Anyone have any advice on how to take care of skin tags? I have one on my abdomen I'd like to get rid of but not sure the best way to go about it... A lot of the solutions I've found online sound a bit new agey to me :I

I never heard that one should wear sunscreen on a daily basis.

My morning routine only consists of cleaning with the La Roche Posay Effaclar cleaner and the appropriate moisturizer. Currently I am trying the collection by Avene which my dermatologist gave me. I really hope that I will one day beat the acne I am now fighting for nearly 10 years.

Go to a dermatologist and get them removed, maybe? Usually they are removed by surgery, I believe.

Really? Where do you live? It is something very recommended in Asian skincare since always [Japan, Korea and China at least]. In sunny countries [like mine] you also hear it ALL THE TIME - specially to prevent skin cancer and this kind of thing. It is also recommended that you never expose yourself to the sun between 10:00am and 16:00pm for the same reason.

Wow. I live in Germany and was never told something like this. Only in summertime when going to the beach or being outside for a long time. Only read about this when I took some medicine for my acne that I should avoid direct sun contact for a long time but besides that sunscreen is a product mostly sold in the summer for mostly occasional use, not to implement it in your daily morning routine.

The different recommendations actually make a lot of sense for both our countries [btw, I live in Brazil], but it is really interesting to notice this kind of thing. I suppose since you don't get as much sun in Germany as you have here [in my state, the sun sometimes is so strong that you tan/burn even using a parasol] the sunscreen isn't THAT necessary. This is actually very curious since yesterday I was watching that Dark series and for a moment I didn't understand why all services were working in the 'middle of the night' - until I realized the twilight was a lot early in the day in some months [here it never changes, you have sun from 6:00am to 6:00pm the whole year].

I have a moisturizer cream, but I dont use it unless I go out and have dry skin. Should I be using it nightly?

As for the pimples, I started using st ives scrub is which is to help with breakouts and acne

Most of these are on my forehead. I feel like I have a lot of blemishes and dots that arent pimples, but just like scars. How do i get rid of that?

Is the scrub going to work? I dont understand the science of rubbing and scrubbing this on my face. What does it do that soap doesnt?

Thanks

I think you should use your cream nightly, because dry skin can produce sebum to compensate the need of moisture/hydration and cause more acne/breakouts. But be sure it suits your skin well, if you don't like it, I suggest the Clean Clear moisturizer with salycilic acid - it is light and meant to help with this issues.

Be careful about the scrub, because they are supposed to remove the dead skin and prevent your pores from being clogged, but they can hurt even more if your skin is already irritated - I personally would recommend a chemical exfoliant instead. Check the early pages in the thread, the OP explains in detail the disadvantages of scrubs.

So instead of a scrub I should use a "chemical exfoliant"

Ill check it out thanks!

Did you notice any improvement on your skin since you stopped wearing 'face' makeup products? I am kinda in a transition. I wore foundation and full makeup looks everyday some time ago, but since I started to work in the morning shift I don't really have the will to do it. I like makeup quite a lot, but more in the 'creative' side [with colorful lipstick, eye shadows] than the 'corrective' side, so now I kinda wear lipstick, eyebrow pencil, single eye shadow, blush, a creamy light foundation as 'concealer' and sometimes mascara, but I still depend on face powder [compact] to control my oiliness during the day - and I think it is responsible for many of my problems, but I don't really know what to do yet. I feel like if I don't wear it I get shiny as a plastic doll and when I wear it my cheeks dry out and the skin gets flaky - it is really a bummer.

I honestly am not sure if the improvements are from not using makeup or from the recent skincare changes. My tzone is also oily but I use those oil blotting sheets to control.

I also had problems with dry cheeks when I used bb cream. It helped when I used a bb cream primer along with lotion.

Hydroquinone is what a plastic surgeon suggested. I think the stronger stuff requires a prescription. She recommended Obagi (sp?)

Like salicylic acid, which is a chemical exfoliant.

Personally I love ORG facial peel. But, I also use salicylic acid wipes.

This scrub has 2% salicylic acid

2% is a nice amount for starters, and salicylic acid is awesome - the problem is the damage that the micro-beads can cause to already irritated skin. However, if it is not a harsh one, you can use it without bigger problems. I still use mine twice a month [it's sand-like, almost] but the thing about the chemical ones is that they are more effective cleaning inside the pores and you can use it more times a week.

Yeah I've heard great things about OGX. I'm still wondering if I should buy the Shea Moisture one or this one.

Thank you. I shall try some leave in mask like that. You mix conditioner and argan oil? And then what? Just apply it?

Mix the oil and conditioner and just apply it and either run it through your hair with fingers or use a wide comb brush, depends on your hair texture.

I honestly don't see a point in my life where I wouldn't be wearing at least a BB cream. I have nice skin now and I'm not ashamed to go out without makeup or anything, but at the same time I love that 'perfect' and dewy look. I actually wanted to do just concealer at some point, but I am so extremely pale and they don't really make concealers in my shade, not even Korean ones. Funny thing actually - I initially started Korean makeup because it was the only brands that would go super pale and it would match my skin perfectly. The real irony is that western brands where you get more naturally pale people don't have such shades, while Asians, who are naturally more tan do.

Acne scars take a long time to fade. The best thing you can do is treat the pimples without popping them as that will leave a scar and hyperpigmentation for longer, try to calm them and make them disappear with acne spot creams.
For fading use sunscreen daily and any creams that contain niacinamide help even out skintone.

It sounds to me like you have no routine at all. The pimples aren't something you wait to happen and then treat, same goes for dry/oily skin.
It's something you incorporate into your daily routine to avoid from happening, not damage control once in happens.

You need to cleanse daily, then use the moisturiser. If you use the moisturiser on uncleaned face, then it will make things far worse and increase the acne/oiliness.

Ideally you'd get a cleanser -> toner -> moisturiser, but at the very least a cleanser and moisturiser and a spot treatment for the acne.

ACNE Spot Treatments I'd recommend:
CosRx Acne Pimple Patch (only use after doing your routine, go to bed with it on, it will reduce any swelling)
Skinmiso Spot Repairing Serum (this has done wonders for my skin)

You know what. I get dry chin a lot with the BB cream alone, but I started mixing some oil into my cream and I've had this nice dewy finish and it stays on longer and nicer.
What I do is use Missha BB cream with 1-2 drops of the Innisfree Facial Olive Oil, then finish up with the Innisfree no sebum powder (very lightly with a tiny brush). I've found this to be the best way to apply 'perfect skin' for all day long.

I love oiling up my skin in the winter, it's like the best feeling ever. :'D

The ORG mineral facial peel sounds great, I watched some videos and it seems to be not irritating at all. I think I'll get it.

Do you guys have any experience with the Context skincare stuff? I've been using Kyoku products for over a year now but I'm not really that satisfied anymore. Particularly in winter, the cleanser really dries out my skin. And I still haven't found a good moisturizer for my oily, sensitive skin and acne prone skin.

Could someone of you who knows his stuff have a look at this please? It's a German product by some pharmacists. Here are the INCIS:

INCIS:
Aqua, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Pentylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Phosphatidylcholine, Squalane, Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Panthenol, Pichia/Resveratrol Ferment Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Ubiquinone, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Retinyl Palmitate, Zinc Stearate, Ceramide NP, Cetyl Alcohol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid

This is the product (expensive af): https://shop.beyer-soehne.de/products/hautcreme

More a fun fact than anything [since you are more into Korean products], but did you checked out the new Fenty foundations? They have a shade that is almost geisha-ish, so pale. I absolutely love the pale skin look [on other people, since I am a light olive skin].

Also looking for these Innisfree No Sebum products that you recommended to me. It seems just like what I need to solve my problem with oiliness.

So a little update.
I went to the doctor about the chronic dryness mainly in my beard and stubble (I wrote about on a previous page). He quickly recognized it as a type of dermatitis and gave me two creams, one was a steroid cream to use short term to stem the inflammation (it often gets red and itchy) and another is an anti-fungal cream to stop the dryness which I should use for as long as the dryness flares up. Three days later using day and night and my beard isn't dry at all and the redness is quickly clearing up too. First time I've been able to have a wash in about two years and not have dryness within minutes of finishing! Feelsgoodman.

You know what, I was SO EXCITED about Fenty and their shades, but the actual product is just so crap I decided not to waste my money on it.
I got a few testers of it and I watched most of the youtube reviews and everything was pretty consistent - it oxidises, it's extremely dry and patchy, it doesn't last long and it gets really ugly throughout the day.

FYI, the palest shade, shade 1, you just called Geisha, is actually my tone. :'D

EDIT: I think the best BB cream I've used so far is the Klairs Illuminating Supple Blemish cream - it is everything they advertise it to be, it looks like skin, so natural most people assume I don't have anything on, however it is a tiny bit too dark for me. If you're anything from ivory to like natural tan it is perfect. My perfect shade is Missa 21 or Innisfree C13 but they're not as natural as the Klairs one. I'm actually hoping more Korean brands follow the Innisfree example and expand their range.

I got it in a sample box and was skeptical because normally most exfoliaters make my skin hurt a lot.. but naw this one is great. You can get it on sale for like $18 (or on ebay).

Ooh... I'm intrigued. I use Missha, but it's a shade too light for me.

I'd like something natural when I do want more coverage. However, I guess I've sort of just embraced my less than perfect skin. ionno. I'll add this Klairs stuff to my list of maybes.

I REALLY wish someplace sold samples of things. I know skinfood and missha did samples, but nothing for Klairs as far as I can tell... :(

Apparently US only. In the EU you pay almost 50€ for this... that's a bit excessive compared to the original price...

Ok, so I have this Aloevera gel thats supposed to make my skin glow and remove spots

The rest of the description is in a native language as my family got it from back home

Should I just put some on every night before bed?

So my routine would be, face scrub, and then that aloe vera at night. And then moisturizer in the day.

My sis also has some face mask but I cant recall what it does. Is it ok to just be putting this stuff on my face without knowing what its exactly for, in the hopes that it ultimately improves my skin?

I understand! I saw so much hype around it that I got a little curious, but since I am not a fan of foundation and concealer as in the American kardashianesque trend, I didn't bother to go after it. And, aww, pale skin is so beautiful! That shade you said it was yours is just gorgeous [mine is the 180 shade - tried 2 Korean bb creams in the shade '21' and they fitted ok]. I was watching The Crown this weekend and was mesmerized about how Claire Foy's skin is beautiful: Translucent, glowy and so fair.

About Korean bb creams, I recently tried Missha's MISA Cho Bo Yang BB Cream and was very excited about it - I am not the biggest fan of natural treatments except if it is an pure oil, but I confess I have a weak spot for Hangbang beauty - but the experience was terrifying. I had a sample, in the shade #23 and it let me extremely fantasmagoric and grey. It also has a high coverage, which I didn't expect to find in a bb cream - the texture, by the way, is extremely creamy and pleasant, and it doesn't peel off even if you rub pretty hard and use a beauty blender to apply it. It leaves a satin look, and evens out the skin tone nicely without looking too artificial - so I believe if I tried my right shade it would be a great option for special occasions [the coverage is a little too much for my daily makeup].

So this thread got me into switching up my routines for my skin. I picked up a couple of the products recommended and have been following the advice. It's been about a month and it's been pretty good thus far! Skin usually feels much smoother. I still get oily skin on my forehead and nose but I'm hoping that eventually stops. I noticed a few pimples pop up but I like to believe that's my skin adjusting to the change. It's been good though and I appreciate all the info in here!

Lately, over the last several months, I've had an inordinate amount of ingrown hairs sprouting (or not, rather) all over my body and I have no fucking clue what to do. Is this just part of getting old and gross? I don't shave anything.

Where and what was everyones best facial / body scrub?

Mine would be a toss up between {both were couple sessions}:

Talise Spa - LA PRAIRIE SIGNATURE ELEMENT
La Prairie Signature Elements is designed to balance body, mind and spirit, leaving you feeling blissfully rejuvenated. The treatment is a head to toe process using natural, specially-sourced crystal healing stones. The skin is firstly exfoliated and a La Prairie Hydralift Firming Mask applied. Face, neck and décolleté are then prepared for the soothing full body, face and neck crystal stone massages. Following the massages, indulgent La Prairie skincare is applied to the facial areas and décolleté before the body is enveloped in soothing Cellular Energising Body Lotion.

Thanks for this thread, just been giving the OP and a few of the later threads a good read.

I've always suffered with oily skin and blackheads and never had any kind of routine outside of washing my face with shampoo while I do my hair!

I'm going off the OP's recommended starter routine of Cleanser, Exfoliater and then Moisturizer but trying to get equivalent products I can find in the UK.

1. For Cleanser I've found the same Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser on Amazon which is good.

2. For Exfoliator I've found Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Clearing Facial Wash (http://amzn.eu/4XwptKV). Does it look any good? Says alcohol free and 2% Salicylic Acid/BHA.

3. For Moisturizer I've found Nivea Men Sensitive Moisturiser which has 0% alochol and supposedly helps block UVA/B rays (not that we have that much sun in the UK lol).

Grateful for any advice on the above!

Re: skin care order-

So this thread got me into switching up my routines for my skin. I picked up a couple of the products recommended and have been following the advice. It's been about a month and it's been pretty good thus far! Skin usually feels much smoother. I still get oily skin on my forehead and nose but I'm hoping that eventually stops. I noticed a few pimples pop up but I like to believe that's my skin adjusting to the change. It's been good though and I appreciate all the info in here!

Yay :D.

This thread ALSO motivated me to step up my skincare and after a month it's been wonderful. I don't wear bb cream anymore, at all! Nothing on my face, not concealer or highlighter or perfecter or anything!

By no means is my skin perfect-- I still get wicked hormonal chin cysts, but other than that... I feel amazing. I think my skin is smoother but I'm afraid to touch it haha.

For those of y'all familiar with nonAsian beauty brands:

I've honestly been debating between La Prairie's Anti Aging Day Lotion and Creme de la Mer. Also, I've been looking at La Prairie's under eye cream (the Caviar Luxe Fill), but I'm not sure if I should just go with La Mer's Concentrate (which I got a sample of and does WONDERS for fresh wounds).

I'm tempted to just say fuck it and go with Shiseido and Sulwahoo (sp) though. Their stuff seems comparable, but much cheaper.

Great thread!

Dermatology is important. I'm in my 30s now and I've been using sunscreen every day since I was 18. I look a lot younger than most men my age.

Right now my routine consists of a milky cleanser (it's winter here, and quite cold), an antioxidant serum, a peptide serum, and rose hip seed oil. I slather on a moisturizer as well, if needed, under my sunscreen, which is an SPF 50 mineral sunscreen with UVA/UVB filters.

At night my routine is pretty much the same, but I alternate between a retinoid (vitamin a derivative), an AHA (my skin likes lactic aid), or a stronger vitamin c serum.

For those with normal/dry skin, I can recommend some products for you.

I never heard that one should wear sunscreen on a daily basis

It's the most important step in skincare.

Most signs of imperfections as we age—hyperpigmentation, age spots, wrinkles, scars, etc.—are caused by sun exposure.

No matter what skin type you are, even if you're prone to acne, you should use sunscreen.

If you are including active skincare ingredients in your routine, like AHA, BHA, Vit C, Retinol/Retinoid, etc., then you should especially use sunscreen.

So can I apply this after my Cleanser,Exfoliating and Moisturizer or before?

placenta-firming-hydro-gel-eye-patch-berrisom.jpg

Also it says to remove these after 20-30 mins?

Before moisturiser, for as long as you're able. They should start feeling dry after 25-30min, depends on your skin. Anything from 15min until they're dry is beneficial, but the moisturiser is the top layer, keeping it all there and working, so always do that last.

I'll sound like a broken record now, but it really is not a factor.
Even if you live in Iceland, you should be using sunscreen daily. I like in the UK and do it every day, winter including. The benefits are too great and the fact that you do not see the sun doesn't mean it's not there and damaging your skin over time.

Could you explain the difference of a sleeping pack and a regular moisturizer and a night cream? I read a lot about it, but I am not sure if one replaces the other. And also, when you wear a facial oil? Always?

I can recommend you Sulwhasoo, it is working well for me. I am using their Essential Firming Cream as an eye cream and it brightened my eye area quite a lot, made my little lines softer and reduced the puffiness around the eyes [but it also have a herby smell, in case you don't like it].

Do you think that the rose hip oil is worth a long term use? I have been using it for almost a month now, and even though I feel it gave me a nice moisture and brightness I didn't see the 'miraculous' effects I've seen preached all over the internet lol But I am open to use it more regularly if it helps me with my newborn fine lines </3

This is one of the best threads I have ever read on any forum. Ever.
I have just bought some stuff based on the advice given and I will update in a few weeks.
Oily but dry, large pores in places. Don't have spots or acne, but I hate my skin.
Thanks Leona and others

Just checking in after my first month using Paula's choice bha nightly and aha weekly with physiogel moisturiser (it's the only recommended one I could find in Hong Kong).
I've seen decent improvement already. Skin is smoother and less obvious blackheads. It also seems to have erased or started to erase some of what I can only guess were warts? I always just assumed it was just lumps in my skin, but some are gone and there's just one left that is noticeably smaller.
Does anybody know if physiogel is ok? I want to find a better one. Does Paula's sell any good moisturiser?

I can't say my pores look smaller, but they definitely aren't overflowing with blackheads like before. Though I guess they do stand out a bit more as like...Holes in my face lol. Oh well...

I love that SU:M37 Rose cleansing stick!

Also a sleeping pack is a heavy duty moisturiser with more staying power. It's not used during the day because it stays on long and works on your face longer. For example, I absolutely love the laneige lip sleeping mask, I put it on before bed, then it's still on in the morning and then I just exfoliate it from my lips and they are PERFECT. :D

When you're rinsing your face in the morning as well, you will feel the sleeping pack on your face. It's kind of like an overnight mask, rather than a moisturiser. I also put one after I've done my whole routine, moisturiser including. But I have really dry skin.

Sounds like you need a pore care cream to tighten the pores.
Also you're in HK? Man, that's so lucky. You get all the Korean skincare cheap there :D I'd go crazy K-beauty shopping if I was in HK lol

I'm still looking for a decent moisturizer for oily, acne-prone skin. Any recommendations? I've always got the feeling that I'm clogging my pores with cremes, I guess gels are the right thing in my case anyway.

My problem is that my skin gets oily very quickly but after washing it, even with stuff like Paulas Choice or things specifically for oily skin, non drying, my skin is really, really dry. I have no idea how to balance this...

The Spa by Ivanka Trump - COUPLES RITUAL + SEA CREATIONS EXPERIENCE
Harness the power of innovative, highly effective ingredients from the depths of the ocean. This lavish treatment lends skin an incomparably smooth, firm, and youthful appearance as a highly concentrated serum is applied with a tiger conch shell, followed by a luxurious cream that is massaged into the skin with heated obsidian stones and cool coral stones. A natural sea salt exfoliation and nourishing massage on the hands and feet, leave the skin looking radiant and youthful from head to toe.

So tabris, how rich are you exactly?

I can't really afford spa, unless it's a groupon, but the ones on groupon tend to be .... worse than the stuff I can get and do at home, but mostly just for the relaxation of having someone else do it for you, I suppose. A pamper.
I personally use a body shop gentle scrub with hazelnut oil for my body, I love the smell and the fact that it's not super harsh and leaves the body feeling moisturised. I wouldn't recommend it for oily skin types though, it's a bit too heavy for that, but perfect for dry skin.

Then I use a moisturising shea butter body milk or sometimes argan body oil, depends on the season. Argan oil for the winter. There's a nice spray-on one from Palmers.

I am very picky about body brushes and scrubs though. I have an organic series of brushes and scrub gloves from a local spa centre.
