, and lots of potential issues for future designs.

Finally finished dungeon run with Shaman.
Double battle cry + 2 Death Knights did the trick. Quadruple evol is freaking amazing.

I took the Grand Archivist/Spiteful Summoner Dragon Priest deck from hsreplay and fixed the obvious flaw of it not having Patches and Keleseth in it like any good priest deck should. Also bone drake for a glimmerroot because I don't feel like crafting a second glimmerroot right now.

Code:
### Grand Dragon Priest
# Class: Priest
# Format: Standard
# Year of the Mammoth
#
# 2x (1) Northshire Cleric
# 1x (1) Patches the Pirate
# 1x (2) Prince Keleseth
# 1x (3) Curious Glimmerroot
# 2x (3) Kabal Talonpriest
# 2x (3) Southsea Captain
# 2x (3) Tar Creeper
# 2x (4) Duskbreaker
# 2x (5) Cobalt Scalebane
# 2x (5) Drakonid Operative
# 2x (6) Bone Drake
# 2x (6) Spiteful Summoner
# 2x (7) Bonemare
# 2x (7) Corridor Creeper
# 2x (8) Free From Amber
# 1x (8) Grand Archivist
# 2x (10) Mind Control
#
AAECAZ/HAgSRvALZwQKc4gLQ5wINCKgF8gy6uwLwuwLKwwKZyALHywLKywKmzgL70wLL5gLX6wIA
#
# To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

EDIT: This deck probably needs more dragons anyway with the removal of netherspite historian. Added second Bone Drake and updated deck in this post.

God I'm getting burned out on this game after all. Feels like there's no decision space at all. You can play correctly and that's it. No strategies, just play your shit on curve and hope you draw answers. This may be the game that takes me back to the trainwreck that is MtGO.

It feels like that sometimes and for some games it's true, especially if your deck is built to curve out. The reality is there are lots of decisions every turn, but most people miss them for various reasons. Between watching streamers, tournaments and spectating other I've found that even the simplest turns can be played multiple ways.

I have a longer post on the subject in the works.
