It did end up being the traffic cones. Glad I asked here because I didn't get (or don't remember) any Nishida texts or calls about checking cones so I would have never thought to check them. Thanks for the help! Now I got Majima up to my eyeballs ha.

Glad to hear it worked out in the end! Enjoy your time with Majima then, hehe.

You're gonna be so done with Majima Everywhere once you encounter Breaker too many times. He's at peak annoying in that style, lol.

Majima wasnt been a one-dimensional character for multiple games, his "change" has been happening for years. It was very clear in Yakuza 4 that he was not just some simple maniac, his interactions with Saejima portrayed him as someone very smart and sane, and shown that part of his craziness its faked. Yakuza 0 is completly in line with the evolution of the character, and expands on what we see during his Y4 flashbacks.

Yakuza 0 end is more jarring to people new to series, who started with this game, because they have no point of reference for the Majima evolution throughout the series.

Why should people who started with Y0 need more perspective on Majima's personality? The fact is, the way Majima acts in Kiwami is a 180 from where he was in Zero, regardless of whether they started to retcon his character in later games.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the explanation that he is supposedly just acting crazy for some reason, but the sudden shift just wasn't explained well. Normal people don't just suddenly invent an alternate personality for themselves. It would've rang truer to me if Majima had been a bit unhinged in Zero and he kind of went off the deep end at the end.

I think it's a shame as Majima was someone I had a lot of empathy for. It's hard to feel anything for Kiwami Majima except laughter. At least with 7 they can start fresh with new characters that don't have the baggage of being written like a one-dimensional anime character.

I think while the switch at the end of 0 could have been communicated better to newcomers, it still makes sense and it's quite blatantly explained in the extended dialogue they added when you first meet him in Kiwami. He has been acting similar to how he does in 0 in very specific scenes starting from Y4, which is something I found pretty cool when I got to 0.

It's true that newcomers have no way of realizing any of this, but you can't really expect to get into a series with the 6th mainline game and not miss a couple of plot points, prequel or not.

I'm fully expecting them to touch more on this in Kiwami 2 though.

Eh, to be perfectly honest I don't really care either way. I understand that to older fans Majima is beloved, but all I see is the class clown now. He's funny, but not meaningful. The Majima I knew and liked is dead.

Hello, Yakuza faithful!

Interesting time to jump into this thread, seeing as how I just finished Yakuza 0 (first in the series I've ever played) the other day.

Majima is clearly heartbroken over Makoto; either because she didn't recognize him/her savior on the street, or that she had effectively moved on with her life and he still harbored latent feelings for the girl deep within his own heart.

Having no clue personally of his eventual fate within the series proper made watching his final scene with Kiryu all the more tragic. Here lies a man torn between honoring his past, while embracing his own destiny in the seedy underworld of Sotenbori. I think there were subtle hints at his future instability shown throughout both the main plot and some of his reactions during his substories, even so far as tiny clues with his Heat Finishers. Especially the one in Thug Style where he cartwheels over a prone enemy and lands on them; if you get just the right camera angle his subtle smirking grin + the manic look in his eyes when he makes the impact really sells the imminent crazy. Oh, and during the "music video" part of his karaoke dates, lol.

It's been a long long journey -- I started this game back in July (lol) and would dedicate an hour or two here and there pushing either through the story or spending time enjoying (and in some cases, not so much) all the different side attractions Yakuza 0 had to offer for a first time player.

Things I loved - Yuki, arcade games, side quests (the absurd off the wall characters brings to mind Deadly Premonition of all things; guess it's the Japanese style presentation of silly yet serious drama), the robust freedom of combat, karaoke, disco (more please), billiards, casino, bowling (Nugget! He's the reason that finally sold me on the game!), CABARET CLUB (I'd go so far as to say I'd play a standalone game of CabClub, it was so much fun), all of the characters, but especially Majima (and Yuki!) -- honorable mentions to Kiryu and his bro Nishiki; Miss Tatsu (the BEAST) and Makoto (insert precious cinnamon bun meme here) - there's so much greatness in this game, it's tough to pick a single thing that outclasses the rest.

Things I liked - the freedom to upgrade your characters however you like (if money isn't an issue), batting, darts, Pocket Circuit, Real Estate Royale (compared to CabClub it was a little bit lacking; I did enjoy Marina and Kiryu's interplay though), telephone club (the answers were hilarious, and it gave some insight into Japan's cultural past), the small things like random people on the street avoiding you or greeting you as you rose to power

Things I didn't like - catfights (nothing much to say here that anyone who has played this game to completion hasn't already said), Mr. Shakedown encounters (I didn't find them to be particularly difficult after a few hours in; just annoying), coliseum (feels tacked on/content padding)

Things I hated - mahjong (I still can't wrap my head around this game), dragon and tiger (fuck right the hell off, RNG), some of the outright bullshit in the climax battles lol (I know, get gud)

In my opinion, if BOTW hadn't been released this year I'd consider Yakuza 0 the GOTY, no contest.

Regardless, it was a very memorable experience and I'm looking forward to starting Kiwami soon; Yakuza 6 (after hours edition) is already pre-ordered!

I wish I hadn't jumped on to this series so late in it's lifetime, but here's hoping the future is bright!

I don't like Kaoru's new voice, it just sounds wrong. Also miss Kurahashi's hilariously gravelly voice.

edit: unlocked the cabaret club management. goodbye world.
really wish share wasn't disabled, sega why :(

Been playing all-day. On to Chapter 6 of Kiryu's Campaign. If you have finished the original you can understand fine without subs, and if you don't, there's the old cut-scenes on YouTube. So far Kiwami 2 is good, but...

- Music seems a step down. Where's "Block Head Boy" and "The Grudge"?
- Mini-bosses are fun.
- Sub-stories are more like Kiwami 1; dialogue and fight. That's it, aside from a few.
- The combat is... good. But I prefer the old one from Kiwami/0. Also, how do I make Kiryu to stay on "heat mode"? I press R2 and nothing. In the demo it worked fine.
- Where is the Bed of Styx?
- Goda... fucking amazing voice.
- The cabaret and construction side-missions are cool.
- Can't stream. Don't know why. Sorry guys.

I'm not doing Majima Campaign for now and one tip: AVOID devilleon7 YouTube channel for now.

Will keep playing, but being a faithful remake, I know what to expect and that's more great stuff.

This is still the most hype song for me. Do not read comments if you haven't finished 0.

Just got my CE delivered. Won't be able to dive into the game proper until after the holiday but figured I'd post a few pics of it. The Kiwami 1 and 2 soundtrack has about 20 songs on it. Overall the CE is a little pricey for what's included, but I'll simply have to survive on my hype instead of money.

Man that's one hell of an awesome looking CE! To those who are currently playing Kiwami 2 enjoy! Should i be careful for potential spoilers? (i never played 2 at all)

This, Kuze theme, Disco songs and few Karaoke songs are absolutely brilliant. Intro song is also pure hype. Looping them from time to time as well :D
*high fives* :D

Having just finished Ryu ga Gotoku HD I decided to watch some footage of Yakuza 2 on YT.
Man the jump in combat and such from 1 to 2 is astounding.

Yep, all his scenes with Saejima both in Y4 and Y5 are same as he acts in Y0. And that makes sense because that's his brother, one of the few people that really knows him.

A weird thing about Kiwami 2 is that it seems to have changed the confirm/examine/talk button to X instead of circle like in other Japanese games, but it doesn't apply everywhere. Things like the camera function or the gravure minigame will show an image of the circle button, but I have to press X. It's confusing. Wonder if it has to do with the system region or psn account settings.

11 hours into Yakuza 0 and I cannot stop playing. I haven't loved a game this much in a looooong time, and in a year with Samus Returns, BOTW, Skyrim VR and Mario Odyssey that's a tough act.

Also, playing OutRun is magical as always.

Think of it this way.

Yakuza 0 was such a good game, that it's mere existence elevated the story of Yakuza 1.

Then when you actually account for the new stuff introduced in Y0 and incorporate it into Kiwami, and then add new stuff on top? Ooohhh boy.

Play Yakuza 0 first.

Will I be lost or missing out if I play Yakuza Kiwami first instead of 0?
I'd say so, as someone that has only played Zero and Kiwami. Not necessarily lost, but there are side stories that heavily reference 0 and there are a few characters I probably wouldnt have cared much about if I had only played Kiwami.

Yeah, as far as I know it does have something to do with the regional setting of your console (the demo did the same). As for why minigames like the Gravure minigame show the "wrong" button (in this case): maybe because the symbol got hardcoded into the game?

Speaking of the gravure minigame: how many models are in Kiwami 2 for that minigame? 2?

Zero introduces the characters and sets up the emotional tone for what happens in Kiwami. You can play Kiwami first, but you won't feel the impact of some events if you don't have prior history with the characters. I really recommend playing Zero first if you can. Plus, it's a much better introduction to the series than Kiwami is.

This might be the best way to summerise why to go with 0 over to Kiwami yet. Hits the nail perfectly on the head :)

Kiwami 2 wise, got my dispatch email earlier, should be here early next week with any luck. Time to finish my second City Shrouded in Shadow run so I'm ready to start it when it drops through my letterbox!

Ever since these games came out on PS2 I wanted to play them, but back then I was only interested in multiplayer.

Finally jumped into this series and since I bought my PS4 in November 19, all I've played is Yakuza 0. Part of me wishes I started back then but I guess starting at 0 has its benefits

Avoiding spoilers, are the other games similar to 0 or is this one a bit different?

The groundwork is always the same, and it's basically Re-used Assets: The Series.

Of course there are always minor tweaks to the formula. Being able to switch between various different combat styles for example is new.

Of the few games I've played (4, 5 and Kiwami.) this has by far the best story and sidequests too.

So Kiwami 2. Camera still feels as weird as in the demo.

I do like that we can go into whatever door we like mostly, just wandering into doors that says staff is fun haha.

I also notice now items Stack now which is great. Bought some Stamina items from a Poppo I think and they stacked so that's a welcome change.

Not much else to say since I haven't gotten further outside of liking the increased graphics with Kamurocho looking great.

Apparently Google's AlphaZero has mastered Shogi in two hours. With that I might actually have a chance of platinuming a Yakuza game..
https://www.resetera.com/threads/no...ogles-alphazero-al-now-dominates-chess.10041/
Not sure if you've tried the Shogi trophy requirements for previous games, but you can cheese challenge mode for them for each game, or just use a youtube vid guide.and follow the steps there. It got easier in Kiwami as well, with a really easy challenge that you just needed to replay 5 times to clear the Shogi challenges.

Mahjong (especially for 0) is the harder obstacle since you can't cheese it, and in 0 you have no cheat item either. So you have to actually learn the game to complete the goals!

Oh yeah, in Kiwami 2 they might have removed some substories, but they sure kept the mahjong one :))))

i don't even remember Mahjong in 2. But I'm glad its in as I've come to love Mahjong.

Also, in terms of areas you visit, I notice via a wiki I'm reading () that you actually CAN still go to Shinsei-cho in Kiwami 2, so I guess it isn't cut after all? Good news if true, assuming the wiki guide I'm reading isn't incorrect.

Yeah, I was mostly joking...mahjong is the one that completely baffled me. It's like trying to play a Paradox game. Hopefully that's next on AlphaZero's list.
