Anyone else think a high percentage of those who keep claiming BC2 is the best BF started playing the franchise with that game? I like BC2, its great, but it really is a seperate entity from the main line series.

To be honest, Resetera is a such a console-focused forum that I'd be surprised if there were double-digit numbers of people who played a BF game before Bad Company.

Run and gun in bf5 barely works though. With the lack of spotting options, the game is definitely slower paced than bf1. If you try to play it fast paced and just running around crazily, you will inevitably get shot from behind.

What game modes are you playing? I went from COD BLOPS IIII to BFV and they cannot be any more different on almost every fundamental level.

I mean, it's not really unfair to point out that Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 just so happened to make major departures from the previous games (even the previous console games like BF2 Modern Combat and Bad Company) right as CoD Fever was a thing.

The weirder part is suggesting that BF1 and BFV are where the "CODification" occurred.[/QUOTE
I think people use the "CODification" as a simple throwaway description on why they don't like the new games. It's easier to use than to actually explain why someone might prefer the older games. A lot of peoples first Battlefield was BC2 and that wasn't even the full Battlefield experience. BF3 was the first full 64 players, conquest, jets etc. game on console so it's easy to see why people who never played Battlefield before those games think the "CODification" happened recently.

I agree, the TTK is too low and the run and gun, die, repeat feels like Metro/Locker. The maps do feel small and the guns don't feel like WW2 guns but reskinned modern weapons shooting at an absurd rate of fire.

Attrition system would be a good addition if everyone didn't just zerg every point in objective based maps.

Note first: I've never played Bad Company 2. Probably I should because I have a gaming PC now...

But imo, for some reason, I find BFv's "run and gun" gameplay to be more arcady than BF1. Not sure if that's how the game is supposed to be or it's just me.... these are my biggest complaints that keeps me from not playing this game.

-Bombers are overall better than fighter planes (more damage against ground infantry) and has good enough agile. Meanwhile fighter planes are basically useless atm.

-Breakthrough is terrible. 3 matches was enough for me and never coming back to it.

-The summit map is by far the worst map i've ever played. It's literally a farming kill for bombers rn

-NO point in sniping when basically all LMG's and SMG's have good range and damage. I was getting wrecked because I've kept getting hitmarkers on sniper rifles (even shooting on the head)(A bug possibly?). Then I've switched to support class, and literally can take down snipers across buildings, hills, etc. No wonder I don't see many snipers as much anymore.

-Not a fan on bleeding system too. usually takes me 7-12 seconds to spawn. I HATE it when the bleeding takes a while too.

These are my complaints so far. Is Bad Com nay 2 still active on PC? Noticed that it's still on Steam atm.

The amount of bitching about Battlefield that Battlefield players do is staggering. I generally expect it in forums, but half my matches in BF5 are filled with insipid arguments about somehow each and every Battlefield game is sellout casual horseshit. Only 2 and 1942 seem to have any reverence, and I suspect that's because people forget how janky they were or never played them.

That's how I felt playing the beta. I enjoyed it a little but bf4 has a way better feel to it. More slower and tactical. BFV feels to chaotic

I just hate the CODification of Battlefield.BF5 is even more run&gun than BF1.Its just too chaotic,it feels like COD with 64 players.Maps are too small, you can't even play tactically, everything is so crammed like a giant clusterfuck.Have a feeling there's always 2-3 enemies 20meters around you.

I hate what Battlefield had become.I miss the glory days of BF2(2006) and BF3
lol wat...

you must have totally forgotten BF3 Metro??

That was by far the most popular individual map when it came to servers running one map 24/7

Battlefield being CoD-ified is 100% true. It's not a new thing though, it started with the original Bad Company.

It stopped being a sandbox war game with vehicles and infantry and it became an infantry game with occasional rare vehicle powerups. There are even maps without vehicles (!!!).

That said, Battlefield became significantly more popular when EA went this route, so there's no real earthly reason to go back. The game is still good too, so whatever.

I've got both BO4 and BFV, and they play nothing alike.

I actually haven't played BF mutliplayer this much since BF2. The game feels great.

My only issue really with modern battlefield is taking the vehicles spawn off the battlefield.

It's too battlefront. It's like DICE is converging the gameplay of Battlefield and Battlefront so they just have to re-skin and make some tweaks the gameplay each year to meet a yearly release.

Part of the fun of battlefield was raiding the opposing teams vehicles.

Well this is conspiratorial for no good reason. It was a change they made because people complained about not being able to get into (insert vehicle here) fast enough

I don't like it all but it's an issue people did have.

Oh, another "I miss the old days" topic. The gunplay and traversal in Battlefield has never felt better. I've played all of the games including the Modern Combat console versions.. and the core gameplay is great in V. Just need some tweaks and better maps.

Nah, I played every BF from 1942 to BF4 on PC and still think BC2 is the best. I haven't played I or V so I won't chime in on these, but BF 3 & 4 went overboard with gun customization (which you had to constantly re-set, because the game liked to "forget" your loadouts), unlocks (via Achievements!), meat grinder maps and fragmentation due to 5+ expansions and the lack of players for anything but the popular CQ maps.

I don't get the love for BC2 tbh. I thought it was okay. BFV is the best BF in a long long time and I've played almost every BF except 2142 and the first BC. I even played the p4f and heroes entries. Lol. V doesn't play like CoD at all.

I'm a longtime Battlefield veteran as well, and I really don't see a problem. I love the way the game feels right now. But yeah from a technical perspective the game needs some bug fixes still.

Battlefield 2142 is still the best.

I feel like the exact opposite is true. Because there's no 3D spotting is much easier to be aggressive and flank without being detected.

The whole BC2 comments are always weird to me really. When people say i will be back to BF when they announce BC3.
Like what would make it BC3? The biggest standout of BC2 was the funny campaign. They rest of the game including the MP its in the same line as any other BF game.

So you prefer 20 people camping at spawn waiting for the one tank/jet that will get immediately blow up?

Oh how I miss 1942. If I could make one change, I'd have planes spawn on the ground at airfields again. As stated above, it's the move from sandbox with vehicles to vehicles as occasional power-ups that irks me the most.

I had the same feeling as OP. Felt like CoD with hardly any vehicles being used and just a repeated meat grinder pattern of spawn/die. Least liked BF ever for me, but I'm one of the crazies who loved BF1 =/

Agree OP. I've been playing BF since 1942 and this is the first one I've skipped, aside from Hardline.

Considering how much slower paced the flow is and the fact that the attrition system force people to actually work together. It's basically the furthest it's been compared to cod.

IDK how people can say that BFV or any recent Battlefield is "codified" and then say they want the games to be more like BC2, it's like an oxymoron.

As someone that played BFV and BO4 this year, this couldn't be farther from the truth. I can run and gun on BO4 no problem, can't do that in BFV. I'm always trying to take cover and trying to find a strategic vantage point. You can't do shit in this game without teammates. And don't get me started on how nice it is to play without BS killstreaks popping up.

Holy shit. I had googled this prior to release and always came away thinking that the spawn system would be the same as BF1. Will buy.

It is the same. This map has a runway because the germans kinda have a base camp there.
Most of the time starting on runways doesn't make sense because battles are not played next to an Airfield.

But that didn't come from Battlefront....that came from Battlefield 4.

Vehicles were regular map spawns in BF4....you could grab a tank on the field or you could spawn from the spawn-screen into it and it was for the better because it created gameplay by itself.
Stealing enemy vehicles or when trying to capture a base, a lucky vehicle spawns, you make a run for it and get in to annihilate the defending squad with it.

The new spawn with a vehicle system is garbage and reeks battlefront just like all the recycled animations from Battlefront 1/2

Bad Company 2 was fun, but I hated the low player count. The maps were generally good but it never felt like a war.
