Gerstmann has played tons on PC, so that's an opinion worth considering, if you're not sure what you're getting into.

I mean...it's somewhat better in some ways but it still ultimately feels really janky and un-optimized.
What do you think is janky about it?
Gameplay is unlikely to change much as the 'jankiness' is mostly a result of the game having slower ARMA-like gameplay which inherently feels less snappy.

But saying that the game is bad due to frame rate and pop ins ia not constructive feedback.

... it's not? Those are things that impact the enjoyment you can have while playing the game. Those are things that have a direct impact on certain gameplay aspects such as aiming and location planning. Would the game not be better if the pop in was all but eliminated and the framerate smoothed out?

anyone have impressions playing on an xbox one s? i think i've only read those who have been playing it on the 1x.
its a bit rough coming from pc especially at the beginning/ drop but honestly you get used to it after a few matches. plus the level of skill is significantly lower and that kind of balances out any problems I could fault it for.

What the hell is wrong with people. This is a PREVIEW!

If you want polished wait for the full release

You are correct. I'm not saying you arent, at all. BUT A game bringing the MASSIVE HYPE (regardless of where it came from), and HUGE sales expectations, kinda maybe sorta should be in a further state of 'preview' than some indie platformer.

Now, all that said, I have not played it on XB, only PC, but the videos Im seeing look OKAY, like you can play it and have fun and probably after 1 few games you don't even notice the framerate is 30 / clinging to 30 (parachuting it looks like its about 15 - but even then, its not game breaking)

And Yea, I wish is was on PS4, cause even if the controls are fiddly, and its averaging 28fps, (hypothetical) I love my couch more than my desk.,

nice! I will be checking it out on X1S as well. I have it on PC and have a beefy rig (i7700 / 1080GTX) and even that dips on load island and during the plane / jump sequence. But usually once on the ground it holds pretty well.
Sounds like it will be the same on console, just at a lower res and framerate obviously. (But the dips people are discussing during those moments are common on PC is what I am getting at)

Not sure if it's just on my end, but it likes to lock the game up after some matches. It's not perfect, but it's playable.

Earlier in this thread I read you only have third person but I am watching my friend play in his stream and he was using first person view and not only while aiming. He walked in first person.

I thought the point of these preview games was to give feedback during their development to help shape and improve the game prior to the final release?

It's basically glorified beta testing, except you pay the developers money for the privilege.

That's exactly what it is though. Its called early access or in this case game preview and they will develop the game in line with the feedback and data they receive from the players.

Its been a pretty popular thing for a while now ;)

Aiming down sights is brutal the frame rate feels like its plummets and I can't hit anything, otherwise outwith parachuting in it feels ok

No idea how anyone can hit a moving target while ads

I'm on an xbone s

Soooooo it sounds like it runs as a good as Fortnite? I was hoping this game would have less plummeting and more stablizing. Hype remains high regardless.

This OT seems really barebones, I guess it must be in.......early access :).

Hoping this game turns out to be a sensation on consoles.

Oh I know that. I was just questioning the other posters line of thinking in that we shouldn't talk about the areas of the game that aren't polished.

One thing I've learnt from years of playing early access games on steam - assume nothing. If you see/experience a problem, talk about it and report it.

I hope every single issue gets properly reported so that everyone benefits in the long run.

I played Layers of Fear on Xbox through the preview programme, trust me I know what the worst case scenario might be :)

I just don't think that people should be going crazy about the performance right now, it will only get better and then worse and then better and so on until its official release.

Everything.

Animation isn't great, movement feels janky (even with vaulting), the worlds themselves feel as if they're pieced together from a collection of free assets, there are a lot of broken visual elements (the horizon tends to look awful and completely disconnected from the world when gliding into the map), vehicles look and move poorly, building interiors are just ugly (really ugly), the lighting is generally poor and the whole thing feels cheap. I've managed to have fun with the game with friends but every single match I'm thinking "man, this is one ugly game". There are ten year old games that look significantly better than PUBG.

I haven't played it on Xbox yet, I should note, just PC with maxed settings at 1440p.

Do we know/expect if Duo's and Squad's are to be enabled once it officially launches at midnight?

Nothing has been announced, but Australian servers seem to have Squads enabled if I am not mistaken? EU servers are going up first, at 11CST, so well see what happens. But I will be shocked if it was not included.

Have you seen early stages of other games? All games have frame rate issues and pop-ins at that stage. It is nothing new in games, and of course, they have it on their list to fix it.
The feedback needs to be focused on map design, weapon balancing, movement and so forth.

I think the main problem is that there are other Game Preview games way more polished than this (Fortnite). I mean wayyyyyy more polished.

I wonder how mainstream gamers will take to the level of roughness that PUBG has in the preview program. I think it's asking a lot for console players to get accustomed to this level of, well, jank before they bail out.

Very clunky. To remove attachments you have to rb over to the right of the menu a few times then hold X to remove attachments, then lb back over to the left, A on the weapon to initiate swap then A again to confirm then go back to your attachments and select each and confirm the action for every single one. To strip a gun, swap it for another, then fully kit out your new gun you're looking at 20 odd button presses.

This. Also, how does looting/inventory work on the controller?

Controls feel fantastic if you got used to it and item management feels also great cause as example, to get extensions on your weapon you just need to click on one and it automatically gets attached, you can even see if an extension is compatible with your weapon when hovering over it. It's good.

Fortnite is not game preview, the game has launched. The BR game mode is new and in beta.

Given that Game preview doesn't even guarantee that the game will ever actually release, I can't believe this is the worst game preview title. This game might not even release for a year yet. Think about it, that's the release date of Shenmue 3, and we haven't even seen any gameplay from that yet.

If people are going to expect virtually finished games, then there is little point to having the programme.

PUBG is CPU extensive and XONE doean't have a very powerful CPU. I wouldn't expect it to do much better from here performance wise honestly.

You really just summarized my feelings about the visuals in the PC version pretty well.

And yes, it's still a compelling game to play. Floating rocks or not.

I couldn't get into Fortnite, it was a little too arcady and didn't feel that great.

Yeah I think it was kinda the same for me. Plus the building stuff got kinda annoying as well sometimes, tho it definitely separates the game from the rest in the genre. Have you played this and like it? From what I see, it's more realistic and bigger, plus it has vehicles so that adds to things. I should really start watching tip videos for this game, lol.

Played a match of duos with a buddy. A couple of quick impressions. I'm on the X1X for the record.

-There are framerate hitches when you're in the starting island and when parachuting down, but it wasn't too terrible for me. Once you're on the ground tho, it was super smooth. I was actually surprised by how smooth it was.
-Controls feel good, but definitely need to get used to them and all the little things such as using the DPAD and inventory management. It does seem like they tuned it well, but you definitely need to play more to get a feel for it.
-Graphics seem okay. Honestly, not what I love about PUBG, but they do seem well enough thus far.
-Gunfights are a ton of fun. Had 4 kills my first match and being able to add attachments and gear and all that makes it an awesome experience each match.

I think this is a clear example of this game is going to be constantly updated and made better. Not trying to compare the two, but Fortnite also started a bit off, before being what it is today - a BR game I consider to be pretty fun.

It's going to be interesting to see how it goes from here, but so far, I am all in. I had a blast.

I think a worthwhile distinction people should be making is whether the callouts they're making are about the game in general, or about the particulars of the Xbox release. It can end up being confusing, and it leads to unnecessary back-and-forths.

People talking about the framerate being smooth is baffling me. On my X it's anything but smooth, it's really bad. I'm interested to here DF's take on it but it sounds like John is experiencing similar issues to myself?

This game isn't devoid of criticism just because it's in the preview program, let people who have issues express those issues without people jumping down their throats, just like some expressing praise, both sides are important to hear.

Quite frankly, it's not up to you (or anyone else) to decide what people do and don't give feedback on.

The developers will have a list of known issues along with a list of features that they might want to implement at a later date. All of those things will have differing levels of priority attributed to them. Community feedback can help make certain things a higher priority than others. If nobody talks about certain issues then the developers will take it as "they were fine with that" and will then knock whatever that is way down on the list of priorities in favour of addressing the things that people are talking about.

If people feel that the technical aspects are affecting their ability in the game along with their enjoyment of it then it should be highlighted. If not we end up with another shitshow like Ark on consoles.
