This could go back and forth between Apple and MS. However, its great news as MS doesnt have a huge mobile presence like the iPhone.

Congrats Microsoft, even though it probably won't last for too long.

I'm very curious and excited to see what they'll do in terms of next gen.

They were the most valuable a couple days ago too and fell again below Apple. This stuff fluctuates. But cool for now, there goes no nut November.

Until tomorrow when's it's Apple's turn. I wonder how long will it be until we have a clear cut #1.

Sorry to be a debby downer but many of us here in France are still with ADSL 8MB connections with Fiber being an option only towards 2021. I know the cloud can be used to power up games but there's nothing exciting about streaming games for me actually. (PS Now is unavailable in my household cause of our poor internet connection for example).
When I see that the investment is made in plenty of exclusive games and a decent pc solution for us to play them (scrap the Microsoft store), then I'll get excited.

It happened on Thursday if I'm not mistaken, and it's mostly because of Apple's shares falling relatively sharply, not really Microsoft gaining a lot of value.
Having said that, it's still an amazing achievement for them.
They are doing very good things lately, not the gaming division alone, but the entire company.

Apple's dominance in the phone segment is diminishing. iPhone sales have been going down and they have mainly been plugging the gap with higher asking prices. They have gone back to manufacturing iPhone 10 that had been discontinued which might be a sign that more and more people are not upgrading their phones or they are opting for other phones from Samsung, Huawei, One plus, Google, HTC all of which have quality to compete.

Their latest Macbooks have also not set the world of fire. Apple used to be so good when it came to innovating but the same cannot be sai for what they have been putting out past few years.

When Apple and Amazon were both worth $1T a couple months ago and MS "passes" them at .85T, I don't think Microsoft is the real story here.

Long term, I think Alphabet and Amazon are going to be the main competitors in the tech space because they have more services that can be monetized.

Who ever perfected self-driven car and space continental air travel will win it all.

So I will go with Google and Amazon.

Its weird to me that Microsoft isn't it's own country. I mean almost everyone has something windows related but apple does not own the phone market.

And if Microsoft holds this spot for another 31 days, it will be the first time since 2002 that it closed the year as the world's #1. (source)

Yup, Nadella is amazing.

I hope they make an acquisition big enough to make Obsidian and Ninja Theory seem like small potato gets in comparison.

With a whole E3 to themselves practically it would be the perfect time.

It's like that in the majority of the United States as well. That's why MS is also dedicated to hardware. Streaming will be viable for everyone eventually and by then they'll have it perfected. Streaming is very early still.

Stocks been fluctuating a lot. We heard this year of apple and amazon becoming trillion dollar worth companies and that went by fast. Microsoft is doing quite well and with Apple stopping to disclose sales numbers of iphones, ipads from now + reduction of shipment order of iphones leading to speculation of their declining sales has only led to its stock prices going down everyday.

I'll preface this by stating I basically live in MS products. MS under its current leadership has done a great job of shedding the Harvard Business School battle royale bullshit mentalitilty that made everyone hate them. I just hope their change in mindset translates into non-shit interfaces for their consumer facing products (specifically Xbox and tablets) sooner rather than later.

Cool. Makes sense. Azure products are dominating financial and health industries. Things like InTune and Azure AD are massive, you no longer need physical servers for basic things like DC/AD servers, or super costly mobile management or DLP (digital loss protection) services. Biggest thing is they play really nice with Windows 10, unlike AWS, Google, or iLand options which require almost as much support as VMs and hosts.

MS is also killing it with Teams, PowerBI, and SharePoint. I was at the Ignite event a few months ago and Office/Windows were literally mentioned once. Big new world for them. And I'm not a fanboy, I sell and manage just as many AWS projects as MS, but the tides are turning.

Seeing Windows below Xbox was a revelation for alot of people aswell.

I often see people saying things like "what will happen when investors stop wanting Xbox around".

When the Xbox division is making more money than it ever has and is poised moving forward into next gen being an even bigger revenue stream. Theres a reason Nadella let Phil and Crew go on this spending spree for new studios

Collecting all that user data from Windows 10 was a genius move...it will pay off like it did for Google in the long run for their AI.

Thank fuck I don't need to deal with Consumer Windows 10. LTSC release is so much better.

I mean, you can even go back to 2012 when they first truly changed their logo and the four divisions they chose to rep in the logo were Office, Windows, Xbox, and Bing/Web Services. At the time, I remember people thinking "what about Windows Phone" and we know where that ended up.

The company knew 6 years ago at least that Xbox was something worth adding to the core of the company.
