Previews start next week!

Here's a look at the rehearsals: https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/931149072064491521

Is there anyone here watching the Previews? Anyone got tickets to this?

Cast:

Recent graduate Jamael Westman will be making his West End debut in the titular role of Alexander Hamilton, with Ash Hunter filling in for him in certain performances.

Meanwhile, Olivier Award nominated actor Michael Jibson will step into King Georges' shoes for the West End run.

The part of Aaron Burr will be taken on by Giles Terera, who has also starred in The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q.

Rachel Ann Go will be taking on the role of Alexander Hamilton's wife Eliza Schuyler, she has previously appeared in Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.

The role of her sister, Angelica, will be taken on by former Bodyguard star Rachel John.

Obioma Ugoala will be portraying George Washington and Christine Allado will be Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds.

Jason Pennycooke has been cast to play Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson and Cleve September is all set to play John Laurens and Philip Hamilton.

The characters of Hercules Mulligan and James Madison will be played by recent graduate Tarinn Callender.

I haven't seen Hamilton live and I will for the first time in West End in March, so I'm very eager to hear reviews of this show. I feel like Lin-Manuel living in London during this time will possibly make this an unforgettable way to watch the play.

Very curious to see how the UK receives Hamilton - both in how it's reviewed and how it performs financially.

I'm not worried about the fact that I'll be seeing a matinee, but I don't want to Rachelle to switch to her understudy. I'll have to wait to see how they do it.

My ticket is in March.

I have to imagine how it'll review will hinge based on this production's acting and singing. Financially, well, do West End showgoers overlap much with Brexit voters?

I'm glad this is habbeding because the Australian productions of shows are often built around one or two of the London cast members. If they're hyping this now, that means Australia late 2018 (please?)

If you have the ability to see this, do it. Seeing this in New York was an incredible experience and Lin's twitter hype building for this production is enough to assure me this will be amazing as well.

I'm going in May. Really looking forward to it (after what will have been a 17 month wait since booking).

Also really interested in how this is received, as it's focused on the American Revolution. Also, the music style is not as popular there I'd imagine. Hopefully the underlying message shines through.

I got to see it live in Chicago and I was fucking floored, it was incredible. The whole world should see it. I want the original cast recording to be released so I can watch it over and over again.

I've been very curious how the UK would react to Hamilton as well.

Also to the best character:

Brah brah I am Hercules Mulligan

Did I hear your mother say "Come again?"
Lock up your daughters and horses!
Of course, it's hard to have intercourse
Over four sets of corsets!

Six rhymes in three lines! It's just incredible.

Apparently he lives in London at the moment. I have no interest in theatre and even i wanna see this. I probably won't be able to buy tickets till like 2019 and I am not sure if I am joking

2019 doesnt sound so crazy when you consider thats only a year out, which yeah sure that sounds nuts but its the first and only run in europe. It's not like a movie with multiple theaters and screens and showtimes everyday.

The idea that they could easily sell out a few hundred shows isn't really crazy when you think about it that way. (Then again this is an america centric story)

Hm, I thought rap/hip hop/musicals were very popular musical genres in the U.K. ?

Musicals are popular and rap/hip hop is popular. There isn't much of a crossover in audiences outside of the usual metropolitan intelligentsia. I've listened to Hamilton and it's musical style has much more in common with the general musical than it does a typical hip hop track.

People in this thread wondering how this will be received are likely unfamiliar with how much the Brits know or care about the American Revolution. The answer is very little. It's barely taught in schools and most general knowledge of the revolution is gained through absorption of American media about it. Films like The Patriot.

As is the case with most of these West End musicals, the content is actually secondary to the fact that it is yet another critically acclaimed musical that will attract the usual crowd and a few more. The Book of Mormon is a huge success and Mormons just aren't a thing in the UK outside of the missionaries hanging out in Wetherspoons and eating fish and chips.

As a Brit I love Hamilton. I also love theater, so my opinion might not match all. To me the history is removed from present Britain it doesn't even factor in.

Same reason Germans play WWII games.

I hate musicals but someone suggested I go see The Producers because even people who don't like musicals like it. So I went to see The Producers and I thought it was just as shite as the rest. So I am not convinced.

In the first ticket sale, I managed to get through and was about to buy seats in the circle before deciding that nah, I'll splash for something closer to the stage. By the time I'd hit back and chosen something else, they'd sold out :D

Some day...

I was lucky enough to get a ticket in the second release for next Wednesday! So hyped!

If you are trying to get tickets I'd periodically check the Ticketmaster website. The way they're handling tickets for this means that there a lot more return tickets available through official channels.

King George is one of the best parts of the show. You guys will love it.
It is, one of the greatest hip hop albums. Just listen to the soundtrack with her.
It's still very much a musical. Especially in structure. There are many non hip hop songs in it. Having said that it's utterly brilliant.

Got some great seats for May, 5 rows from the front. ÂŁ200 per ticket is extortion but it meant they were available way after tickets went on sale.

Yeah, glad to see London happening because you're right, there seems to be a pattern of Melbourne being like "we should do that!".

I'll see it 100 times if it comes here...

Book of Mormon made the wait easier :)

Where the Fenians Sleep
Nooo.
He was accused of being an anglophile and a royalist. He was just good for business and not wanting to get caught up in the French revolution.

The man led one of the final assaults at Yorktown.

He absolutely was an Anglophile. Pretty much all of his policy was built around a core of respecting and desiring to emulate the British state. Federalism is essentially an anglophilic response to Civic Republicanism. Which is quite all right in my book, because it's obviously the better system.

I went to the first preview on Wednesday. The show is absolutely incredible, by far the best musical I've ever seen. The guy playing Hamilton seemed, understandably, a little nervous at the start but he quickly relaxed and was amazing in the role.
