Loved the non-gaming talk on the podcast this week. That's part of the reason why I love the Bombcast: aside from the games, it's fun just to listen to peeps you like talk about random shit.

I love when it's talk about life in Japan, or their jobs, but when it's about new TV shows from the US, it doesn't really fit why I listen to the podcast, and even if it did, I have to skip it, because I'm behind on the shows they're talking about.

Oh, the thread moved! 8-4 Play was impossible to search for on the old site and it's not much easier here, just sayin', (Yeah, watched threads, I know.)

Oh nice, did you get it early or what? Curious to see how that turned out!

Hmm, I'm a UK subscriber so I probably get it relatively early. It's quite small, three questions and a pic within the Undertale piece. 8-4 gets a mention in the main article too.

The 30+ page Final Fantasy feature is really good this month. I'm not that into the series but the history seems really interesting.

Another great episode.

And as others have been saying I really love the talk about life in Japan and stuff, still crack up thinking about JJ's drivers test.

Yep 8-4 is great when it is a mix of Japanese (non-gaming) things and gaming. Not too much of the non gaming stuff mind you, but there is a balance somewhere in between.

Personally, the thing that makes any episode of 8-4 god tier is when Sarah has a strong opinion and really pushes it. That always guarantees good fun.

Man, has this podcast really been around for seven years? Really love it. It's the closest to the old 1Up feel. I don't always catch it, though, so subbing this thread will help.

What's with the lack of Xenoblade talk last episode?

I actually want to hear what they thought about the localization. I really wanted to play with English VA, but there are some.. Strange choices about the VA's direction, particularly Nia. The talent wasn't bad at all but she sounds like a very different character from her Japanese counterpart.

Though maybe it's a bit awkward for them to talk about XC2? I dunno.

Well, since feedback is wanted: not a fan of the TV talk to be honest, but easy enough to skip. In the end it's always better to have a podcast where people actually want to talk about something, so you do you.

I feel like 8-4 is the only gaming people i listened to that get pocket camp. Their feelings on it really mirror mine, everyone else are too quick to shit on and dismiss it and not seeing it for what it is

Love the casual talk about their lives. Honestly, it's the part I usually look forward to the most. I know most people are here for the games and I am too; to an extent. I've been listening to 8-4 for a few years and my work has gotten in the way of playing a lot of games in the past year. So I understand their predicament of not always having tons of new games to discuss. Didnt mind the TV talk much, but I get the people that aren't into it. Stranger Things I have at least finished. Time stamps in the episode might help. And I also agree that discussion of localization would be interesting if time permitted. Even if it's months after a game released.

I'll echo an earlier sentiment: 8-4 needs merch. Shirt. Coffee mug. Whatever.

It depends. Like I watched Stranger Things and it was very divisive so of course that makes great discussion.

Unfortunately, Star Wars will be the eve of next podcast, so unless they flying getto tickets it'll be a whole month before their TLJ takes.

What I really like is stories like that Japanese Sake thanksgiving party. I really hope we get Jake back on to get more stories about these forest raves with yamachan. Mainly because no other podcast deals with these kinds of industry stories.

Yeah I got tickets to Star Wars on 12/14 (the premiere event) but as a result, we'll probably be recording on 12/13 that week...

Xanadu Next sounds good. How does Tokyo Xanadu compare to it? It's hitting the PS4 this week.
Tokyo Xanadu is much more like Zwei II in terms of gameplay and dungeon design (with speed, timing, breakables, damage taken, etc. all factoring into your dungeon rankings. Think of them like arcade-style dungeons that have skill-based point-scoring modifiers. It's also set in modern (2015) Japan, and has a high school setting. Heck, the main character of TX even uses a weapon similar to Ragna's Anchor Gear from Zwei II.

If you've played any recently developed Falcom game in the past 3-5 years or so, you have a good idea of what to expect. Good music, good gameplay, a neat little story that's easy to understand with a good ending, some cheesy stuff that's hit or miss in-between that's few in number, and a fleshed out game universe (in this case it's a city and its surrounding area, haha) of townspeople/classmates that grow alongside you, should you choose to interact with them and find out a little bit about what they're up to with each new story phase update.

The sheer amount of NPCs that have their own stories/progression is ridiculous, and is something I always find really helps me feel like the worlds Falcom builds are alive.

(I'm pretty much a Falcom fanboy by this point though, so it's okay if you're skeptical of what i'm saying. Figure i'll be upfront about that, haha.)

I enjoy the non gaming talk, it's why I love the CAG cast too, just friends hanging out chatting. I'm here to listen to them not exclusively just for games.

I just discovered the podcast thanks to this thread, and I listened to the 17/11 episode this morning. I really enjoyed it! I am definitely going to listen to it from now on.

I do miss the old schedule, because they used to come out on payday, so I still check my phone reflexively on those Fridays. OTOH, it makes non-payday Fridays a little better?

Excited to hear their take on the VGA and PSX announcements next week. New Bayo, new FROM, new Soul Calibur (I know that shit was hot in old Ziff offices).

I wish I had JJ as a friend in real life. He is a cool person and seem to be a good friend to have. Maybe in another life...

Haha, I'm always curious what reputation our community has outside of ResetEra, doesn't sound too hot according to 59 min, 40 sec. oh well, still love the show!

Someone said, "ResetEra, the home of our new thread, and then Sarah said "TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!"

For those who can't listen.

I haven't listened for months, that "like" girl is really hard to get over. How do you guys tune it out, are you numb to it or what?

in english speaking countries the use of like as a word-joiner-thingy is so ridiculously common it's pretty easy to phase it out, I only notice it if I let myself notice it these days. It's the えっと of english

I think every language has that and it's weird to single this one out. Like, really.

Devil Halton's Trap
I don't normally listen to 8-4, but it's cool to stumble upon the latest episode and hear talk about Xanadu Next. That game deserves more of a push just about everywhere, especially now that Tokyo Xanadu's out and has potential to mislead players on what "Xanadu" is (not that Toxanadu's awful or undeserving, but it's just not a Xanadu game).
