Great to see Zelda sweep with three awards, including GOTY tonight. It's good to see their risks and ambition with the franchise paying off. I'm so happy for the team. :')

Managed to get my second divine beast. Might need to slow down for shrine and seed farming because I've been focusing main quests mostly.

For those who have the second dlc, can you find the journal at Deya Village Ruins? I've combed the place for 30 mins and can't find anything!

I'm going to roam around Haterno once and then continue working on the story. I've been killing basically every animal I see so I should be able to make a lot of food. I also learned if you kill an animal with ice arrows you get frozen meat.

Edit: Every time I think I know what I'm going to do I get sidetracked doing something else. My plan was I was going to go to Kakariko just to use my Spirit Orbs and make food. When I reach the village but before I do all that, I find a guy that wants to see the fairy fountain. I think it's going to be a short quest so I do it first. At the end of the quest he tells me where one of my memories are and I start a long trip looking for that. I found multiple Korok Seeds and a shrine before finally finding it. I decide to journey out a little farther and found a sleeping giant. I'm super high up above him and quickly realize he can't touch me up here, so I just rain arrows down on him until he dies.

After all this I finally go back to Kakariko to use my Spirit Orbs and make a ton of food. I learned there's a limit on how much food you can carry. After making all the food I realized how late it was and I'm not going to continue the story tonight. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the Goron questlines.

I was exploring Hyrule Castle again for reasons, and found two areas that I had never found before and were cleverly hidden. This game keeps surprising me nine months later.

Did they patch BotW Performance issues? It still waits to be started after I finish AC:O. I've grabbed the Season Pass for 10€.

I think the momentary freezes might still present while fighting Moblins with two handed weapons? I haven't had it happen to me in a while, though. Frame rate is much improved over launch.

Just beat the Goron dungeon. Took me a lot less time to finish than the Zora's Domain one. Going to do all the side quests around here before I move on. Not sure what area I'll do next.

Freed my 3rd Divine Beast, this time at Rito Village. There was barely any story in this area. It took me nearly as long to get there as it did to start the quest chain and do the dungeon.

Edit: Just got the Master Sword as well. I figured it was in the Lost Forest but when I got confirmation of it from an npc I went for it. I have no idea how to do the shrine there though. It's basically the first shrine I've been stuck on (I didn't do one that was a major test of strength because I didn't have good weapons then).

So the only one you have left is the Gerudo, right? You should like it more then as it features pretty much the only meaty questline in the game.

It's actually pretty easy once you figure out what you have to do. The 'figuring it out' part took me a good 20 minutes though, hahaha.

At first I though I needed to exit the shrine and look at the sky, count the stars or something. Eventually I noticed that the constellations that the inscription was talking about are obiously the orange dots on the walls. Each column has such constellation assigned to it. What you need to do is count how many times said constellation appears on the wall right in front of you when you first enter the shrine. They might be angled differently on that wall, but they're still the same thing. So if, say, first from the left constellation appears on that wall 5 times - then you drop the ball in the fifth row of that column.

Good. The Rito quest line was really underwhelming. The archery game and getting onto the Divine Beast were really short and easy.

Thanks. I noticed the wall in the back had the same constellations but wasn't sure exactly what to do with them.

My idea of a journey to the sea was busted when I realized how close I was already.

Can anyone recommend me a direction? To go? One that can result in a cool journey.

So, any stealth section in a game usually ends up being my least favorite part of it and this game is no exception. The last room in the Yiga Clan's base is so annoying. I don't understand why you can't save in it and are forced to do the previous two rooms if you get caught. I'll do the dungeon and hopefully finish the game tomorrow. Also did a lot of random exploring before heading to Gerudo. Got a full second endurance bar now. Going to look for a 3rd fairy fountain and farm materials to upgrade my gear before I head to Hyrule Castle.

While the rito village is nice, the questline to access the beast seems like an afterthought compared to the other 3..
The land you have to cross to get there is impractical and hostile but that's about the only difficulty

I felt the same way. Also didn't help that the past hero was an arrogant prick and the guy that helps you onto the Beast is kind of just there.

Did you know Lynels can disapperate like in Harry Potter? I was in the middle of a fight, got that bastard really low and POOF, he pulled a vanishing act and reappeared and clobbered me.

Just finished my first divine beast(Zora Elephant). I feel I was misled when so many shat on these dungeons, I found it perfectly adequate, even great. Loved manipulating the trunk to solve puzzles and reach certain optional chests. The boss wasn't difficult but had a relatively strong set of attack patterns to avoid or risk countering. The scale was extraordinary. Spent a bit of time just hanging out on top of the trunk soaking in the immense landmass and dungeon itself.

I get the desire for it to be longer though, but what is there engaged me. Looking forward to the rest!

Only played a couple of hours so far, but damn this feels special. That moment when I realized you could chop down a tree and it falls down to make a bridge :O. Played a LOT of open world rpgs but already this game feels fresh.

I personally like gliding over a creature from a good height and just dropping bombs on it from my glider or dropping a hella swordsmack on it.
I love gliding over a camp an dropping a bomb right where those barrels are. Or setting a fire and watching the wind take it and engulf an encampment.

I thought the full Gerudo set was supposed to be enough to be heat-resistant in the desert, but I actually need something more (like ice weapon or food)?

It gives you a level 1 heat resistance only. There is another armor that can be purchased in Gerudo town or another place [don't want to spoil it] that gives you complete heat resistance. It's called Desert Voe armor.

Ah, I thought they both offered the same amount of protection. Thank you.

This place is hotter than being inside a volcano? I don't believe it. But looks like it's time to farm rupees again, now.

Edit: thought you meant Goron set.

Finished the Gerudo dungeon. Waiting for my Switch to charge and then I'm heading to Hyrule Castle. Looked up where the other two Fairy Fountains are. Not sure how I missed the one in Akkala. I had the shrine next to it but didn't see it somehow. Got the generic Hylian armor upgraded 3 times which should be good enough.

Edit: Just beat Ganon.

So, let me preface this with I have never been a huge Legend of Zelda fan. Wind Waker was my first ever Legend of Zelda game and since then I've played every 3D one (including handhelds except Triforce Heroes). I've played pretty much every 3D Zelda game since then (including Ocarina of Time 3D but not Majora's Mask 3D). I loved Wind Waker and really liked Twilight Princess, but none of the games (except Wind Waker) are anywhere high in my favorites list.

So, with that out of the way, I liked Breath of the Wild a lot. I was really skeptical going into it because I hated the idea of weapons breaking constantly, but that ended up not being much of a problem. I prefer linear games to open world because I don't like being so aimless, both in games and real life. I like having a set path I go on and not accidently taking odd routes to get to places like I did to the Goron City. That's not to say I don't like exploration. I do, a lot. I just like having a set path to do things on as intended and not doing something that ends up being a lot harder.

The core game is great. Like, really really great. It's a lot of other things (mostly unrelated to combat) that bring it down for me. The biggest thing is Zelda. Her character is so bad. All the memories I've unlocked basically paint her as a bad princess who can't do anything right. I'm also not a fan of her voice. Every time she speaks it comes out like she's trying so hard to sound epic but it just ends up being weird. Besides that, I'm not much of a fan of the graphics. I don't really like the style as it ends up looking blurry a lot of the time, especially if you're trying to look far away. I hate having to stealth around things in any game and there's a lot of times you need to do it in Breath of the Wild. There's only 3 parts story wise I can remember where you have to do it but there's lots of other times exploring the world where I had to slow down and make sure I don't get caught. I also thought the Ganon fight was a little underwhelming. First part is great and second is okay but I was hoping for a more intimate sword fight we got in most games. Also it's the same in pretty much every Zelda game and I don't like it in any of them that when you beat the game, it takes you back to the final boss' entrance and acts like nothing happened (besides the star on my save file). There's a couple other small things but they didn't really detract from the game.

I still really liked the game. However, before Black Friday (where I bought Breath of the Wild and like 6 other games), I had only bought (well basically bought as one is f2p) 3 other games this year and I would place it 3rd in that group. First is Super Mario Odyssey way above it (it might be in my top 5 of all time) and 2nd is a game that would be very controversial that I'll bring up in the GotY thread if I decide to vote.

Weapon durability is a problem for like.. the first 6 hours of the game
Then you have more than you need.
In master mode I was pretty much avoiding every fight in the early game because how tedious the shit was, found a 38 damage knight claymore after clearing the plateau and that carried me for a while, shrines gives a ton of good weapons for the early game, just gotta avoid those motherfucker guardian scouts

I'm about to do the goron beast after having done rito then zora, got my fully upgraded berserker set (well, I just need to get a horn shard from the fire dragon..), master mode's been fine so far except for the bullshit difficulty spike at the start, and the trial of the sword that I just gave up on, fuck doing that shit.
I just wish they toned down the regen a bit, it kicks off super quick, especially in fights against 3-4 monsters

I have yet to do eventide island.. not looking forward to it, but I'm waiting to have plenty of hearts to do it. First playthrough I got there at 5 or 6 hearts and base stamina, and I didn't know you could sneak on the hinox to get his ball (you can, right ?)

Yeah, you can. I didn't know about it at the time, either. I was blown away when I found out that's how other people did it. I slowly chipped away at it, instead. I think that may have been my first encounter with one.

Yeah same, my first playthrough I basically beelined kakariko > hateno > did the medium test of strength on the big cliff, then flew to the major test of strength on the small island (what a pain it was..), then rafted to eventide island, shit was tough on like 5 hearts :p

That's pretty much what I did, though I think I went to Zora's domain before Hateno village? I had around 6 hearts, too. Maybe 7. I'm happy I found it early. It wouldn't have been as tense if I found it during late game.

Finished it. I didn't enjoy my start with the game as I felt very underpowered and with no stamina, also the weapon durability really only factored for the first few hours of the start of the game, but I still wish towns and shops sold weapons. After I finished Zora's domain stuff (including the beast), I decided to just go find shrines to get more hearts and stamina. I upgraded stamina twice first, then focused on getting hearts (I heard I needed a certain number to do something later in game). After I was more upgraded, I started to enjoy the game more. The dungeons are short, but I like them being something I can finish in an hour, and I really grew to love the open structure of the game. I wish there was more story (not overall plot, but maybe each town had a memory or a cutscene or something describing their life in better detail) and I wish there were more dungeons/beasts. The shrines are novel, but they never felt that challenging, and getting to them was a pain in the beginning because of the stamina issues. I also felt like I had to consult the internet more in this game than previous Zelda's because some stuff that I thought would be in the game just aren't (recipes being the biggest offender). Also, the game just kind of abruptly ended for me, sadly. I thought there was going to be a final dungeon, so I went and got into the castle and the boss fight immediately started, so I just ended up finishing the game thirty minutes later. I was trying to set myself up to have a good starting point for an upcoming trip, but since there was no final dungeon (and getting to the boss took about ten minutes at the top of the castle) I was disappointed.

This felt like such a leap forward for the Zelda franchise and Nintendo as a whole that I'm really excited for what comes next.

So I just started truly playing BotW last night, after giving up on the game shorty after being tasked to complete the shrines to get the paraglider. Last time I played at launch, one shrine had this guardian dude that one shot me, and the other two shrines were located at places that were cold (so I died).

Now I learned that you could shield parry the one dude (which I did), and that old Robin Hood has a cabin where you can teach him his own recipe for a winter shirt. Done and done. I also bought the BotW Princess Zelda, Archer Link, and Horse Link amiibos at launch and never used them. Using them gave me the kick start I needed to get playing again.

Played for hours last night, and now I can't wait to get back into it. I've just fully fixed the tablet as well. I'm thinking I might have to reasses what my actual game of the year is now. This game also looks gorgeous on my 4K tv. I'm actually kind of glad I held off playing BotW. With so many great games released or releasing in that period early this year, I may not have given those other games the time I did lol. Now I can focus on what is my first real Zelda experience.

While impossible to choose my favourite zelda game, I'd say this is up in the top three.

The dlc 1 and 2 I found to be great. I'm always wanting more of everything, I feel it delivered enough to justify its price.

Tears were shed a couple of times. Tears only a zelda game can bring out in me. Bought on launch day with my switch, I'm still engaged.

The motor bike is an excellent addition, especially for collecting the korok seeds, which I've still got about 150 to go, and enjoying every second of it. This is truly a masterpiece, and I really hope they release more dlc in the future.

Did you ever... actually explore the castle? It's definitely the final dungeon, it just lets you use tools and tricks to bypass a lot of its twists and turns and get through it whatever way you want to.

Nope. I thought I had to enter the castle through the top and then, I dunno, work my way down inside it or something. I didn't think that the top would be it. I guess in hindsight it makes sense to make the top the end, but since it was really easy for me to get to, I didn't think that would be it.

I'm also going to keep playing it and will explore the castle and more of the world/shrines.

You should definitely keep exploring the castle. It might be my favourite location in the game.
