Oh that's so stupid. I'm climbing a mountain that has a tower on it, and right when I'm almost to the top it's starts raining and I slip. Now I'm just sitting here on a ledge waiting for it to stop raining.

hah i remember my first rain climb.
Wait it out and continue climbing up afterward. You might be greeted with something beautiful.

Pro tip: Pay attention to the weather bar on the HUD. Helps to know whether you should even attempt climbing a mountain if there would be rain coming

Noted. I'm at Akkala Tower trying to figure out how to get to the top. I killed an eyeball but nothing happened. My Switch's battery got really low so I'm taking a break right now.

In addition to what MrFoxdie said you can make camp under cover and wait until the next day if there's incoming rain. If everything in the forecast is the same (e.g. rain or lightning) then it's probably tied to a nearby questline and you'll have to do that first, then come back.

Looking at the weather forecast before starting climbing can help a lot. Each forecast spot is 4 in-game hours (4 real-life minutes) long.

Or, if you find an overhang where it doesn't rain beneath, one piece of wood can help you instantly.

Just finished the spring of wisdom. It reminded me of Shadow of the Colossus. Is the only thing from it a spirit orb and the weapon inside the shrine?

Is it the spring in Akala? There's one more thing nearby, but you can do that later, now when you have the teleport point.

How do I tame the giant horse? I talked to a guy asking about it and I lured it all the way to his camp but I can't ride it and nothing is happening when I talk to him.

You need more stamina to tame it. You have to sneak up behind it and then once you're on top, constantly spam L (I think, but the button prompt is on screen anyway). It requires a lot of stamina to pull off.

Scoured the old forum to find this pic I took from launch time.

Not sure how rare this is, but a double rainbow is what I encountered after my first rain climb

No the one by Haterno. I have the quest for the spring by Akkala though.

Ok, so you have completed the Shrine? If that's done, there's nothing really important to do there AFAIK, but the task itself was important for the remaining part of the game, since
you have now released the ice dragon

Started to get back into this because of the inevitable DLC 2. Finished the middle trials of the sword. The second half of those trials were much easier then the first half. Started the final trials but died on the third room with a bunch of shitty horse back guys. How hard are the final trials overall?

Finally decided to scratch the BotW itch (...which basically started as soon as I finished the game back in April) and started playing Master Mode.

That opening moment never loses its charm and beauty.

I died fairly quickly... due to fall damage. :P I have to get a hang of the controls again it seems lol. I haven't died in combat yet, but I've been playing more stealthily this time. I did notice a Lynel pretty close to the Temple of Time, though...

I think I'll keep the Switch shirt this time. :P I didn't want it to taint my initial playthrough.

I definitely want to do things differently this time, but I haven't decided exactly how I'll go about things. I might unlock the entire map before taking on any of the main quest.

The third isn't that much harder than the second.
(It deals a lot with various types of guardians.)

Yep i'm definitely doing things different this time. Collecting Ancient Parts from the get go (and not selling them lol), focusing on upgrading stamina first, knowing to sell gems instead of hoarding...etc.

My biggest change that I would recommend before unlocking the map is going to Rito first:
to unlock charge jump/glide power
I'm still traumatized that I did this Divine Beast last on my original playthrough and I essentially uncovered the entire map before unlocking it. One of those situations where you are like "WTF I could have had this the entire time" lol

Yes I was thinking of going in that direction first, too. I originally went Zora > Goron > Rito > Gerudo. Now that you mention it, it would probably be a good idea to at least do Vah Medoh asap for the reasons you stated haha.

That's what I'm going to do whenever I do another playthrough. My first time I did Zora>Rito>Gerudo>Goron. I'm going to switch it up next time, maybe do Goron first and save Zora for last.

Finished the Middle Trials! Those dark rooms got easier once I started to have a little more patience. Even looking back at the entirety of the trial though, it was those couple of dark rooms that were still the most difficult to overcome. Not only is it difficult to try aiming your arrow/bombs at an enemy in the pitch black, but then you have to also worry about where the other enemies are without being able to see them to create a quick plan of attack. Either way, I got through it! Never had to use a fairy, either!

Lol found someone from the Yiga clan that challenge me to a fight but right when the fight started they got struck by lightning and died. I've been trying to find the great fairy Shugga said was northeast but I haven't had any luck finding it. Gotten 2 shrines and like 5 Korok seeds while looking though. Also found a camp guarded by a Minotaur that had 2 gold rupees so I'm swimming in money right now.

Edit: Somehow I got to the Goron city despite constantly being on fire the whole time and eating a ton of food. Still being lit on fire in the city despite nothing being equipped. Where can I get some fire protection at?

There is a clothing store in Goron City that sells a set with flame protection. I think you only need one piece.

This seems like an appropriate video answer, if you used that approach to get to Goron City. :-)

Thanks. I figured there was a clothing store here but I didn't see one at first and was getting low on food so I went straight to the shrine.

That and the magnificent experience of playing this section. I found the place randomly quite early in the game and it was such an amazing experience. It was a big "OK, this is what this game is" moment for me.

I'm kind of torn on what to do next. I started the Goron questline but I don't feel comfortable doing it until I farm more food. I started the Spring of Power quest but if I have to kill the 3 patrols I rather wait until I have a better bow. I might just head west and explore a bit.

That moment was also the "Holy shit, this game" moment for me, too. Especially because I really wasn't expecting anything much when I headed there. A random farmer NPC told me Princess Zelda had visited it before, which is what piqued my interest.

The tension of my experience was heightened by the fact that I wasn't prepared for or aware of the fact that there are two levels of cold (and heat) in the game. I had to bolt to the top of the mountain while being chased by a bunch of monsters, and then quickly defeat the dragon because I only had two meals that helped protect me from the cold (that I used on top of my warm doublet), which lasted for a total of 6 minutes. :P

Yeah I learned this the hard way a couple hours ago. Tried to go rescue the Goron with only one piece of fire protection and used up nearly the rest of my food. Ended up buying the whole set which was all of my money.

The sensible thing probably would have been to turn around, but it made for a better experience imo. :P It was definitely worth it.

What I did was get the 'tunic' part of the armour as part of the side quest you can get in the southern mines, and then I bought the rest of the outfit in Goron City. I think I got lost trying to find Goron City initially so I was already aware of how hot Death Mountain was.

While Rito is definately the recommended first Beast (which is weird seems it definately looks like the most menacing when you start the game), going to Kakariko before that, getting the Climbing Bandana and meeting up with Hestu are some indispensable must for adventuring.

I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for the DLC to come out. When is the VGA thingy? We're expecting a date there right?

It's today at 5:30 PM PST, I believe. And yes a lot of people are hopeful that we'll get DLC 2 info there.

I feel you. I'm from the UK so it starts at 1:30am for me, I think. I'm still going to torture myself and stay awake during a week day.

Oh! That's great! DLC 1 was very dissapointing since hard mode barely saw any differences to the world map (that Lynel set up expectations that were not met and we could've at least also gotten the treasure chests remixed), so hopefully DLC 2 compensates and makes DLC1 just look like a freebie.

I have the fear that it will not meet up to expectations, but I'm trying to be hopeful and positive. \o/ The fact that we've been waiting for most of the year gives me hope.

I'm loving this game but at the same time I'm having trouble figuring out what to do. I love experiencing the mystery of it all but there are shrines I would never know existed (even with the sensor on) without googling the map. Also, im finding kinda the game hard without being able to farm rupees yet

There's like 10 shrines that are well hidden or behind quests, but most of them have some pretty obvious structure to pique your interest
As for rupees, just sell your precious ores, they're near pointless anyway

I've heard ores upgrade you? I've already found what the monster parts can do so I've been farming that.

There's a few items that upgrade with ores but I wouldn't say they're good, and ores aren't too hard to farm if you explore certain areas (mostly death mountain has a ton of good rare ore spots)

Eh, trident is fairly weak later on

The north-east/north sides of death mountain have a ton of spots for ores and don't require fireproof stuff, you may want to avoid that lynel though. Good spot to farm I found

Didn't know there was a Breath of the Wild OT. Fantastic!

Also, im finding kinda the game hard without being able to farm rupees yet

There is a lot of methods for that with perhaps the easiest [and most boring] being the Snowling minigame. You get 280 rupees every minute when you figure it out. Hunting animals in the tundra for the gourmet meat, cooking 5 [or 4 and 1 apple] and then selling will net you almost 500 hundred rupees.

I'm still early in. Do only specific shields work doing this?(ie. metal) or can I use any shield so long as I get the timing right? Haven't really spent time testing this yet(doing Master Mode as my first play and I am mostly avoiding stuff still with cruddy weapons).

You can parry with any shield, but weaker ones will get destroyed more easily if you mess up.

Any shield works. I suggest using the save feature right before a guardian so you can reload until you're confident with knowing when to parry.
