People talking about the framerate being smooth is baffling me. On my X it's anything but smooth, it's really bad. I'm interested to here DF's take on it but it sounds like John is experiencing similar issues to myself?

So to help clarify this, I've watched maybe an hour of base XB1 gameplay (not 1X), and once players are on the ground, that looked to be pretty smooth. As in, effectively a "steady enough" 30 fps. Everyone's experiencing the bad framerate during the flyover, but are you saying you're having ongoing performance dives on the ground during the match gameplay?

It could very well be a little different game to game, but the one I had was smooth. My friend also has the 1X and his was smooth from what he was telling me.

Arg died in 2nd place in a duo.

Bottled it against the last guy.

It feels great, there is some jank to be shaken out but no more than Fortnite that is now like butter on the x in BR.

This is gona be my crews game for a good long time. Love it!

Yeah, I'm now onto my 7th X stream (some Krabby dude?) and I've seen it look nothing but pretty decent on the ground. Some dips here and there, but nothing heinous or untoward.

Yeah I think it was kinda the same for me. Plus the building stuff got kinda annoying as well sometimes, tho it definitely separates the game from the rest in the genre. Have you played this and like it? From what I see, it's more realistic and bigger, plus it has vehicles so that adds to things. I should really start watching tip videos for this game, lol.

I think fortnight is actually really fun if you get a good group going. Don't like the solo gameplay nearly as much as I do pubg's solo mode.

Honestly MS should have enticed them to make this game free, and then rely on cosmetics for revenue. I think it' really the best way for a game like this to thrive on console.

Especially since out of the gate, they are selling cosmetic packs. I love it on PC, but I think there is no denying that console players are less forgiving of jank. And just brushing complaints aside because it's early access like so many in this thread are doing already-ecen though true- wont matter to the average game that is going to PAY this holiday to play it.

That guy won like 3 solo's and a duo, all back to back, lol.

Is this bizarro world? 6.5 Million people suffered through Skyrim on PS3 and lived to tell the tale. Console gamers swim in jank far more often than PC crowd.

Also the only cosmetic pack that was available to buy was for a limited time and is already gone.

Watching someone else play is something different than playing yourself cause you can't feel the difference in input response. I recorded an Evil Within 2 drop that I thought was unacceptable but looking back at the footage it didn't seem so bad.

I'll personally wait for DF before getting this.

I will say, if you want to win a game, now is definitely the time to hop in lol. I can't tell you how many times I found people just leave people's loot without picking anything up. People getting used to the game I'd venture.

That's good to hear. Yeah, I was mainly playing solo, so if PUBG is the better solo experience, that's great to hear. I def wanna try this with friends tho. I'm in US tho so I'll be waiting the longest to play lol.

Yeah, seems like he knows what he's doing. I dig his goggles, too.

He also has some eye-tracking program going on so you can see what he's actually looking at. It looks kinda like an invisible blob moving around the screen.

He was pulling off some beastly stuff when I was watching. He says he's mostly a PC gamer too btw and that he's rusty on a controller.

I off'd like three people in a row in a field and then couldn't find two of the bodies or crates because of the grass; so if you were following me, lol.

Given that Game preview doesn't even guarantee that the game will ever actually release, I can't believe this is the worst game preview title. This game might not even release for a year yet. Think about it, that's the release date of Shenmue 3, and we haven't even seen any gameplay from that yet.

If people are going to expect virtually finished games, then there is little point to having the programme.
I mean, the PC version launches in nine days. It's hard to believe it would take a year to release on Xbox, especially since it already has a lot of parity with the PC version sans the new map and probably a few other features I'd assume.

I think the main problem is that there are other Game Preview games way more polished than this (Fortnite). I mean wayyyyyy more polished.

I wonder how mainstream gamers will take to the level of roughness that PUBG has in the preview program. I think it's asking a lot for console players to get accustomed to this level of, well, jank before they bail out.

Both Astroneer and ARC were pretty messy at launch and I've played a few other games which didn't really feel like games they were so incomplete. I'm fairly surprised this works as well as it does TBH.
Fortnite was pretty Janky at launch too, there were whole tutorials missing, the online and party component was patchy. It however had been in development for like 6 years prior and had various alphas and betas prior to it being released.

Pubg has a lot more going on in a single match than fortnite does. Fortnite has really limited weapon customization (they sort of replace the attachment system of pubg with tiered guns that are all pretty similar), no vehicles, and a weird, haphazardly implemented building mechanic that is, to me, way more detrimental to the combat than it is a fun, substantial gameplay addition.

Also, it's maybe notable in this thread that fortnite has some pretty awful network problems. You can tell an enemy is nearby anytime the game starts lagging.

Very odd. Performance across multiple matches was poor on my X. It barely held a steady 30 with constant dips causing floaty input lag and significant dips when aiming down sights which make aiming horrible. It just didn't feel like a fun way to play PUBG at all, but I'll test some more.

Very much looking forward to the DF video.

True, but none of them had the level of marketing weight that MS is putting on PUBG. I think players are going to go in expecting more considering it even has a retail presence.

A Solo game is a lot different than a competative PvP game that often has you dying from shots you never see. And Skyrim got plenty of shit for it's problems too.

Fortnite isn't even a Game Preview title, what are you talking about? That game released 5 months ago.

If you're referring to the Battle Royale mode they added, that was released 3 months ago and that was in much worse condition back then. If you think that game is going perfectly smoothly now, you should probably check their twitter @'s right now.

The second map should come soon enough. The maps are huge, so there is plenty of variety.. and since you can decide where to drop out of the plane, it is very easy to 'mix things up' and keep it fresh.

You really just summarized my feelings about the visuals in the PC version pretty well.

And yes, it's still a compelling game to play. Floating rocks or not.
Oh yeah, that's right. I didn't even mention all the disconnected objects. Power-lines that just stop in mid-air, floating rocks, buildings and objects disconnected from the ground and all sorts of other similar madness. I think Jurassic Park: Trespasser is more polished in that regard even.

Don't be. I sank at least 80 hours into the first map and could have gone more. It will take you so long to learn every area and all the open fields. It doesn't hurt it at all. In addition to that the 2nd map is about 100x better and also harder to learn.

I forget Fortnite has any other modes aside from BR, hah.

There is another map coming early next year, and there will likely only be one game type forever, with some different variations like FPS only.

The map is HUGE. You won't see all of it even after 15-30 hours.

I think it comes down to people having different definitions of smooth. I translate a "smooth" framerate to be one that's a constant 30fps or a constant 60fps with absolutely no dips...to other people "smooth" = moderately playable with a fluctuating framerate.

Yeah, I agree with this. It might have dipped slightly here and there and to some that might be more noticeable. For me, I didn't notice it as much, if at all. Even in a firefight, it seemed to hold up fine.

I'd be happy if they get to the same solid 30fps frame rate they have got Fortnite or Wildlands to at 30.

I can take the stutters in the spawn island and jumping from the plane but when your staring at the ground looking for loot with dips it hurts.

That being said I played Ark for 100's of hours on the OG Xbox release, this is leagues above that.

If I could refund from cdkeys right now I would. Highly recommend everyone try the 1hr trial first.

It doesn't feel good at all on Xbox especially if you've tried it on pc. The frame rate is horrible and even worse when aiming down sight. Controlling the ui just trying to do basic things like unequip all attachments then pickup another gun and kit it out takes far too long - it's super fiddly.

Game preview.

I hate the terrain the most. You can see all kinds of sharp edges popping up even through grass fields. The lines are visible from the brush tools they used for extruding terrain. The placement of assetts is often stupid. It is amateurish, but meh...

Is anyone else having a hard time spotting items in the darker areas? Sometimes I run right past items; particularly attachments on the shadows.

Had quite a few games on the x...game does chug in the plane and at start but I remember the pc version doing the same on launch and once you are actually in the plane for a bit it's fine....I suspect it's stuff loading

Gameplay wise....feels like pubg...little jittery in spots but I think it's netcode/servers.....ads takes some getting used to on controller but overall pleasantly surprised

People are forgetting this is still technically a console beta...runs pretty damn well for one and is more than acceptable

My son was playing on base Xbox and while it looks like shit in spots due to textures loading in it's more than serviceable

I urge all of you checking out the game for the first time to look up Shroud's videos on Twitch and YouTube to see the game played at the very highest level. It's really interesting and feels like you're watching a very different game than you'll ever really experience.

Man, impressions are all over the place :/.

Some say it's fairly smooth on the ground, other's say it's very jerky/unstable, etc. And that goes for both OG XB1 and XBX.

Oof. I remember walking up to a tree and I kept punching it while watching the framerate dip into single digits with no other people anywhere around me.

I remember another Preview title I played, ran at something like 10fps and when I got to the first interactable object in the game, it said "Press A" or X or whatever and I did and the game had a heart attack, crashed, made my Xbox freeze and make a buzzy sound for like 8 seconds before shutting itself off, lol. I also had Subnautica haunt my Xbox for a year... undeleteable and wouldn't start, kept trying to install updates for itself every day that would always fail to install.

I've seen some things. Not 100 hours of Ark though, jesus.
