Even SR S is filled with dirty racers. Yesterday and today I've been bumped off the tracks way too many times for the highest sportsmanship class. This is just depressing.

I'm in. We probably should be noting our location too (I'm west coast NA), as I doubt we can reach a single time that is good for everyone. I know many of you are in the UK and Europe.

It's obvious the system can detect fairly well when people are intentionally hitting people and not just braking late, but the penalty for that is not at all strong enough. They should get one warning with a big SR ding. A second offense in a race gets them a black flag, taken out of the race and some period of ban from Sport mode.

The problem is that PD wants the player count to be as high as possible so I doubt they'd ever suspend people.

My manufacturer race tonight on Yamigawa was pretty fun. In the Beetle I qualified second and as per usual for me I ran wide on the FIRST turn. This put me in the pack about 6th but I knew I was quicker than most of them and was blazing past them. In that super fast section after turn one some idiot who was slower than me wouldn't give way once I'd cleanly slipped past him. He was right along side my tail and should have braked and let me take the place. Obviously given the fast corners he put me in the wall. Somehow I ended up hitting him off the road after he surged in front. 10 second penalty. I didn't serve my penalty and a few corners later 10 seconds had jumped up to 13 odd seconds, not sure why. ARGH. All cos one guy wouldn't admit he was beaten and caused a dangerous situation.

Anyways I kept at it and found a nice window where I served my full penalty and only lost one place. Had a consistent race after that and got one really nice clean pass.

Last lap I was catching up to the 2nd placed guy and then right at the end 1st place must have spun. We both caught up to him but we finished in position. 2nd placed guy had a 3 second penalty. I got 2nd! So I didn't lose a place from quali and had quite a fun eventful race!

Love this game. I won't speak about the Interlagos race though, lol.

Not my experience at all, accidents ocasionally happen but thats normal, people being dicks on S im yet to see one

Up until yesterday I thought the same. It was rare seeing people bumping into me hard in SR S for the past week or two. I don't know what changed suddenly.

Yes, the Sport mode is great but it definitely needs more improvements. Make penalties harsher or change the ranking system, either is fine by me.

Bad luck maybe, heres an example of race i had today

The first 4 at least tried to avoid contact at all times

Nice racing there bud, your opportunity came when that greek guy made a dive into the first chicane, slowed the leader up and you took full advantage :-) Single make races with slow cars tend to be the worst when it comes to contact as there's no speed offset, you tend to get stuck in a pack but everyone behaved very well.

I saw some of the most aggressive driving I've seen in S class tonight but I think there must've been some previous between the two guys as the same guy was clean with me in the cup and a sport race after. Despite punting the opposition clean off the track he got away with just a red S at the end, I guess he was just in his own space after the incident so was clean afterwards.

Oof, had a really fun but frustrating race just now. It was the FIA Manufacturer race. I've been leading the race since lap 2 all the way into the last lap. Then I catch up to the guy in last position and guess what happens... as I try to pass him he bumps me from the side and that allows the guy in second place (who kept up with me all race long) to pass me and win the race in the last lap. Aarrrgh.

Oh well, it was a fun race.

Damn I really like this e-sport format. I can dip in, look at the days races and set my sights on one. Then I have something to focus on and I get in the mood to drive easily.

Lining up in a sport race is such a payoff after studying a track/car combo for a half hour or more.

I would love to participate! Edit: If I can, I will probably busy next WE but any other time I will likely be available.

Today I've went to get all the golds that I was still missing in the driving school. Unsurprisingly most of them were the last row with the rally trials. I hated those and I was never a fan of oversteer driving in GT.
But now, post patch, is so inexplicably easy driving sideways that I found these trials fun to play. Obviously it required some attempt, but I got all the golds easily. Before the patch, the space between being locked in understeer and spin was so tiny that I never been able to even try to use it. But now that space is WIDE, is huge, and it's fantastic to dive in it. Now I can go to those never explored rally tracks with a completely different eye. Those are simply part of the game now. I think this update beats easily any new car or track they will add in the future. I already got my best Christmas gift this year.

The electric BMW minivan race was fun! P1-19 on my grid was covered by less than a second in qualifying. And after the 12 laps the entire field was within 30 seconds at the finish with 5-15 in a tight line. A shame they drive like a bathtub on ice skates. Oversteer at turn in, not stable mid corner, understeer on exit. Miserable, but fun in that setting at least.
Did you have clear track in front of you? Because yeah that would get boring pretty quickly.
There's still single player stuff. What's now effectively the license stuff is one group of 48 total tests. There's a set of 64 varied scenarios as well, which range from basic overtaking to 30-minute endurance races, and in a massive variety of cars. What's gone are the multi-race single player championships and hyper mega endurance races of 4-24 hours. And of course there's the standard arcade and time trial mode stuff, and a photo mode you could spend the rest of your life goofing around in if you wanted to.

Yeah, I was bummed about some of the single player stuff, but it ended up being better than the fears I had coming in. The online stuff I'll note is meant to be very low key and available to players at any skill level, with really detailed matchmaking to skill and sportsmanship. The multi-race tourneys are a special thing on top of the daily specific races. Worth a mention that it has my attention despite being someone who's spent 20 years of online gaming staying as far away as openly competitive stuff as possible. Is it worth the full retail price if you don't want any of the online content? Honestly? Probably not.

Edit: Oh, right, I forgot the circuit experience mode where you time trial out the sectors and eventually full laps at each track. Good challenge!

Ended up picking it up on Black Friday after the promise of GT League. I'm happy I got it but really pleased I waited for the discount. You explained it perfectly :)

Oh thank goodness. I've taken a liking to the Citroen's strangely enough so will probably go with them once I can change it.

I just want to go with someone other than Porsche because I have a feeling that's the manufacturer most will gravitate towards.

It's very different to classic GT but I'm of the opinion there's a lot of offline content. If you have a desire to better yourself and gold everything it will easily take you at least 20+ hours as long as you're not a freak of nature.

Thanks :) Ended up getting it on Black Friday and have been making my way through the single player content. Enjoying it but glad I waited for the sale

Just did the FIA races. Made a mess of Interlagos -- qualified 14th with the 458 amidst a sea of Meganes, worked my way up to 11th on the second lap, and on the straight after the first downward S I went inside because I didn't have enough speed to pass the driver on right. Wasn't paying enough attention and couldn't see the brake markers and woosh, went off into the deep sand pit. Took me 15 seconds to get out, race was done for me at that point. At least it was my mistake and not being bumped off.

Yamagiwa was thrilling though. Qualified 11th in the 4c, had cars in front and back the whole time. Held 8th for most of the race until the pressure got to me a bit and made enough minor mistakes on the back half of the track to let one go ahead of me. Got slowed up by them and another came past me, ended up 10th with a gap of .2 secs.

I feel like the DR meter is a bit unfair. It seems weighted towards finishing in the top 3. But in the Yamagiwa race most of the field was B/S (two ranks above me), I moved up and finished 10th, and my DR meter only went up 2 pixels. Is the Strength of Field system only applicable to the FIA points? Because I feel like I should be getting a bigger boost from racing against higher-ranked players.

Did anybody notice lap times falling dramatically? The update gave us more grip yes but that in turn has allowed people to confidently turn off driving aids like oversteer and traction control.

I was wondering why suddenly I'm driving my ass off just to qualify 16th whereas before I could get into the top 5 with some practice

Well I turned off those aids and I easily set a new personal best immediately. Before the update, even lowering TC to 1 would send me spinning off the first corner.

They need to do something about ramming people from behind in corners, like yesterday.

It's gonna be ELO hell. I'm losing SR rating on every race because I'm at the front of the pack.

They might as well make every Gr.4 race a single make Megane race, because that's what it's turned into.

I made the mistake of not having a Megane in my garage for the Interlagos Nation's cup race last night, all none Meganes were left fighting it out at the back, just ridiculous on a power track like that. And the Bathurst sport race was just the same.

My go to Gr4 cars are the Scirrocco and the TT but can always lap faster in the Megane.

Yeah in tonight's Manufacturers race at Bathurst there was only 1 Megane which won of course, the rest of the top ten were either VW or Audi. GR.4 is the worst class for balance.

They need to do something about ramming people from behind in corners, like yesterday.

I dunno, it all depends how lucky you are with the crowd. I find decent peeps are fine when your up front but when your mid pack often collisions are pretty unavoidable, and you let off to miss someone and drop 3 places.

I'm just not racing in Gr.4 until PD fixes it. It basically turned into a One Make Race.

Manufacturers is better than straight sport mode but you still need to be driving an Audi, VW or Porsche. Going with Mercedes this time around was a mistake for me.

Finally got round to getting Gold on all the Driving School Lessons. It's almost like a game in itself, was quite fun (although fuck dirt driving).

I am very glad I did decide to invest in a wheel as it has made the whole experience a lot more fun.

Now time to learn the tracks for real.....

This was my Bathurst race from tonight in the Manufacturers competition. Distinct disadvantage driving for Mercedes in GR.4 class and had a nightmare in qualifying so was back in 19th. Got up to 14th when the guy ahead falls off the track and picks up a penalty which he then tries to lose by sticking his brakes on just after the bend - of course I go into him so he accelerates away then does it again and again I hit him. Third time the game ghosts him and I finally get past but have lost a load of time to the guys behind me but worse is to come as the guy full on rams me at the chicane sending me from 13th to 16th. I pass him and complete the last lap to finish 15th (he tries the ramming move again on the last lap but misses).
There's quite a lot of action in this video for a Bathurst race but the incident in question starts around 15.10.

And the penalty for his twattish behaviour? A red S.

Just did the FIA races myself. It said on the schedule that they were going to 7pm again, but nope...last race was 6pm. Ridiculous.

Anyway, I had a good race on Maggiore GP with the 911. Tough car to drive, but I ended up 8th. But Bathurst, what a disaster. I was excited to drive it because I had a couple of great races on it in a daily. I qualified 7th in the 4c, it's quite good in those twisties. But purely my fault, I was pushing slightly too hard on that straight before the hook turn and went far into the grass and then the sand pit. By the time I got out I was 18th. I really had no chance at that point because 1) it's incredibly hard to pass on this track unless your car is faster on the straights, 2) the drivers at the back of the pack were extremely dirty and sloppy.

The worst part of the Bathurst race was that the headlights turned dust into a smoke machine. I don't know if it was intentional, but several times the cars ahead of me would dip their wheel into the dirt before making a turn, causing me to go into the turn basically blind. Totally missed my mark a few times because of that.

edit: yeah just skimmed through your race, that guy was full stop trying to take you out no matter what. What a prick.

So I just did two races on the MINI VGT (which btw has no cockpit...quality work there, Kaz) daily race. Finished in the top 10 with a mix of A and B DR drivers (I'm D), had a blue S, and my DR went down. I don't get this system at all, but obviously I'm never getting out of D.

Also, just saw they posted a notice for an Emergency Update (no idea when it is):
-------------------
We will be performing an emergency update for Gran Turismo Sport to fix an issue that has been identified.

Please note this update is NOT the update for additional vehicles as notified in the "Notice regarding upcoming updates to Gran Turismo Sport"

The items that will be fixed by this update are as follows:

1. Physics Simulation Model
- The TCS controls will be adjusted to increase stability at throttle ON in corner exits.

Other issues have been corrected to increase stability.

Please continue to enjoy Gran Turismo Sport.
--------------------

Additional stability to the TCS? Is Kaz just having a laugh at this point?

Updated. Really wish PD allowed 20 in lobbies.
Looks like I missed the boat on this, i'm GMT and evenings should be ok for an hour or so, i'm happy to be put on a reserve list.

I have to say this game is incredible as an online experience, there are way more great races than crap ones, I come from iracing and this is nearly as good for a significantly smaller investment. As long as you qualify top half you are pretty much guaranteed a decent race, I love the sportsmanship, there are a number of times i've handed a place back, or someone has lifted on a straight to give me a place back. Following a car less than a car length knowing they aren't going to do anything stupid is very satisfying. I'm now Class C, so am hoping for some challenging races.

Quick question, have I missed it or is there a way to load a Top 10 Ghost and race against it ? Also how do I know what progress I am making on my DR rating ? I saw talk of a progress bar ?

They added in the last update that you can download and watch the replay of the top drivers on the daily race leaderboards, but you can't load them as ghosts in your own qualifying.

The DR progress bar is in My Menu in the top left corner GT logo menu. Note that DR level can't raise above your SR level.
