I've wanted this since the Flying Hamster 2 days, shaping up really well, I must say. Will get on Switch for sure!

This is looking great. When will we be able to see some gameplay animation of the characters?

This game looks fantastic and a kind of game I have wanted to play for years! Hopefully gameplay works great with the art style.

I'm in, art style is lovely.

Thank you very much! <3

Does the game have a steam page yet?

Actually I set up the steam page like 2 years ago with some old graphics but never published it. Thank god! ^_^ The project had tons of changes, graphical updates and improvements since then.

This is looking great. When will we be able to see some gameplay animation of the characters?

Thank you! New material: When we're closer to a completed beta version. It's not only the raw animation, it will be combined with some tech for lighting (e.g. RIM lighting, color reflection, white eyes visible in the dark etc) so we get a cohesive, beautiful image quality. The final result will be very unique and we want to show new material when we implemented all features.

Are you guys using HD rumble on Swtch?

Yes HD rumble will be supported.

Any chance we get a demo?

Unfortunately zero chance because it means lots of additional work - we need to focus on finishing the main game.
We skipped Paris Games Week for that reason - no time for a new public demo.

Thanks a lot! We're very happy with our first internal results. It's a magical image and plays beautifully. Very responsive controls, lots of different locations. <3

Thomas Kern Any chance you could put one up soon? I make threads highlighting upcoming releases on Steam and PC, and generally link to Steam pages by showing their banners, and I'd like to add this agme to the list.

Somewhat trivial question: Is this game gonna contain a number of throwbacks to the previous entries? I've already spotted
Pepelogoo from Monster World IV
from public gameplay videos, among many things.

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you. Good luck.

Thank you everyone! Glad you like what you see so far!

I'm a big Switch fan myself, Monster Boy is a fantastic fit for this console! Looks amazing on the Switch screen and runs beautifully in native resolutions.

Sounds great! Will you adapt different HUD icon sizes for portable mode on Switch? I noticed that in the Switch version Dragon's Trap, the HUD areas resize 1:1 to the gameplay area. As a comparison, the Switch version of Steamworld Dig 2 use a slightly (a few percent) larger HUD in portable mode, which IMO gives a better and "true" portable experience. A portable game is played under all kinds of varied light conditions, so I think things like a more clear HUD compared to docked mode helps.

Thank's for Dragon's Trap (the live recorded soundtrack in that game is fantastic) and the work on this new game! I'll get the Switch version day 1.

The Steam page will be newly set up with updated material and trailer which means it won't happen very soon. First the game needs to be in the required final visual state to record it. Also please keep in mind that Monster Boy releases on consoles first, Steam later. We just can't finish the game for all platforms at once as our manpower is limited.

Thank you! Yes, you can expect a lot of fan service in this game. :)

Thanks a lot! <3

I keep mixing Wonder Boy and Monster Boy. Both were arcade games right?

There's no easy answer to that as the Wonder Boy series has many games for arcade and home console. Monster Boy is a new name but based on the Wonder Boy in Monster World home console series of games. Note that the title mixes Wonder Boy and Monster World, hence Monster Boy. Expect a colorful interconnected open world with many places to explore. I would say it's a sequel to the two Mega Drive 'Monster World' games, but more dynamic and faster paced including several quality of life improvements that are expected in modern games.

First of all, thanks for sharing your excitement about this game and Dragon's Trap! However, please note that the Dragon's Trap remake was created by our friends at Lizardcube and not from FDG/Game Atelier. We only work on the Monster Boy game currently. Thanks for your suggestions about the HUD. We recently redesigned it and it should work fine for both modes, but we slightly scale some texts where needed. cheers!

@Thomas- That's coo, take your time to polish it, though try to have the PC release as close as possible to consoles (and don't release during the Summer Sale!)

Small development updates from the development blog:

FDG Thomas on Saturday, January 13 2018:
Happy New Year, LordKaiser! The development of Monster Boy is now in crunching phase which is the final development stage before preparing the submissions. The team is at maximum skill level now, as we learned a lot during the 4 years of development. All the finishing touches are very effective. We can't wait to share it with all of you. Please hang in there a little while longer before we can make an announcement.

FDG Thomas on Saturday, January 13 2018:
We had a recent news post on Facebook and Twitter - as for this blog please hang in there a little while longer. The whole team is crunching now and working hard on finalizing the game.

.

So the game's almost done! Final development phase, the finishing touches, and then the game's being released. Thomas did say there'd be an announcement this Winter regarding the release date, so sounds as though the game is coming very soon.

Still excited for this, as a longtime Wonderboy fan from the Master System days. Believe all their work is going to pay off and the game will be fantastic.

This looks absolutely amazing - just how modern sequels to classics should be made!

I am so tired of fake 8bit or 16bit sprites

How we looking on getting that physical copy for switch ? Landed 13,000 likes in Twitter didn't it
Thank you! Please keep your fingers crossed for a physical release - the Twitter likes certainly help ;)

Can't wait to get it on my Switch :).
Seeing Monster Boy on the Switch screen feels incredible. It looks really good on it. <3

Anyone part of the Dragon's Trap remake involved in this?
The Dragon's Trap remake team isn't involved in it but Monster Boy uses one development tool written by Omar who's the programmer and director of the DT remake.

Haha ok ... I'm pretty sure if some of the shovel wear can hit physical, a great game like you're one can manage easily ;)

Super excited to play this on Switch.

Switch is going to have a great year when it comes to 2D platformers and 2D action games. Stuff like Monster Boy, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Dandara, Owlboy, Tropical Freeze, Kirby, and a ton more I'm sure . Can't wait.

The way the art and the characters have evolved over the years has been amazing. The main character looks so cool now.

I love the latest art style, it feels like the hand drawn art from the classic WB instruction manuals and promo pics come to life!

And in anticipation of Monster Boy I'm playing my original copy of Dynastic Hero on my s-video modded Turbo Duo:
