There's a japanese drama series on Netflix called Hibana -Spark- that uses a lot of one takes and the purpose they serve is in creating tension. The show is about a younger, struggling comedian befriending an older, much more volatile comedian whom he looks up to and respects and a lot of their interactions have this dynamic of him being extremely unsure of himself and wanting to impress this person who has taken him on as a student. The one takes are never flashy with timing costume changes or effects (one involves weather, I guess) and it takes a little bit to even notice that it's happening, but what you get is this uneasy feeling, like when a silence hits a room for too long, and you just need something to release the tension so bad. It's actually really well done and subtle, which is something I don't find myself being able to say about japanese dramas very often.
