Just re-quoting Cerium's post (without linking to him so we're not bothering him) just to remind everyone to keep discussion to Jones and the EZA community rather than Colin in case they wanted to discuss Jones' Twitter posts.
Hello. The team has issued multiple red posts, warnings, and bans in an attempt to get this thread back on topic. Nothing seems to have worked.

If this thread is going to be a Colin Moriarty thread, it will have to be locked. That is the very last outcome we want. Please do not make us take that step.

Thread from Jones which gives me some hope that good can come out of this, especially points 4 and 7.

The proof is, of course, in the pudding. But at least it looks like the oven is on.

To be frank this whole twitter thread seem completely devoid of any substance. Like what is he saying concretely?

The replies to Jones' tweets are infuriating. So many people just don't get it and bring out terms like 'snowflakes' and 'outrage' and 'melodrama' and 'safe spaces'. People suck.

Again not saying much about this particular situation in those tweets, but as per the mods I'm trying to move on here (I was going to anyway tbh, I've been a good boy!), so I guess I'll let Jones do the same this time. I've said this before, but if any of this manages to change the way EZA handles these situations in the future like Brandon says it will I'll at least be happy about that. I'll just believe in that for now.

The replies however, hurt. I shouldn't have read those.

You know an easy update episode is good if issa likes it. ;)
At this point it's part of my brand :p

Very clever but I didn't like the part where he said he's thought of killing off the character :(
Playing a character is an easy way to let out real and raw emotions without feeling vulnerable, which is why a lot of people joke about their mental health problems.
Also I think this is the first time Ian publicly labeled his gender identity, and in an edited video nonetheless.

I think the thing that made me feel even more strongly about pulling my pledge(and it being justified and it still just sucks) over the whole thing has been seeing the response of the community itself. The people that were against it because likely they were already getting shit on got shit on more by people that never had/have and probably never will have to deal with any of that shit. Basically people that spoke up about this just got double screwed and painted as crazy and maybe we were. That's kinda how the world feels asking anyone for empathy makes you a crazy SJW.
And the favorite position of the day is of course "I don't see any issues". There has not been a single response that I've seen that has answered everything we cited 1 by 1 to maybe let us see the light of why we should forgive again. Just dismissiveness. I feel like the attitudes were more l appropriate towards someone that made 1 mistake and got unfairly crucified not several ones all stemming from the core issue of a lack of empathy.
The replies to Jones' tweets are infuriating. So many people just don't get it and bring out terms like 'snowflakes' and 'outrage' and 'melodrama' and 'safe spaces'. People suck.
This is the thing that got supported(and oh boy this is like everywhere in the response to Jones' tweet and the unofficial EZA subreddit), intentionally or not. It's the stuff that makes me just lose all faith in L+R cause it's sets the precedent for speaking up just to get shit on from everywhere for people that already get shit on in real life, to speak is being a crazy, being a controlling freak that apparently doesn't respect freedom or some shit, nothing the other side does can ever be so wrong to give up on them so just tough it out people. It's stuff that makes people that are already cornered in life feel even more cornered so what are they supposed to do they can only leave at that point.

Cause for this and every issue relating to empathy responses will always be like this.
It's just incredibly insane to ask them to tough it out again.
But it is what it is. I'm still torn over what to really do but for now I feel like the most important thing to me is disconnecting to the point of being a really casual fan the whole thing is only upsetting since I kinda was invested in it. It's far easier to swallow the shit of the internet when there are no expectations and it's just the usual stuff.

It's good that we move on and a new week of content includng the GA's (I hope some-stay-at-home-Allies react) and PSX should help greatly to do that.
My take on problematic situations is that I'll let Jones and the Allies make mistakes - if they learn from them it will only get better. There have been situations during the first year I disagreed with like how aspects of the birthday festivities were handled and that Jones was absent from too many important EZA E3 live sltreams. But this is all uncharted territory for them through which they have to find their way and it may lead to a metaphorical bloody nose here or there. However usually there are signs that indvidual Allies and the group as a whole learn and draw the right conclusions for the next time. That will only make them and all of us stronger.

He's saying that he understands the controversy and that he is listening which I do believe that more now. He's also saying that he's going to be talking with the allies more about the issue to figure out where to go from here, which seems crazy seeing how it seems like this all started so long ago now but I do sort of get it, I imagine he's had a lot to read and digest over the past couple weeks and I would rather have him take his time than just react imediatly and say that everyone who disagrees with him is wrong.

Those comments, ugh. They check a lot of boxes that's for sure. Wish I had more faith that Jones wouldn't be so naive to take them seriously.

The best thing about the Easy Update episode is that some people are legitimately confused and think Ian Hinck is a character bit now. Ian is brilliant. And yeah, I was unexpectedly moved watching the episode. Ian is a star. <3

some people are kinda dumb. the amount of times they have to point out in a podcast "that thing we said last week [that was clearly a joke] was a joke" is surprising

good episode though

Yeah, that Easy Update was really good. I'm glad I watched it in it's entirety. At first I just skipped through fast to see what it's about and I didn't get it. But after watching it from start to finish, it was great. Thanks to commenters here that I watched it!

Edit: Oh right, it wasn't an Easy Update episode but it's own thing.

Also I think this is the first time Ian publicly labeled his gender identity, and in an edited video nonetheless.

There was the time in a skit that he met "future Ian" who was straight up played by a woman. I guess that's not technically labeling though, so much as it is strongly alluding.

The mods said unless something new came up, drop it. Something new has come up. My takeaway is that the other Allies probably talked to Brandon about this and he assumed things would calm down a week later. Short of the admins getting involved here at least, it hasn't.

I imagine there will be a better statement forthcoming either from all the Allies, or next Tuesday on Cup of Jones. But at this point, I specifically want Jones to call out people who are being assholes on Twitter to other members of the EZA community.

This is the vital part of that whole feed. There will be discussions inside the company. I imagine those discussions are either ongoing or will happen Tuesday before or after the group stream. We will probably get a real update the week after that on the Cup of Jones or a Patreon post. Or we may hear nothing at all. That's something they will figure out.

That he's not just ignoring us basically. He also mentions that he recognizes saying "love and respect" and leaving it at that may not be enough in a world where a pedophile may soon be welcomed into the United States Senate with open arms.

I think your probably right. They need to have a plan for dealing with harassment that is people within the community harnessing each other as well as people outside the community harnessing community members.

I'm not sure anyone thinks he's thin-skinned. He's obviously used to getting shitty comments. Regardless, it sucks that he has to get them.
Yeah pretty much this. I already said Ian is pretty remarkable being able to take all the shit he gets in strides and still write something so compassionate as his recent tweets. That def makes me a less good person than him. But that doesn't mean that the shit he gets is any less reprehensible or ok and shouldn't be condemned by everyone with a lick of decency in their bone.

That Ryan Thompson sketch was very interesting to me. It feels like the perfect response to all the hatred, because it forces people to be confronted with the absurdness of criticising Ian for who he is - as if he could or should change into something else.

Subverting that idea by claiming that Ian is the fabrication, makes viewers wonder if they failed or passed the purpose of the experiment and look at their actions to this point as a result.

I'm happy that Ian did this, he brings a side to the group that I can connect with and am glad he seems to be supported by the others.

That easy update was amazing. This is the sort of stuff that I love coming out of EZA, even if it's just Ian. Other creators out there just aren't making stuff like this.

I want that XC2 review so badly though, need to hear Ben Moore's verdict on this.

Although Ian at times can come across as a comic that is constantly trying to throw jokes in at most discussions, he's seriously one of the smartest allies of the bunch and most talented.

The allies (and us the fans) are extremely lucky to have him in our community.

(He is extremely funny anyways, just to point out)

Just checked the EZA subreddit.

That was a mistake. A lot of people there really don't like Ryan :/

I've been way too busy over the last 2 weeks and am only now catching up with EZA content.
That Easy Update ist absolutely brilliant. The pen convention is probably my favorite Fiasconauts episode so far.
