At least he was the last one before they went completely insane. I didn't agree with his politics and he set the prevedent on appointing sexual predators on the Supreme Court with Clarence Thomas. His campaign also created the infamous and for it's time super racist (Trump has since made it look positively quaint) while pretending it was some nebulous outside group. He was not a monster, but he did plenty of shady shit in his time.

Please do not take this as me reveling in his death. He had family that lived him and he was at minimum pragmatic enough to actually effectively govern which is more than can be said about his party after his 92 loss. He had both good and bad traits and was a complicated figure.

I'm glad to see all the JFK Assassination posts. I hope Trump now fully declassifies as a middle finger to the Bush family. That would be the best thing he can do as a president.

He had been frail and in poor health for a while. It was only a matter of time. I didn't agree with all of his politics but he was the last sane and principled Republican President. I will give him credit for that. Funny how his own son was the opposite.

Obama is both an inspiration and a clown at times lol. We deserved a better principaled first Black president. He was one of us and unfortunately one of them.

He seemed like a decent enough person, though I was pretty young while he was in charge. 94 is a good run, although it's still probably tough coming from the recent death of Barbara Bush too.

I was alive for Reagan, but very young. Bush's is the first presidency from which I have clear memories, even if it seems like a lifetime ago.

Not crazy about his policies, but I'll give him (grudging) credit for having one of the strongest résumés in living memory of anyone seeking the office.

If you aren't willing to say George H.W. Bush is a piece of shit then who *are* you willing to say that about?

I don't know about you, but the parties I go to generally involve music and drinking, not a bunch of po-faced people forcing themselves and each other to say something nice about a dead politician.

I think most decent people realize that life is complicated, people are complicated, being President of the United States must involve making compromises of which most of us will never really understand, and to just write someone off as a piece of shit because they weren't some messianic figure is pretty ridiculous.

A true piece of shit currently inhabits the White House. Bush 41 wasn't in the same universe

RIP Mr. President. I was only one year old when you got in office and 5 when you left but you're definitely in the top 3 presidents of my lifetime. Maybe even #2.

He was the best Republican president in the last 50 years, but that's not really saying much.

He had his good side and his shitty side(all Republicans have baggage), but, considering the last two Republican presidents, he wasn't that bad. RIP

Ehh, threads like these are always complicated.

At death, the human desire to summarize someone's life is REALLY strong. The problem of course is when someone leave a complicated legacy. The desire to be respectful of them at death battles with the one that does not want their less savory actions to be glossed over and ignored.
