This is nothing compared to the old days of the D1 OT. There would be a new one every few days at its peak!

I spent a few hours last night playing competitive and it is truly infuriating how many people leave matches as soon as they think they are going to lose.

After getting banned from GAF i was pretty ok with it... until DestinyGAF formed and I couldn't be a part of it.

So happy to be here. Well, I will be moreso once this game has a proper endgame.

It almost feels impossible to me but yesterday and today I got another 3 Prospectors. That is 6 Prospectors total on one character. The only other exotic weapon I've gotten was the DARCI right before Xur came and was selling it.
Not to mention, Xur is selling Actium War Rig and my only exotic armor drop was ACD/0 feedback fence, both of which are options from doing the story quest.

I have NOT had good exotic luck on this character lol.

Great game. Improved so much over Destiny 1. So, with the adventures.. of you beat them, will they randomly re appear back on the map after a week or be completed properly?

Still salty shaders are consumables. I can't make my character look good until end game.

Continued my playthrough on PC this morning. I think I'm about 75% done with the campaign now. The cutscenes dropping down to 30fps from 75fps is really jarring to me, I wish they could have fixed that somehow or applied a motion blur effect to the 30fps to make things look smoother.

Haven't touched the Crucible at all yet but I've been doing a lot of adventures and staying at or over level for the campaign missions. Once I finish the campaign I think I'm gonna clear all the adventures before jumping into crucible, I never finished them on Xbox.

Can someone explain how discord works to me? I'm rather new around these parts, thanks.
It's a chat app you can use on your pc or smartphone. You have to have an invite link to join the DestinyERA group.

The latest message on invite codes on the group was:

2) **We are reopening the Discord today.** However, this will be slow. 4chan & 8chan raids are continuing (one happened this morning), so invites will be 1/person and single use. At this time, invites are only for DGAF regulars, folks who people on this server have known for a long time and can personally vouch for. It is not necessary that they be a die hard poster, but they should have a history with us.
3) Invite procedure: PM a mod with who you want to invite, and the mod will issue you an invite code. We will then review the logs to make certain that person actually joins, not some rando. You can PM any mod for this.
4) We will open wider with time, but it is very unlikely that we will put an open invite in the OT again given this recent unpleasantness.

Finally gave crucible a reluctant try after beating the game, and it was...a little underwhelming. You can tell the 4 player team would benefit greatly from some voice chat shenanigans.

So I now have a question. I don't know if any of you recognize me from the old forum, or from some of the discord chats this past weekend, but if anyone does, could I possibly get a vouch for an an invite to the discord? I only just got Destiny 2, so my participation in these OTs has been nonexistent. I'll understand if it can't be done.

Thanks.

Thank you! So as I can see I can't join in because i'm not a long time member. No biggie, i'll just wait and see how it all works out.

Yeah i would say just use this thread to LFG and play with people for now and I guess that will build trust for an eventual discord invite. Thread is still a great tool even though discord exists.

I feel you on that. I'm the type of person that changes my mind on what shader I want a few minutes after I find one that I like. I went back to D1 yesterday and it was such a relief being able to swap back and forth without a care in the world. I will say that being able to selectively apply shaders is a great feature though.

Shaders as consumables would have been fine if you got them back after dismantling an item. The current system is just ass.

Like now I just have a huge stack of shaders that's never going to be used.

I don't know why they thought this was a good idea.

I'm not even sure if there's a transmute feature neither? Make an armour look like another but keep the stats.

I am super addicted to chipotle quesos.

In D1 I can get trains going almost all the time, getting a wagon going in D2 is like trying to get kids to eat veggies.

If they really wanted to keep the shader grind, I would honestly be okay if they made them consumables until you unlocked 50 or so of a single shader and then after that, it's unlocked for unlimited use. I just don't see a logical use to the current systems besides really pushing the players towards the Eververse.

I'm not on that much in the evenings these days, but feel free to send an invite when I am. I'm always down to pvp.

... It's still an acquired taste though.

I feel like the current system doesn't really push you toward eververse either. I've never used any of my eververse shaders so I have no incentive to buy bright engrams to get more.

I feel like a good compromise between the old D1 way and the current way would be that once you use a shader on a piece of equipment, it is always unlocked for that specific piece. So, even if you change the shader, you can always go into the dropdown selection (Maybe a separate one for permanent shaders?) and choose any previous shader you've used on that item. Personally though, I still prefer D1 system.

That's pretty much how ship SKINs work in EVE Online, and it's a method that's pretty fair for both developers and players. There may be a pattern that's available for most every ship, for example, but it's a separate, individual (consumed on use, but permanent) license for each hull. So you acquire a skin for hulls you want it on and you're good, don't for hulls you don't care about or can't use/whatever.

hey guys, looking for any tips.

New player to Destiny, currently at max power 273. Most purples are currently dropping at 266. Important notes (I think):

  • I have one 288 power weapon (MIDA)
  • I have 3 "Powerful Gear" engrams to pick up.
  • I have a two +5 gear mods and two +5 weapon mods.
  • I am wearing 4 items equipped that are level 265. One piece of 270 gear that rolled with a leg mod on it.
  • I do not have access to the level 280 mod making feature.
  • I have 2000 bright dust from some big gifts along the way I think
  • I have not completed the "Destroyer of Worlds" or "Rat King's Crew" items.

What things should I be looking to do to continue to progress in power level other than turning in my "powerful gear" items?

At this point, am I just hoping for purple and yellow engram drops that can replace my 265/266 items with 270/271 items?

When do I consider using these +5 mods?

Thanks for your time guys. Trying to not fuck up and have some peace of mind that I'm doing the right things to advance. I am starting to get some paralysis of analysis.

That would actually probably work decently well I think, especially since all gear has static rolls. You wouldn't need to worry about getting a better piece of gear and losing that shader since all you would need to do would be to infuse it.

By the way, is anyone here playing with a controller on PC?

I have a wired 360 controller I could plug in, but so far I've just been rocking M+KB and it has been alright. I'm not usually a huge fan of M+KB for shooters either, as my heyday for playing shooters was with the 360 from 2007-2010 or so. After that my interest in most shooters waned as I got into a lot of WoW, Dota 2, and other PC titles. I think one of the few shooters I have actually completed on PC is BioShock Infinite, and that was probably the last one too.

I might have to give the controller a whirl though, just to compare.

Welcome to the grind. Complete all of the weekly milestone that you can. Flashpoints and Crucible are easy to do if you don't have friends to play with. Once you get up to 280 (or 270 I forget off the top of my head), you can start getting legendary mods that add +5 power to whichever item it's applied too. That will shoot you up quickly.

My friend got Dire Promise (Dead Orbit HC from faction rally) from an engram on PC. I guess they just added all the faction rally items into the loot pool on PC?

Blown away how fast the experience comes just doing some adventures and public events. Waiting for a friend to get back on so I stopped doing the main story quest and went from 14 to 20 just in the last day. Light level is 210 so I guess the new grind starts.

Lots of people reporting a possible(likely) memory leak that crops up after a few hours of play.
Gotta close the game completely and reopen to fix it temporarily.
Will still come back. Hopefully a patch for it will be soon.
Ok played again, there's definetely something weird going on.
60 fps and then after a while started going on 54. But the really weird thing is that when talking with an npc the framerate dropped again, and dropped by 1 frame after everytime I've talked with it (and opened the relative "shop")

More power level tips:

Mods don't affect the level of rewards/drops. So use purple mods on items you intend to keep. Don't use them on crap stuff just to boost your power.

Cash in powerful engrams when all your stuff is above the vendor/drop level. Once you've got a couple of powerful items, your drops will probably start being above the level of your worst items.

Is Hawkian here? He had a good list of top tier guns that you shouldn't dismantle.
Get Nameless Midnight as your final campaign reward (origin story is good too, but there are several good alternative autorifles).

Would this memory leak have anything to do with a sudden spike in CPU temps? I'm normally around 65-70c when playing for a short while but after a longer session it can spike to 85c. This is on a i5-4690 with the stock fan. Idle temps are low 30s.
