And yet according to my knowledge and googling its STILL not available to stream or buy anywhere. At least in the UK.
With how prominent OSTs are in gaming now a days its fucking annoying that they dont release them day and date or near it.

It's top-tier, and the way the music comes in to support moments of the game is second to none.

Exactly. That's what puts it above all other efforts this year and arguably this gen for me. It's one thing, and wholly commendable to compose a great soundtrack, it's a separate effort to implement it properly in game to where it not only elevated the moments it's utilized but also stands out on its own. For that reason alone it's the only soundtrack I would truly call superb.

I can't decide between RDR2 and God of War for this year. Both have incredible soundtracks.

I mean, if we're talking any medium, then I would say the new Ice Nine Kills album haha.

For games...I think I would give it to God of War. Or Spider-Man.

American game outlets will give it best OST, but everyone knows Octopath had the best soundtrack of this year.

Best OST this year: God of War, Celeste and Red Dead. In that order.

Best OST this gen: Bloodborne, Persona 5, Gravity Rush 2 / Nier (can't decide).

Imo, of course.

Xenoblade 2: Torna the Golden country is the the best OST for me this year. I can't wait for it to release this December.

As for the Gen... Is was listening to Nier Automata's OST and it definitely gets my vote for OST of the Gen. Crumbling lies is magnificent track.

Far Cry 5 for me, the game has 3 soundtracks and the songs lyrics also added depth to the villians or just sounded awesome. Plus different renditions of the songs

Set Those Sinners Free

Like songs like this added to Faith Seeds story. Hated the cult but loved their music

It's pretty good but nowhere near OST of the generation.

Nier Automata & Persona 5 are basically tied for that title for me. Celeste, Bloodborne, Undertale & Xenoblade 2 are all up there for me as well.

Edit: How could I ever have forgotten Gravity Rush 2?!?

Probably but I really feel Tetris Effect deserves not just a nomination in TGA, but to win

It being the best "In any medium" is one of the most insane things I have ever read on this forum. Have you just not listened to music this year or something?

The RDR2 OST is good, pretty solid for a game soundtrack. Maybe one of the best game soundtracks this year. In terms of albums though? It isn't even top 20.

RDR II's OST is sublime, but I'd say it's tied with Celeste and Deltarune for my favorites of the year.

It's a pretty good OST, all I can say though, it's up there with Detroit: BH and GoW's OST IMO.

I absolutely loved RDR1's soundtrack, but for for some reason 2 just hasn't been sticking in my memory. It's weird.

Anyway, God of War is the one to beat this year IMO

Music's fine in RDR2, but even as I play it nothing is grabbing my attention here, as opposed to great OSTs like Automata, Bloodborne, Subnautica or this year's God God of War.

I like red dead soundtrack a lot but is not album of the year by any means. And that all right because it not suppose to.

You know what's more telling about people's gaming tastes and experiences than hyperbole threads about specific games?

Yep, hyperbole threads about video game soundtracks.

But RDR2 has it in the satchel 99%, rest assured. I doubt the people assigning the award will spend many words to explain why no other OST comes close. Even if I'd secretly like to hear their explanations on why OSTs such as Smash Ultimate's (to pick one that's going to be huge AND good) don't count for a variety of reasons.

What? No. These could as well be generic pop songs that you hear in the radio.
Highly disagree, the stunning visuals and trance like gameplay of Tetris compliment each other so well and the music is what really brings it all together. Tetris Effect has one of the most meaningful soundtracks of any game and when you're in the midst of playing (especially in VR) you go into a zen like state. The audio design is remarkable for gameplay purposes and the songs themselves are far more than "generic pop". The amount of genres crammed into this game is insane.

The fact that no one has posted any Deltarune songs yet bothers me so here you go

Toby Fox is one of the industry's best composers.

This is why there needs to be multiple categories for video game OST awards - there needs to be some sort of distinction between orchestral (God of War, Detroit, Red Dead Redemption 2) and non-orchestral/digital (Celeste, Deltarune, The Messenger).

Currently, my lineup for OSTs this year in my completely made-up categories would be something along the lines of:

Best Orchestral: God of War ("Of This Generation" Winner: Cuphead)
Best Digital: Celeste ("Of This Generation" Winner: Celeste)
Best Period Piece: Red Dead Redemption 2 ("Of This Generation" Winner: Cuphead)
Best Musicality: Red Dead Redemption 2 ("Of This Generation" Winner: Cuphead)

Spoiler alert: Cuphead has the best OST of the generation from a musicality/technicality standpoint, and it's not close. Like, there's not even a consideration for anything else. It's a travesty that Kristofer Maddigan isn't being touted as one of the best composers in every video game OST thread.

And not just in gaming but in any medium, right? I don't think the ost get as much credits as it should, It's been a long while since I've heard such a quality soundtrack, here a select few of my faves.

.

Wow, hearing that song again hit me like a ton of bricks, actually crying right now.

Yeah, definitely the best soundtrack this hear.
